Busy time here on the porch over the last couple days. Prayers for Mavis, Boo & Sean, and all the rest of my porch friends.
Your Laci story brought a tear to my eye, possum. Such a sweet memory for you to have.
So sorry to hear the news about Anthony Burger. Sure enjoyed his contributions to the Homecoming events. (Rev - I remember the Trio as Burger, Talley and Parker also. Didn't Shane Dunlap used to be with N'Harmony?)
Asa - did you get yourself some Baked Alaska at that there club meeting? ; )
Well, the wait is over to find out what we're expecting and I believe we'll name the baby Ellen Brown, since it definitely ain't a boy! ; ) Baby is growing just fine - right on target, development wise. We had a boy name picked out (Isaac Quinn) but now have to decide on a first name for a girl (baby will still have middle name of Quinn - my great grandmothers maiden name).
Well, it's been a busy last couple of days, so I better hit the sack.
Night all!

Morning porch. It's Friday! Whoopee!
Kinda tired this morning. My head didn't hit the pillow till 10:30 last night. Boy these late hours are gonna do me in. I guess thats what happens when you join a club all the way over in the STATE CAPITAL! And yes MDC, we score good in golf up there, real good. How'd you know about the Baked Alaska AFD? You ain't related to Roger Moore are you? Old Rog is one of ours.
Congrats on the Daughter AFD. Does hubby know she's a she?
That was a neat story Possum about your Laci. Sure makes ya wonder huh?
Mavis, seeings how you have the weekend off, and seeings how it's been a while, suppose I could get a trim on Saturday? Yer a doll!
Well think I'll go to work early. The special at the diner is the businessmans special. It's a hollered out tomamto and it's goo-od. Top it off with a lemon phosphate. Then go over and watch them chanmge the marquee at the theater. Boy I love Fridays.

AFD: That's great that everything is fine with the baby. Looks like it'll be a race to see whose little girl will be the next citizen of Mayberry. We're still wrangling with names ourselves.
ASA: I was going to ask which club you were joining, but I ain't one to pry.
It's so comforting to associate with such a wonderful, caring group of people as you all. Sometimes I feel like going online is kind of like having to walk through a sewer to get to the other side of the road. Then I stop by the Porch and am reminded that His light can shine through any kind of darkness. Thanks!

I am afraid that when I switched laptops all my email addresses got erased so I no longer have your email address. Mine is critter33@awesomenet.net. You could send the pictures to Sean when you get the chance. Thanks!
You have all been so sweet and understanding with your words, prayers and ideas concerning Sean. God bless you for that. It means so much to me because, the truth is I usually keep all my concerns and struggles to myself and don't often share them with my family and friends (except for you guys). Erin is the only girl in the family. We were pretty excited about it. She is also the last grandchild that will be born into the family until great-grand children come along. Erin's middle name is Elizabeth (its mine, too, and is a family name). It means concecrated to God. I think it would sound real nice with Quinn....Elizabeth Quinn...maybe. 'Mornin' all! It's going to be a nice day here in the Dallas area. Cloudy, but in the 50's, and warming up to the 80's next week. Yippee! I get to go out and play in the dirt. I love a day like this, when I don't have to go to work.
Asa, just what club is it that you're a member of, up in the capital? (I figured I'd better ask him before he busted something.)
AFD, I think you should name the baby Andelina. Andelina Quinn. Kinda has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
The "pitting prunes" quote comes from the ep where the Darlings bring Andelina in and try to get her engaged to Opie. Barney and Andy are sitting in the courthouse, and Barney is telling about when some hopeful father was trying to get Barney to marry his daughter. Offered him an interest in a prune-pitting company, but Barney described the girl as "Beasto-Mareasto" and wasn't interested. He said the old man finally sent the girl off to a charm school to try to improve things. Andy asked if she turned out to be beautiful, and Barney said no, she was still ugly, single and pittin' prunes!
My pair of red-bellied woodpeckers just came in, poking around on the tree outside my window, looking for bugs. Guess I'll go put a few mealworms in the feeder. Believe me, they'll find them! They are so pretty, with their red crowns and blushing bellies, and their black and white bars on their backs. When the male is courting the female, she just perches on the tree and he scouts up the bugs and brings them to her and feeds her. Kinda like my dear husband used to peel oranges for me, bless him.
Well, gotta get dressed, feed the Plum and put out critter feed. There are about fifty pigeons perched on the wires out back, waiting, and one silly squirrel swinging on the bungee, eating corn. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

ROMEENA: Are you near Dallas? I had relatives that lived in Plano and, up until they moved to Arkansas a few years ago, I used to go visit them every summer. It's a very nice place, but a little too flat for me. It's kinda funny, when I first started going down there, I would get real uneasy when I went places. For a long time I couldn't figure out why. I later figured out it was the flatness--I am used to hills and am not used to being able to see for such distances. It makes you feel kinda out-in-the-open-with-no-clothes-on, if you know what I mean. One time a storm rolled in and completely freaked me out. You could actually see the beginning and end of the storm in the sky. Here, by the time you see the clouds, you are minutes from feeling the rain. Funny how you get used to things.
I don't know about AFD, but "Hogette" ain't gonna make our short list. I would suggest a name, but people in glass houses and all.

Yep, M-T, I'm in Irving, just across the Trinity from Dallas. I'm such a homebody, though, that weeks go by and I don't even get near Dallas. I know what you mean about getting used to local conditions, and feeling strange when things are different. I love hills and valleys - they're so beautiful, but do feel a bit hemmed-in there. I'm used to the wide-open spaces of Texas, and feel much more free when I can see for miles. Funny you should mention storms, because that's one thing I love about the openness. You can stand and watch a tremendous storm from beginning to end, and might never feel a drop of rain yourself. I think that's one thing I liked about Mongolia when I was there. It looks a lot like parts of Texas. Gently rolling hills, too flat to really obscure one's view, and huge, huge sky.
Well, gotta run. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Any newcomer that would hire a New York PR firm to try to improve his image with Texans is an idiot. It didn't work, of course. Also, I quickly lost my loyalty to the team, because the team went waaaay downhill in their conduct after Landry left. What you said is so true, Ro. When you are used to wide, open spaces your whole life you start to feel kind of claustrophobic in the mountains after a while. I adore the mountains, though. When you are up in the mountains you feel like you are in the wide open sometimes. I remember being at Estes Park Colorado and being so high up above the timberline that there was no sound, no birds, nothing but still quiet. It was amazing! Kind of like the sea, the mountains are pure magic.

Hey Mavis, got those pictures of Feather. Boy, is he cute! I'll show them to Sean tomorrow, thanks. We had the neighbor's little rat terrier puppy get into our yard today by slipping under the fence. He was barely bigger than a tea cup, wish you could have seen him. What a cute little critter. The kids went crazy and what is funny is when we returned him to his mother she just fussed at him. You could tell she was scolding him for crawling under the fence and wandering off. Dogs are so amazing. My 2 have started playing chase with each other just like kids do. Its hilarious to watch them. Jingles will hide behind the shed and wait for Leah to find him and when she does, he takes off with her chasing him. They do this over and over. It amazes me that they are so smart that they can make up games to play with each other just like children. That Jingles is one smart dog. I have to trick him to get him to do things because he learns so quickly and has kind of a mind of his own!
Well, saw The Pink Panther and it was pretty silly. I laughed at a few things but most of it wasn't really my kind of humor. My advice is wait until it comes out on DVD if you see it.
I want to see Michael W. Smith's new movie Second Chances. Its supposed to be out now, I think.

Rain! RAIN! RAAAIN!! We finally got some rain here in north central Texas! Did we ever, and it's still coming down. I went out to my son's house this afternoon, and when I started home tonight, it was pouring. Driving home was a nightmare. Could barely see the front end of the car, let alone the road. I finally just tucked in behind a big old truck and hung in there. I figured he was big enough to shove aside anything that was in the way, so I let him just clear the path. Fortunately, he was going the same way I was, so I followed him almost all the way home. Fred Goss, if that was you in that big rig, thank you! I made it just fine. At least Barney wasn't out giving tickets. Good thing, he'd have been washed away.
Folks, I'm having some problems with the photo album site, it won't let me upload anything new right now. I'm in email contact with the provider, and we're working on it. Just a glitch somewhere, I'm sure it'll be fixed soon. Please keep sending pictures, and I'll get them posted as soon as I can.
Mavis, the Plum says she'd love to have Feather pull her refreshment wagon. Feather is much stronger, I'm sure, and the Plum will enjoy just riding and serving everyone's sodas, cookies and moon pies. Can someone please make Feather a mascot suit like the Plum's? I think they'll make a cute team, sturdy Feather and fluffy Plum.

Chuck yes, he is a St. Bernard (P. Fife) & let me tell you, he eats ALOT, he's got Spot and Asa beat hands down. My sister & I sponser him by buying his food, he eats 40# every 2 weeks! I don't mind tho, he does such a service to the community. Ro I figured Plum would like that part about riding along with Feather, whoever decides to make Feather's uniform, remember, her & the Plum are both white, so pick something that shows off thier good side. Rev I agree about Tony Stewart, from what I understand, he stays in trouble with Joe all the time, just wish he would start listening to him. I'm off to bed.

Morning Buckeye. I don't remember the cushman, but you jog my memory on something else. When I was 18 I bought a brand new motercycle. It was a Honda 175 on/off road bike. I had just left the dealership after buying it and was pulling up to a red light. In the lane next to me was a carload of girls, so naturally I wanted to be impressive. They are all watching me as I pull up next to them and as I stop I go to stick out my leg so I don't tip over. Problem is my pants cuff got caught on a foot rest and I couldn't gey my leg out, and so over I went. BOOM! The girls in the car are laughing like mad. I'm so devastated I can't hardly stand it. My brother inlaw was in his car right behind me as he was the one who took me up to get the bike. He was crying from laughing so hard. He said I looked just like that guy on Laugh In who would ride his trike to a stop and fall over. Boy, glad at least I had a helmet on, not that I hit my head but to hide my face.
Mavis, I read Joe Gibbs book years ago and am very impressed with the man. It sounds like he is still faithful. Success can sometimes change folks. Glad to see he is still humble.
Who wants to give me a gift of Saturday? Any takers? I have a list as long as my arm of honey do's.
They say we will be in the 60's today. Ain't seen that since October. That just might melt the rest of the snow.(big smile)
Good to see you back YMK. How's your ocean looking?
Boo, what breed is Jingles again? My Barney loves to play hide and seek with me. I have to be the hider though. I throw his rubber hamburger and then duck in a closet or somewhere and he goes running all over the place trying to find me. He loves it.
Well best get started on this list. You all have a good one. And act like you got some smarts.

Oh Man, I just wrote a long post and hit a wrong button and lost it! Arrrg!
ASA, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That story was hilarious! Thanks for sharing! Maybe we should all share a funny, embarrassing moment....I'll have to think on it.
Mavis, this morning I discovered a tiny white, furry puppy crying in my garage. I am some kind of puppy magnet! Found out it belongs to a neighbor who isn't taking care of it. She is a young girl whose dad buys her dogs and then she doesn't take care of them. My Lab Leah used to belong to her but she didn't feed her so now she is our dog. I cannot take another dog! The girl's uncle is the local dog catcher so I know he won't pick it up. I am so frustrated by the people around her who are too irrespondible to take care of their pets. I can't wait to get out of here and onto my 5 acres with a big fence around it. The other day Jingles dug under the fence and got out and the girl's brother kicked him in the head. Bruce saw it and had a strong conversation with the guy. Bruce is outside right now digging all around the bottom of the fence to put in chicken wire to keep Jingles from digging out!
Asa, to answer your question, Jingles is a terrier mix. He looks alot like a Jack Russell with wirey hair and is a blondis-red color. Ro has a picture of him on her photo site. Hey ASA, is Barney still obsessed with that rubber hamburger?

'Morning, everybody! Having emboldened the whole porch myself a few times, I've learned a trick that helps. I confess I don't always do it, but it's still a good idea. Whenever you've used a bold entry, just for safety's sake, at the end of your post, add another unbold command, just for good measure. That way, if you forgot one up above somewhere, the one on the end will cover it. Your whole post will be bold, but it won't spread to the rest of the porch. If you didn't forget, an extra unbold command won't hurt anything. Just a thought...
We have had some serious rain, and it looks like there will be more today. So glad, we really needed it. I hope everyone who needs it is getting their share.

Asa - can't believe you never heard of cushmans. . .my neighbor owns three I think and my brother a couple as well. They go to big conventions of cushman folk. In fact, my first ride was on my brothers many years ago. He bought black snakeskin upholstery and my mom did the seats for him. Pretty cool in the 70's!
We ended basketball today. . .trophies for all were awarded.
Ya'll remember Star (my goat) - she is doing great and she is back in the pasture. Just wanted to say thanks for all the critter prayers.
WE have one goat left to kid for right now - we have had 32 babies, 27 survived (which is a really good rate). We are now (with babies included up to 60 goats). That makes me tired just thinking about all those goats. I have been taking baby pictures to put on my website. . .just gotta find to get r done!

Happy Saturday everyone! Thanks for all the congrats (and names) for the baby. Lots of good one's to add to my list. And who knows Me-They, we could have our little porchsters on the same day - that'd beat everything wouldn't it? ;)
Asa - hubby does know. He was running late so I had the tech tell me. Once he got there and the tech was finishing up all her measurements, he asked if we knew what the gender was. I tried to keep a straight face, but it didn't work and so he figured out I knew. He said if I knew then he wanted to know. I think he was a tad disappointed it wasn't a boy, but I think he'll enjoy getting another girl to bless.
Boo - my grandma's middle name is Elizabeth. I'd be her favorite granddaughter if I chose that name. (Actually I told my hubby I should name the baby Quinn Elizabeth - and I'd call her Queen Elizabeth).
Just wanted to wish Mary Wiggins a very happy birthday today. Hope it's a great one. Hail to thee, Miss Junior Mayberry. :)
I'm a 'Skins & Gibbs' fan, too.
Congrats on all your "kids", homemaker!
