'Morning, everyone! Boo, I knew I liked you from the beginning, and you just confirmed it. Thanks for taking Jingles in. A pup with his problems might have trouble finding a "forever home," so I'm really glad you've taken pity on him. I'm betting he'll repay you ten times over.
About Andy's trash cans, I seem to remember that Opie and the spoiled kid were sitting on trash cans when the kid was giving Opie instructions on how to get his way - tantrums and all that. They were in the space between the driveway and the side of the house. Am I remembering that scene correctly?
It's 62 degrees here, at 7:30 a.m., and expected to hit 80. Some winter weather! However, it can change in a moment, and probably will. January is typically our coldest month around here.
Well, off I go. I have a physical therapy appointment at 8, and then I just may go shopping for a new mattress and springs. My present bed is 35 years old, and may very well be the reason why I have so much pain in my back. Sure hate to spend all that money, but am getting pretty tired of walking crooked.
Have a great day, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Real fine sweep, Ro. Sorry to hear you're walkin' crooked, bless your heart! Hope you find a good deal on a bed. How much longer will you have to go to PT?
It's about 57° here at 10:30 am - weatherman says we may hit 70°. That'd be great!
Glad you all had a nice Christmas. And that Cracker Barrel sure was great (actually did eat there for breakfast yesterday - yum).
Our trash man cometh on Wednesday but we won't be too hard on him. Just a few bags and a big box that we tossed all the wrapping paper into.
Well, just a quick note to say "hey" to everyone.
Prayers for all!

December 27, 2005 - Msg 32391:
Well, I did it. I jumped off the deep end and bought one of those memory-foam beds. Not the brand name Tempur-Pedic, but the same thing, made by Sealy. I hit an after-Christmas sale at our local Weaver's department store (about to be a Macy's) and got it for half price, including delivery and set up and hauling the old one away. It was deliciously comfortable, and I really think it's going to make a difference. Also, I have until September to pay for it at no interest! Can't beat that.
It's in the low 80's here, got the a/c on, of all things. House was like an oven, very stuffy.
I've been listening to Andy's "The Christmas Guest" CD - someone else mentioned it earlier. It really is nice. I think my favorite is the story of the juggler, Barnaby. "It was a fine, fat mule, and on top of that fine, fat mule was a fine, fat monk." Sweet story, told in Andy's own inimitable style.
Everyone have a lovely evening. Sure is pretty here. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Yes, my parents have one of those beds, MDC and they like it. I am wondering about those Tempur-pedic beds you see on TV with the memory foam. I know they are really expensive but they make them seem like the answer to every woe when you see the commercial. Anyone have one?
Thanks Ro, I think Jingles is here to stay unless an owner claims him. He is skinny but the funny thing is he has well trimmed claws and is well-behaved. He is not neutered and I am thinking that he might have wandered off and gotten lost or something. Wish you could see him. When my sister comes over, she takes him into my parent's room and sits with him in the recliner. Jingles gets on her lap, immediately puts his head on her shoulder and goes to sleep every time! He's adorable and the kids are already in love with him. Boy, that's three dogs we have taken in the last year. My chocolate lab, Belle, that we found at the church as a pup now lives with my sister because we couldn't keep her from jumping the fence and wandering off but she has a great life at Susan's. Now we have the weinie dog (my parents have taken her over), our black lab named Leah that I rescued, and now Jingles. Its going to get expensive getting them all the flea and heartworm prevention. When we move, we will live the weinie dog here with my parents. I will only be taking Leah and Jingles with me. Speaking of....we closed on the house today!! Hoorah and finally! The buyer is a Navy commander in New York and has bought several houses in our area to lease. I guess he is retiring down here or something.
Hey AFD, how are you feeling lately? Did Christmas wear you to a frazzle. I know it did me and I'm not pregnant. Take care of yourself.
I think it was 80 degrees here today but the humidity is back so it doesn't feel as nice. We are enjoying it, though.
My little girl woke up today with spots on her. She had been feeling a bit under the weather on Christmas and had a runny nose. Now she has spots that were spreading during the day and now seem to be fading away. Weird. She has already had chicken pocks even after having the vaccine. Probably just a rash from a virus.
Hey, are we having a big New Year's Eve party this year? I could hire Bobby Fleet and His Band With A Beat. We could bring out the squeezins and "dance till our socks were hot and ravellin'". Lets do it at the Lodge...then we could go to Myer's lake and shoot off fireworks and do sparklers. What do ya say?

I'm sure you'll enjoy that new mattress, Ro, especially with it being half price! We have a memory foam topper on our mattress and it's really nice. It's a little tough for me to roll over in for some reason (hubby says he doesn't have this problem though) - maybe I should think about getting some satin sheets. ; ) It seems like it makes our bed feel a little warmer as well.
I love "The Christmas Guest" album as well. I have a number of Andy's CD's and never tire of listening to any of them. My 5 yo daughter loves them as much as I do.
Good to see you survived "The Family Visit", MDC. ; )

Did everyone get all their gifts returned yet? They say that the return lines aren't as bad this year. They must not be because I haven't heard my wife complaining about them.
Well everybody be blessed and see ya tomorrow. I'm heading to bed early tonight. Tired from the trip.

Heehee, that's funny Asa. You know, I tried to make meatballs for the first time on Christmas Eve...you know the kind you put in the crock pot and serve at parties? Well, mine were positively GROSS! I'll bet Hazel's are better.
REV, are you talking about Charleston, West Virginia or where? No, I didn't return my ONE gift. Not complaining because I got something I really like. My family is not big on gift giving but my husband bought me a beautiful silver cross from James Avery on a nice chain. It looks like silver nails. Did I already tell ya'll this? Sometimes I think my mind is slippin' these days.
Thanks, AFD, we are very happy about the house and can't wait to start on the new one. I am not looking forward to the process but it will be worth it. I heard once that a percentage of folks who build houses end up divorced by the time its built!
No SPOT, I don't think any of your kin folks attacked my daughter. She's fine now!
MDC, when I was helping my sister (Saint Susan) sort toys at the church for the toy drive, we received ALOT of donated Bratz dolls and I was shocked at them. I had never seen them before and couldn't believe what they looked like. I remember picking one up (it was dressed in a black leather mini skirt and platform boots--it was called Punk Brat), and I asked my sister, "What do I do with this Ho doll?". I told her we couldn't possibly give them out to the little girls. I think they did, though. It bugs me to think about it. I like my little girl to play with baby dolls. I did buy her a Cinderella Barbie this year, too, and she came with a handsome prince.
I'm off to bed. Have a nice night!

I LOL'd at the "ho" doll comment, too. I won't buy them especially because they're called "Bratz" - I don't want my Evie turning into a brat, so she doesn't need the unnecessary influence of that.
Another "trash" incident on TAGS was on "The Cow Thief", where Andy is putting out Aunt Bee's attic garbage on the curb in front of the house.
Prayers for those who are suffering through the fires in the OKC and Arlington TX areas. My grandparents used to live in Arlington, but thankfully now live down in Alvarado.

Good evening, all. AFD, so you have family in Alvarado? I go through there when I go to Fredericksburg to see my daughters. I always go down Hwy 67 to Hico, then 281 to Johnson City.
Boo, that's good news about the house. I know you all are ready to get into your own place. Everybody teased us when we built this house. My father was the builder, and the six of us were staying with him and my mom while the house was being built. It usually took him three or four months to complete a house like this one, but he finished it in two months! He said there was nothing like proper motivation to get a job done!
My landscaper friend and his helper were here today, got my back yard blown completely leaf-free, and a lot of dead stuff pruned off. Sure does look nice now. As for the pond, it's going to be hard to screen off. It's in two sections, bisected by a stone bridge. The smaller section is about 6x6 feet, with a 3-ft stone wall at one end that the water cascades out of, and the larger section is at least 6x8 feet, with an umbrella fountain in the middle of it. It's a bit big and irregularly shaped to try to cover it, but I'll think of something.
AFD, I have one of those memory foam toppers on my present bed, and like it a lot. Without it, my present bed would be impossible to sleep on. That influenced my decision to get the whole bed made of that stuff. I hope I like it, but I do have thirty days to decide, and can send it back if I don't like it.
Yep, I noticed the trash cans at the curb in today's episode, too. Guess that answers that question. By the way, did anybody else wonder how Opie managed to make those elephant tracks so deep, and why Luke and the cow were the only ones leaving tracks in that farmyard? Still, that cow-wearing-shoes scene is one of the funniest sight gags I've ever seen on TV. The way that cow is high-steppin' it, just cracks me up. And of course, the music just makes the whole scene. Too funny!!
Well, I'm supposed to go to work tonight, so had better get home and get ready. Hate to leave this comfortable old porch, though. Love this rocker!

That's some nice things you said there,Asa. Well said!
I saw the Narnia movie a couple weeks ago, MDC. I loved it! I didn't notice that the battle scenes were that drawn out though. I don't know how long it was, but I thought the whole movie flew by pretty fast. I was kind of sorry to see it end. Kai loved it as well. Although then afterward she wanted to keep going to McDonalds to get all the Narnia toys in the Happy Meals. :) She has two so far.
I don't mind though. I suppose there are worse things she could want. ...Speaking of Bratz dolls.;) I'm glad she hasn't wanted any of those things.

ASA, that was beautiful. I feel exactly the same way and I love every one of you. Thanks for saying what you did, too, Hazel. Too bad the whole world isn't like this porch.
RO, I can't email the picture because it wasn't taken with a digital camera but if you will send my your mailing address again I will mail you one. My new email is critter33@awesomenet.net
Your words are very kind, thank you. If you knew Jingles, you would know why he just CAN'T end up at the shelter. I have never been around another dog like him. You made me laugh with the "big-eyed bird" comment. I remember what that is like. I worked 11pm to 7am for ten years! I used to do my housework and grocery shopping in the middle of the night. I got kind of wierd from working all those nights. Bruce told me that when he first met me I lived like a vampire. My house was dark and the windows always covered and my eyes were extremely sensitive to bright light.
I'm sure glad you are a part of our porch family, too, Rev!
Pappa, why do you have to retire?? I will never be able to figure out who to vote for. I like them all!
Sterling, my little Erin got Aslan the Lion in a Happy Meal today and was very excited about it. She loved the movie, too. I can remember reading the book when I was in the 8th grade and just loving Aslan so much!
Went to a wedding tonight. Bruce's neice married a young man who is in the Navy here in Corpus Christi. Seems like a great guy. He was all dressed up in his sailor uniform and boy could he dance to the big band music. Well, its off to bed for me...I am more than pooped! Goodnight.
Your friend,
Boo
December 30, 2005 - Msg 32432:
Thanks, Boo. Address is on the way in an email.
It's almost a full-time job around here, keeping the Christmas lights coming on and going off at the appropriate times. I loaned power to the new neighbors last night, since they can't get theirs turned on until next Tuesday. The circuit they were using also runs my back yard lights, so it tripped. This morning, the power was out in the neighborhood for about half an hour, due to a blown transformer. Every time something like that happens, my timers get all wonky and have to be reset. With seven timers out there, and two of them requiring a ladder, this is no small project. Guess it won't be a problem much longer, though, as the lights will probably come down in the next week of so. I always hate that time. Things look so drab and plain without them.
Guess I'll hit that miserable bed. I'm not walking crooked right now, but I will be when I get up in the morning. I'll be glad when the new bed arrives.

Hazel, of course you're included in my post dear.
Looks like we have some fine candidates for Mayor who are throwing their hats in the ring. And I'd vote for a woman. In fact I nominate Hazel right now. So far we have Fred Goss, Spot and now Hazel as candidates. Anyone else? I know it'll be hard stepping into pappabears shoes but he leaves our fair city in fine shape.
I have one of them mattresses Ro. Love it, just love it! I get the misery in my back every now and again but not from that.
Boo, I'd sure like to see Jingles. He sounds like he has stolen your heart.
Anyone here know much about parakeets? My wife sorta inherited one and his and my relationship is off to a rocky start. He's just a mean thing. Always trying to bite me, hisses at me when I walk by his cage. I am a real lover of critters by nature, but I gotta tell you I could ring his scrawney little neck sometimes! JK, But he is not very nice. I was gonna name him Winkum but I'm leaning more towards calling him Ben Weaver cause that's just how he acts. Any ideas how I deal with the little monster?

Mornin' Y'all! Hey Rev,I know where Prosperity is! My mom is from Saluda, and we used to go through Prosperity when we'd go up to visit my grandparents.Small world!
Asa,ya didn't drip any Dippity Doo on that bird, did ya? Us critters get kinda ornery if our feathers or fur gets too slickery!Or maybe he got a look at your spectacular Pip plaque and he's just jealous of you cuz he don't have one!
So our candidates are Fred,Hazel and Spot? Gee,I wanna vote for all of 'em! That's gonna be tough.
Well, gotta toss some laundry in the dryer,so I'd better go for now. Y'all have a great last Friday of 2005!

Watched "three's a crowd" ep last night from season 2 and I always forget about the "other" girl of andy's-- Mary the blonde "perky' nurse, but i cant think of her real name. (Maybe i should watch the credits) Also, season 1 and 2 had the most singing i think. I love the singing, which also makes tags so unique.
Well, take care all.
