Not much going on here in Northeast Tennessee. Been another rainy day and more is expected later.
There are even flash flood warnings out for some counties. SPOT, sorry you hare having to work so hard. We will save you a "doggie bag" :). Maybe be can have Asa bring it over to you since he ate all the beef tips. Romeena, pics of my kids will be mailed tomorrow. Fun Girl, I went to Mt. Airy several years back for Mayberry Days. It was a bit of a disappointment but overall a good time was had by all. We ate a pork chop sandwhich at Snappy Lunch, it was pretty messy to look at and to eat, but down right tasty. I would love to go back sometime. It is only about 3 hours away from here. I will be back on the porch for prayer time so save me a rocker. Take care Big Maude

Hey Porch_ I went to the Mayberry Days Festival-40th Anniversary of TAGS- and it was everything I hoped it would be. The flower show , parade, outdoor country music and comedy-even a Minnie Pearl impersonator, tour of the sherff's office, the local people were great, shopping in downtown stores, Bluebird Diner and the Snappy Lunch, trip over to Floyd's Barber Shop, while sitting in a bench along the parade route we struck up a great conversation with a lady and her husband who grew up with Andy Griffith. Her father owned the furniture factory that Andy Griffith's father worked in : she had some very interesting stories to tell about the old days- there was so much more of just nice easygoing things to be part of that I could keep going on and on. It wasn't splashy like Las Vegas, Seaworld and Epcot , a cruise ship etc. but I had a better time in Mt Airy. I might even like to live there some day. What it did was make me remember what a small or relatively small town with a nice downtown and town spirit is all about. It realigned my perspectove on life to some extent.

Hey Porch -I just went back to read the Archives-The tour of the sheriffi's office was a recreation of the Mayberry jail and it was at the Mt Airy town hall, the sheriff's deck had a candlestick phone a thermos a coffee cup and some other things . It was the "old" Mt Airy jail and office. I hopped over sat behind the desk and had my picture snapped by the wife/ Maybe they don't open this up anymore because someone trespassed over the railing and sat at Sheriff's Taylor's desk.

Evenin' Porch,
Stay dry, Spot. Its nasty here tonight, again. At least all of this rain may help the pollen! Mr. Lucy is suffering with his allergies this year.
When is Mayberry Days this year? That would be neat to meet everyone! Congrats Marty on sittin' in "the chair".
Mavis, honey, it will be okay. Look for any positive in the situation you can find and go with that.
Breakfast is pancakes, sausage, hashbrowns, grits, eggs, and juice on me! Y'all start travelling to Atlanta, but look out for the storms. Don't drop your dogs off in a field tonight! Goodnight All
Blessings to you and yours,

Thank you all for prayers for Sean and for a safe trip. All went well and the dr gave me instructions on how to begin to wean Sean off of the Paxil. The poor kid has gained 30 lbs in a year because of the stuff so we are going to see if he can do with out it. As soon as school is out we are to beging decreasing his dose by 5mg every 2 weeks. The doc said to wait until school is out because he might feel sick when coming off of the medicine. I have been praying for the chance to get him off the medicine so I am thankful to get the "go ahead".
Prayers for your mom and your family during this trial, Dixie.

Morning, eveybody, just having my morning cup of acid-reduced coffee and sittin' on the porch.
Homemaker I wanted to tell you that I think it is such a good thing that you are in your school making a difference for kids like the one you described earlier. They are blessed to have you there as a role model and as one who cares and prays. May God give you favor with those students and those you work with and may your light shine brightly. In a place where folks don't read the gospel, one needs to be a living gospel for others to read. God bless your ministy there among the children that He loves so much.
Thanks for the prayers for Sean. He is doing so much better than a year ago.
There are some folks around here who could use some cheering up. We should plan something fun for tonight...hmmm....(anywhere but the Gigolo club where Asa works!)....maybe a get-together at the Taylor's house, with singing and guitar playing. We could invite the Darlins and "dance till our stockings are hot and ravelin'", isn't that how Mr Darlin put it? The menu could include Aunt Bee's fried chicken, potato salad, and whatever ya'll want to bring. Who's bringing the squeezins? heehee Maybe we had better forget the squeezins if Asa and Homaker come. You never know what they are going to do.
Asa I though about you yesterday when I was driving home from Houston. We were driving along a long stretch of nothing but brown grass sprinkled with a few old mesquite trees and it was about 90 degrees (all that was missing was the tumbleweeds and cowboys) and my dad says from the backseat, "Ya got any Christmas music you can play?". I laughed, "Haha......(silence from the backseat) oh, you were serious?". Dad replied, "Sure I'm serious. I like to listen to Christmas music on all my trips.". "OK, I'll see if I have any, Dad.". Sure enough I did, so there we were traveling down the hot, dusty highway listening to "Let It Snow". It was a strange, kind of surreal moment (or should I say just plain weird).
Well, time to get on with the day! Talk to ya'll later,
Boo

Big Maude & Marty-Sorry, I don't think I've stopped to say Howdy to ya folks yet. Good to see ya and glad to meet ya, Howdy.
Rev-I need to come clean about something. It's NHL play-off time around here the Sabres are playing the Flyers and that brings back some memories for me. When I was teenager back in the '70's the Sabres played the Flyers for the Cup. Well, to make a short story even longer The Sabres had a line called the French Connection (Gil Perreault,Rene Robert, and Rick Martin). I purchased a T-shirt that said "Jesus Saves!" on the front but on the back in small letters up in the corner it also said ".... And Robert scores on rebound!" Just how blasphemous is something like that. My parents thought it was quite blasphemous and made me toss it. My Mom brought the subject up this weekend while we were chatting about the "old days." She still thinks it's horrible but I can see the humor in it.
see ya folks in a bit,

Hello to auh2o. Spot-used to be a fan mostly when Petty, Pearson and Allison were on top. We used to go to Pocono in the mid 90's - Then as things changed into the 90's I went back to my first interest-sports car road racing - the days when Ford and the GT 40's raced against the Ferraris at Lemans and Sebring come to mind although I was too young at that time to have a driver's liscense. In the mid 90's I got an RX7 with a roll cage and all the good stuff and did some amateur road racing. Now, my hobby? seems to be home remodeling and maintenance, and Tags and my relatives.

Afternoon, all. Boo, I'm glad things went well with Sean. I know that's going to be good, getting him off that Paxil. Tell your dad he's not the only one who enjoys Christmas music at odd times of the year. I do, also.
I just got home from a shift up at the church, helping in the concession area for our Upward Basketball program. We have a full gym, and have started a basketball program for area kids on Saturdays. For some, it's the first time they've been within a hundred yards of a church. Actually, the Upward program is not original with us, we have guidelines from a national organization, but it's up to us to make it succeed. So far, the kids seem to enjoy it, and we've made contact with a few parents.
Tonight I'm going out to the Eisemann Music Hall, to hear the Vocal Majority sing. A good friend is a member of the group, and I'm going out there with his wife to hear them. They're marvelous - have won many national and international competitions, have CDs out, etc. When 150 male voices are singing, and you can clearly understand every syllable, you know they're doing something right.
Little Bentley is still here, still trying to get a reluctant Sugarplum to play, but she won't, the little grump. Sometimes she acts like she wants to, but then stops as though she feels it's beneath her dignity. The Princess, you know. His mom and dad will pick him up tomorrow evening, and I guess she'll be satisfied then.
Well, gotta run. Been out in the yard, had to clean the pre-filter in the pond again. With the heat and sun, the algae bloom is terrible, and the filter is clogging almost daily. Don't know what I'm going to do about that when I go to Florida at the end of June. It's not easy to find someone who is willing to come over and pull a scummy filter out of a pond, wash out the pads and reassemble the thing, then do the necessary things to back-prime it and get it running again. It's really not hard, just messy. Also necessary, because the algae has to be removed or it consumes all the oxygen and the fish will die. Sometimes I question the wisdom of building that pond!
Have a great afternoon, everyone. Sugarplum says 10-4! --Romeena

Ro, we have Upward basketball in our area but Sean was never interested. Sounds like a good program.
Been tired today. Folks, I really need to find the discipline to take better care of myself. I just know that I can't go on this way forever. Too much stress and I have started getting lazy about my eating habits and don't excersize. I seriously need to make a change for my family's and my own sake. I am the one who kind of takes care of everybody else and I am afraid if I don't make a serious change I won't be around to do it. I am carrying way too much weight now and my cholesterol is high, now my blood sugar is beginning to get high. I know the right things to do but lack the energy to do them. Please pray for me that I will have what it takes to make a change. Thanks.
Better go, Sean is calling me for something. I'll check back in later.

Hello Ro, Boo, Marty, Spot, HM, Maude, auh2o, Tom and all the porch family. Good to see you all tonight rocking on the porch.
Ro...got your email and I have some pics on the way for the TAGS photo page.
auh2o...I personally don't see the harm in the shirt. Now I will admit, I don't know anything about the NHL or the group of guys you spoke of or if it was intended to be a Christain "put-down." Of course if it was in that context I would be against it. But we use to sell t-shirts at our concerts that had overtones of products such as coke, John Deere, etc.. I remember the coke t-shirt had a symbol of the coke logo but it had "JESUS - The real Thing" printed on it. I guess some folks would think those are not a "good" witness too. But again, I don't have a problem with it. You know auh2o, God truly knows our heart and intentions.
Boo...It's great that you care for others and take care of them...but remember that you too are God's child and He desires for us to take care of this temple (body) that He has given us. My prayers are with you to take control (with His help) of your lifestyle and health.

Spot, i decided not to work at the race tonight, a lot of traffic etc. But a good one going!
BOO- I know I've said it before, but it is worth saying again, and KY girl will back me up if she ever returns (ha), as she is stressed too; but about the best natural combination you can tske is
fish oil capsules-(costco) to help lower cholesterol,
Oregamax ( and all others mentioned at hi health)which is wild oregano capsules- for building up the immune system,
and
garlic, good for many things, reduces free radicals etc that can bring on a host of problems.
Add some coral calcium and it will boost your energy level. All very biblical too! Just in capsule form. I hope you can put them into your budget, as, in the long run, it will help you and all in your care. Glad you can wean Sean from the paxil. My prayers continue for you and yours.
All this Mayberry days talk got me to thinking.
Was the row of houses used as Andy's neighborhood on the show, part of that backlot that was razed in late 70's? Ashame if so, as they could have been moved somewhere.
RO- did ya see Elanore Polsice there? ha
Maybe you could hire a pool man to care for the pond when you are gone.
TOm- good words of wisdom once again, thanks.
Well, have a good sabbath tomorrow!

Good suggestion, MDC, though I hope it doesn't come to that. It would cost a small fortune, and there's really not that much to do. A 12 year old boy could do it, if I knew one, which I don't. At least not one in the neighborhood. I just added a picture of the pond, taken today, to the online album. You can see it's really not something that should require any serious maintenance.

I have just ordered the six season pack and realize there are two seasons missing. Do you have an indication the two remaining seasons will be issued or will they not be issued because of the reported problems during those last two seasons? It sure sounds like my kind of research! haha Have fun.
Boo- just could feel your pain about the stress etc. Sure hope you can get some kind of program going. Besides what i mentioned above, I also start each day with a b-complex and a c viatmin!
All make for a goot immune boost, stress absorber and energizer.
And with my mom's situation plus other "stuff" and now my job situation, it keeps me strong in many ways, along with my daily "hitting the floor with a prayer!"
All my best to you on talking to those parents. I think I mentioned it, but we recently bowed out after about 20 years of helping with volunteer engaged couple counseling, and so many of today's young couples dont even know or follow the 10 commandments, so it makes it really hard to get them in tune with the Lord's approach to marriage etc. Anyway, somehow that was to fit in about the 11 year olds! haha
Well, a blessed sabbath afternoon to you all,

Thanks Guys, I feel your prayers. I did better this weekend. Unfortunately I injured my left foot the other day and will have to start off lightly on the walking until the swelling is gone but have been getting my fruits and veggies and watching how much I eat. I am starting to remember how good I felt when I took care of myself and remembering what a reward that was. It's good motivation because it is such a hard thing to have so many tasks and not enough energy to accomplish them.
I just found out today that I am assigned the 5 yr olds for Vacation Bible School this June! Scary! haha No, it's a great age. Last night I was putting Erin to bed and I was looking at her little face in the pale light coming through the window and I was so struck with the thought of how these little people are only little for such a short time and someday I won't have a little girl anymore. Well, I couldn't hold back the tears (I'm pre-menopausal, you know. haha) and Erin put her hand on my face and said, "It's ok mom, God will take care of you." I thought that was so sweet. Kids are great.
Well, time to go see what everyone is up to!

To be safe, the Dr had us do the blood test as well...which was also positive. So, 7 (yes...7) positive tests later, we're feeling like there's a good chance she's expecting. :-)
Have to travel to Denver this week, will check in whenever possible. Ya'll be good!

Of course I never could rightly say seeing as whenever I got a cold I slatered on the VICKS and also took a good hit off that jug of Mulberry Squeezins that BDJ kept on my front porch.
I do know its good for what ails you.

Evenin' Y'all!
Sorry I haven't been checking in so much. We nearly have our house put back together. Hubby will put up pictures tomorrow, just in time for my in-laws to come (for the first time in 6 years!) tomorrow night.
Boo- Out of curiosity, what is your blood type? I may be able to help you more. Of course eat 7-9 servings of fruits & veggies, raw as much as possible. You can do it!
Fun girl- One time I found some vicks that I thought would lose power since it had expired so I doubled the amount. Boy was I wrong! It intensified. Suffice it to say, my husband sent me to the couch that night!
MDC- How's the job hunt goin'?
Buckeye- You take it easy, ya here?
Mavis- How are you today?
Goober- Safe travelling! Check the weather channel.
Big Maude- Dumplin's were great!
Spot- Are ya workin'?
Hey to everyone else!
Blessings to you and yours,

Ha! I can't believe we are still talking about the wonders of VICKS after all these years! (For you new-comers, VICKS has been a popular topic of discussion around here for a long time. We even had a Vicks poet around here not long ago).
Lucy, my blood type is A neg. I have the classic apple shape that is common in diabetics but am not officially diabetic. I take Glucophage for a condition call Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which causes hyper-insulin. I have high cholesterol but and have been on Lipitor and Zetia for about 5 years. Is that enough info?!! haha I'm always open to good advice and actually know alot about nutrition and natural healing. I was a vegetarian at one point then added chicken. I didn't touch red meat for years. After I married, I started cooking to please my husband and the rest is history. Its hard to get him to eat anything good for him except green beans. It drives me crazy!
Well, time for bed. Goodnight to All,

And from side effects is clear.

Good morning, everyone! Tina, I won't offer any answers to your questions, I think that's been covered, but I'd like to welcome you to the porch. You don't even have to look around for a TAGS name - you've got one! You can be Tina Andrews - Barney's old flame who became a movie star. I don't know if you planned to stay or not, but we'd love for you to do so. You'll like it here.
Congratulations, Goober! Please tell Mrs. Goober how very happy I am for both of you.
Had a great afternoon at the iris gardens yesterday. Blooms weren't too showy - weather had beaten them down - but I was with two good friends, and that's enough. Three years ago, when I decided to do something with my bare-nekkid back yard, my neighbor recommended his brother, who is a landscaper. I'm glad I called Joe, because he's very talented, and just the nicest person in the world. I've enjoyed the association very much, have become friends with his wife, they come to dinner now and then, and it has been much more than a working relationship, we've become good friends. The three of us went to Argyle (a tiny town northwest of Dallas), had lunch at the Cowboy Cafe (wonderful hamburger and fries) and went to the iris gardens. Ordered a few iris (irises?) as well.
Well, haven't been up long, the Plum is convinced she's starving, and I need my insulin. You all be good. I've got to work tonight and tomorrow night, so won't be around much until Wednesday, probably. Be good, and act like somebody, you hear? Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

I checked with the Plum, and got the menu. We're having carrot salad, carrot soup, baked carrots, sauteed carrots, boiled carrots, grilled carrots and for dessert, carrot cake with carrot icing. Hope everyone likes carrots. Also, she was wondering if anyone knows how to make carrot squeezin's. If you do, don't tell her. That's all I need around here, is her spinning around on the piano bench, tipsy on carrot squeezin's.
Well, so much for getting some bats to roost around here. I wanted some, to control mosquitoes, so put up a very nice bat house. It's on top of a 20 ft pole, has three chambers, supposed to be a perfect nursery house. Well, would you believe a family of sparrows has nested in it? Since it has no floor, just flat vertical panels to create the chambers, it had to be some feat of engineering for those birds to nest, but they did it. Big old messy streamers of grass and straw and string hanging out of my bat house, and two very smug-looking sparrows perched on top! Humph!! Little squatters.
Well, I'm off to lunch with a friend, and to find a new iced tea maker. My old one broke (snif!) and I have to get another. I love those things! So convenient, just pop in the tea bags, fill the reservoir with water and turn it on. In about five minutes, you have a gallon of fresh-brewed iced tea. It's a must-have around my house.

Hey to everyone. Hope your day is sailing.
PAPPABEAR: This past weekend we drove to Delaware to visit my Mrs.' sister's family. We had a good time. They don't allow their kids to watch tv, but we found out that they have gotten most of the TAGS DVDs and been really enjoying them. For the kids, it's their first exposure and they think that they are hysterical. They also shared their good news with us: they are expecting their 10th child in October! Yes, you heard me correctly. Their oldest is 22, their youngest (as of now) is 1. As you probably guessed, they are religiously very conservative (for lack of a better word). The news had a mixed reception. My wife and her mom are very concerned for my sister-in-law's health. Having that many kids really pushes your body.
Oh, well. Gotta earn that paycheck.

Hi, thanks for the prayers for Sean. You folks have such sweet hearts. I wish I could give you a big hug!
Ro, when I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Houston, I noticed that around their subdivision there were lots of flowering shrubs with pink blossoms. Aunt Rena said they were wild roses and that they are very easy to care for and don't need to be sprayed for bugs and they bloom all year. Ever heard of those? I am seriously considering planting some when it comes time to landscape. In one yard a saw a flowerbed with river rock around it and it contained the wild rose bushes and three young pine trees. It looked beautiful.
Hey Me-They, I am familiar with the philosophy of some of the more conservative religious (I'll use your words since I don't know what to call such folks) and I really admire them. They have the right heart and desire to change the world for Christ by raising up Godly children who will make a difference. If I had married earlier I would have tried to have more children but I am very thankful for the two. As far as the concern your wife has about your sis-in-law's health, there are some added risks, post partum bleeding for instance but chances are she will be just fine. Alot of problems associated with many births come later with bladder problems and so on and may require surgery. It is hard on the body, though to have so many if they are close together, especially. It takes alot out of a person! I don't think anyone should be having a baby a year.
Well, tonight is TV night. Wife Swap and Super Nanny are coming on. I am probably going to try to watch Shalom in The Home, I have not watched it yet. Ya'll have a good one!

Boo,could an emergency C-section (No,I AIN'T pregnant!) cause someone to have repeated UTIs and bladder trouble, such as spasms? My daughter never had any problems such as these until after she had Laci.I have a feeling it's connected. She's getting set up to see a urologist, but since you said what you did in your post,I thought I'd ask you about it anyway.
Another medical quesstion-I came home from work early because I felt lightheaded and just blah feeling (No,I ain't pregnant!) and I think it's due to fluid behing my eardrum. My ear doesn't hurt,so do I have to take antibiotics to clear it up? Or will a decongestant alone do the trick? It's been bothering me off & on for a few weeks now. Anybody? Boo? Ro? Doctor Asa? Ha!
