You're right, Romeena; it can be hard navigatin' the female world. But I agree with Andy, if you count women out, that thins the field a might for us men. (I definitely don't subscribe to the leg of lamb theory, though.)

HI ALL. CHRISTMAS PRAYER .
LONG,LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY,
ON THE FIRST CHRISTMAS NIGHT,
POORSHEPHERDS ON A DISTANT HILL
ALONE DID SEE THE LIGHT.
A HEAVENLY RADIANCE, SHINING ROUND
AN ANGEL CHOIR, THAT SANG
OF PEACE ON EARTH, GOODWILL TO MEN...
WITH HOPE, THEIR ANTHEM TANG,
AND AS THE SHEPHERDS KNELTIN AWE,
THEY HEARD AN ANGEL SAY,
GO AT ONCE TO THIS SMALL TOWN,
BEFORE THE BREAK OF DAY,
FOR THERE, IN HUMBLE STABLE BARE,
A BABY YOU SHALL FIND.
BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP HIM FOR HE
WAS BORN TO SAVE MANKIND.
AND WHEN THOSE SIMPLE MEN BEHELD
THE CHRIST CHILD NESTLED THERE,
THEY OFFERED UP TO GOD THEIR THANKS
IN THE FIRST CHRISTMAS PRAYER.
LIKE THOSE AROUND THE HOLY BABY
ON THAT FIRST CHRISTMAS MORN
IN REVERENCE DID KNEEL, LET US
GIVE THANKS THAT CHRIST WAS BORN.

December 14, 2005 - Msg 32201:
HAHAHAHA, what a cute story, MDC. Remember I am the one who told the story recently about giving my dying aunt some flowers in a discarded Kotex box when I was 5!
MINDY IS BACK (huge sigh of relief)! She wandered back late last night and I have no clue where she had been. I am keeping a very tight reign on her, though.
RO, the shelter I spoke of is a private one that runs on donations and tries its best to place animals. They will euthanize them if they are too sick or if they are pitbulls. They really do care and animal control around here is non-existant so I am very thankful the shelter is nearby. The puppy wasn't in the yard this morning but I saw him in a neighbor's yard so I will be watching to see how things go.
Last night when I went to pick up by 4 yr old from Grandma's she had been crying for 4 hours (Erin, not Grandma...hehe). She had been crying for me and did not stop crying all the way home and most of the night. I am exhausted today! She was so upset and kept complaining about her stomach hurting. She would fall asleep for about 10 minutes and then wake up crying. She is alot better today and made a huge toot in the shoe store so I am guessing she must have swallowed alot of air with all the crying and got a tummy ache from it. Anyway, I am pooped! Hope tonight is calm because I am going to bed early. Last night when Erin was crying, I remembered that I had bought her a stuffed Snoopy for Christmas that was in the back of the Suburban so I decided to give it to her early (might ease a tummy ache). I asked her if she knew who Snoopy was and she said in a very strained voice, "Who is he?". I gave her a quick explaination and told her he was in the car, "Go get him, I don't want him in the car by himself", she said. So, I put on my slippers and wandered out to the car to get Snoopy. When I gave him to her she grabbed him and then shoved him back at me, "I thought Snoogy (that's what she calls him) was a real puppy!" I said, "Oh look, Erin, Snoopy is sad and he wants you to hold him." She quickly whined, "You're faking. He can't talk!". It didn't take her long to warm up to him and today she has been carrying him everywhere she goes. You know, I am so tired I am rambling on in some kind of a daze!
I don't know about the rest of you but I am running around in circles I am so busy. The Christmas rush is upon me! I am hoping things will slow down next week and I can enjoy the season more.
Thanks for the lovely poem, TOM.
Well, better go see about the kids. Bye.

Very nice poem Tom, thanks for sharing such beautiful words of true wisdom.
Boo, me-they, I love the last line of the ep where Miss Peggy comes to help the two "helpless bachelors", Andy and Opie; and Peg had been upset, but was now coming in at the to help, and Opie says:
"Pa, here i didnt want to sing and you didnt want to play the guitar, but now we do. What made us change?" And Andy says, "because there's a woman in the house!"
Hang in there folks, just remember that "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts!"

Wow, Boo! Mindy is home, and I'm so glad. I still keep worrying about the little crippled pup, though, out there in the cold and dark all by himself. He needs a home! What kind of dog do you think he might be?
I awoke this morning to the sound of grinding gears out on the street. Seems a water main broke in front of the house across the street. The water was turned off about ten minutes later, right after I got my teeth brushed, but before I could get a shower. I was afraid to try, afraid it would go off and leave me all soapy. It's still off, there are four enormous trucks and a ditch witch out there, and I have to leave for work in a half hour. Guess I'll go showerless. Oh, well, at least it's not in the middle of the summer. Sure hope it's back on by morning, though. I'm sure those poor guys who are wet and freezing in the bottom of that ditch are hoping so, too.
Well, off I go. Sure would like to retire. Aren't you all tired of hearing me say that? (heehee)

from the unusual facts items- wedding traditions and superstetions continue to this day--- bridal veils, many superstisions still preveil, like it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, after the groom said i do. then the veil was lifted. since in the old days marrages were prearranged and sometimes the bride would switch as jacob in the bible thought he was marrying rachel but he married her sister leah. before the 5th century the index finger was the ring finger. later for some reason they believed the third finger veins were the love vein that led to the heart. the reason there is no groom magazines is because men wouldn't read them. the reason for brides maids was that some people thought evil spirits would try and interrupt the wedding so brides maids dressed alike to confuse the evil spirits. flowers and in ancient times herbs were scattered at weddings to ward off evil spirits. i know this is important why- i haven't a clue. pappa bear

EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DAILY DIARY:
Day 683 of My Captivity:
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed
hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the
rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to
keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of
escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomited on the
floor.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet.
I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly
demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made
condescending comments about what a ''good little hunter'' I am. The
audacity!!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was
placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However,
I could hear the noise and smell the food. I overheard that my
confinement was due to my power of "allergies." I must learn what this
means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this
again tomorrow-- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.
The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released--and he
seems more than willing to return! He is obviously retarded. The bird
has got to be an informant-- I observe him communicating with the guards
regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have
arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe--
for now. But I can wait.
It is only a matter of time
Ya'll be good...

Good morning, all! Floyd, that card is just beautiful. Thanks. I've bookmarked it on my desktop, and will be sharing it with family and friends during the holidays. Merry Christmas to you and to Mrs. Floyd and Adam, too.
Goober, I think that diary pretty much could have been written by anyone's cat. I don't have one, but some of my kids do, and they're so much like that. One in particular - he could have written that! As someone said - dogs have owners, cats have staff.
I'm having company for dinner tonight - the missionary I worked with in Mongolia, and his sweet wife. They're in the US for a few weeks, setting up next summer's groups, and cultivating financial support from stateside churches. They're both just so nice, and such fun to be with. They just radiate the joy of the Lord.
Last night I looked at my outdoor lights and decorations, and realized it's completely secular. I have three lighted angels, but they're old and their lights weren't working well this year, so I didn't use them. All I've got is a snowman, a moving deer and a whole bunch of lights. So, in my travels this afternoon, I'll be looking for something that at least says Merry Christmas. Maybe I'll start at a Christian bookstore - they might have some good stuff.

Floyd, I have dial-up and had no trouble getting the card, just took a minute to load and looked and sounded great. Thanks.
Whew! I have been more than busy. I stay so busy this time of year that I fail to enjoy the season. Every year I tell myself it will change next year...yada, yada, yada. I spent today helping my sister (Saint Susan) sort toys for the local toy give-away.
RO, the pup looks like some kind of pitbull mix. It has the facial features of a pitbull but is kind of shaggy and a brindle color. He belongs to a neighbor and has not been back but this is the same neighbor whose dog stayed in our yard because they didn't feed it so I am keeping a close eye on things. I think the pup may be staying in the house with them because I don't see him often. This is the same neighbor who had the pigs who tore up our yard and the goats who ate the neighbor's flowers. I can't wait to move from here.
Goober, that Cat/Dog thing was hilarious!..."My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects." Hahahaha!
Well, just wanted to check in and say, "Hey". Bye!

Possum...I'm in Newberry county. We didn't really get a lot of ice on the roads but a lot in trees, etc.. They had it really bad up around the Greenville area.
Spot...That's probably where you all sent crews to (Greenville/Up-State area). They lost power pretty much all over from what I understand. They are saying now that we may get some more Saturday night.
Everybody have a wonderful nights rest and don't forget to thank God for another GREAT day. Can't wait to serve HIM again tomorrow.
Be blessed

Well, so much for finding anything that suggests the reason for the season. Christian bookstores don't carry decorations, Lowe's told me on the phone that they had what I was looking for. When I got there, they had one 15-inch long cardboard thing that had a picture of a snowman and lettering that said "Merry Christmas." It was bent. Forget that.
So, I'm going to have a friend who makes lighted displays make me one for next year. I want a Christmas tree, outlined in green lights, with a gold star on top. Superimposed over that, I want a cross outlined in white lights, with "MERRY" in green letters on the horizontal piece, and "CHRISTMAS" in red letters on the vertical piece. The "R" in Christmas would remain red as it passes through the green "Merry." With the cross covering the tree, I believe that pretty much says it all.
Somehow I just can't imagine Andy wishing folks a Happy Winter Holiday, can you? Lord, what have we done?

Good morning, all. Pappa bear, if they can't figure out where Mamma Bear's red blood cells are going, then I would assume they've tested to see if she's still making some? Surely they have. All red blood cells have a limited lifespan, and then die, but we don't notice it because more are being made all the time. Obviously, if the new supply is inadequate, the levels are going to drop as the old ones die off. I hope they find the problem soon!
The missionary to Mongolia and his wife were here for dinner, and we just had a grand time. They're both delightful, so energetic and funny. Nothing dour or gloomy about them! They have a high appreciation of life and God's blessings, and are extremely good company. We had a wonderful evening, and hope to do it again.
Well, as much as I hate to do it, I've got to go out for a while. I've got tons of things to wrap, but need, of all things, boxes! Little flat gift boxes. I bought a lot of cashmere and silk items in Mongolia and China, and now I need little boxes to put them in for wrapping. Dollar store, here I come!
Have a great day tomorrow, everyone. The music at church should be wonderful, and the message as well. We are so blessed with our pastor. He's never "as dry as dust."

Hi all, and Merry Christmas.
Sorry I am not on here much. Geeze, it seems like I visited the porch more when I had to go use the library's computer. :)
Yesterday Kai and I took our weekly trip to visit her Grandparent's since Kai doesn't have school on Fridays. I thought it would be a nice idea if we got a Christmas present for Kai's best friend(from her old school in the town where we just moved from). So we got the gifts(Kai picked them out and picked out the wrapping paper), and later I called her friend's mom to see if it would be ok if we came out and dropped off the presents. She said sure, but her daughter was at her Grandma's right now and she was hoping maybe she'll be back at 3pm and do I want to call back at that time. I said fine and so a little bit after 3pm I called and got no answer. So I waited 10 minutes and called again and still didn't get an answer. Now it was getting near 3:30 and I knew we would be having to leave to go back home soon, so I just said to Kai that we will just go out there as her friend's mom was probably just going to pick her up and might be back when we get out there.
So we drive out to her house and no-one is home. I had forgotten to go to the bank so I figure we can go do that and then drive out one more time and see if they are back yet.
Well, when we got back they still weren't there and I said to Kai that we have to leave and that we will see them some other time. Well, on the way back to the car Kai's walking slowed, and then stopped. I couldn't see her face because of her hat, and when I bent down to ask what was wrong I saw tears streaming down her face.
She hadn't seen her friend(whom she still says is her best friend) for a few weeks and I guess she really wanted to see her. She even didn't make a fuss before when I told her we don't have time to stay very long.
But it just broke my heart to see her crying because I know it broke hers that she couldn't see her best friend. I told her we will come down sometime later this week before Christmas and take the presents down then.
I called my mom to tell her(and to try to get her to cheer Kai up), and she gave me the idea that maybe Kai's Friend's mom was trying to wean those two off of each other, due to the distance we live now and the kids having new friends, etc. That thought that she was giving me a hint had occurred to me, but when I think about it I just can't see it. Not when the times we have had the two kids together in the past, they(Kai's friend's parents) always spoke of Kai coming over for a slumber party; and taking Kai camping with them when they go; and other things like that. None of which we have done yet, but they do offer.
So, am I(and my mom) reading more into this than I should, or should I ask her directly if she doesn't want Kai to play with her daughter anymore? I hope that isn't the case.
Anyway, hope you all are having a great Christmas season! My MIL is up for a whole week so you know how mine is going.;)
Loved the pet diaries there, Goober! :)

Sterling - I wouldn't take it personally yet. . .sometimes things happen beyond our control. Call the mom and ask her if you could arrange for a time to come out again. Maybe you could meet at McD's or something. . .that way, if they don't show. . . then you know there is a problem.
Been a busy day. . .time for bed.

I agree with homemaker,Sterling. When you do get her on the phone, you might gently mention that you were concerned when you were unable to make contact, worried that something might have happened to one of them. Don't ladle on the guilt, but a gentle hint will let her know that her behavior was rude, and that Kai was hurt. Of course, there's the possibility that something really DID happen, but more likely she just got busy shopping and such. I'd make one more attempt, and if she pulls the same thing again, then just let it go, and explain to Kai as gently as you can that she probably won't see her friend anymore.
One of my backyard lighted deer is standing on two legs! The lights on the other two are not working, thanks to a busy little squirrel. Every year, a squirrel singles out one light socket on one deer, and will not leave the bulb in that socket. Sometimes he just drops the bulb beside the deer, other times he apparently carries it off because I can't find it, but it's always the same bulb, same socket. Go figure. Goofy little things.
Yep, I'm heading for the ironing board, too. The Plum is already there, all cuddled down on top of my pillow. She'll growl when I make her move, but it's no threat, just a grumble. Another goofy little thing.
Have a great Sunday, friends. Sugarplum says ho, ho, ho! --Romeena
