November 29, 2005 - Msg 31813: Morning porch.
Floyd, Thanks for watching over us. I had a strong hunch about Mack. Some of his talk did not add up. I don't have the missing archive stored anywhere but I'm pretty sure it's the one where I was singing "Welcome sweet sprintime we greet thee in sonnnggggg.... and the board went blewie!

Boo, to quote Barney, "I wonder if bigger wires would help?" If your extension cord is to small a wire guage it will increase current flow and cause that to happen. When you say you blew a fuse, do you mean in your house or the small fuse in the string of lights? If you are running more than a couple of strings end to end then that could do it too. If not that you may have a short somewhere in the string in which case I'd just replace the string with a new one. Hope that helps.

Boy, I hope Mrs. Wiley is ok. She goes and gets some supher powder for a little scratch and you guys have her buried! (just kidding, I'm sure she is fine, just busy)

Hope you all have a great day and act like somebody!

November 29, 2005 - Msg 31817: Good morning everyone - thanks for the compliments of being the mysteriously masked Vicks poet. I thought you would enjoy knowing! I am currently writing a Christian children's story about Lester the bungling elf.

My little goat (150 pounds) is doing okay. She is getting stronger everyday. I put her on bales of bedding to help her stretch her leg muscles. Hopefully I will get her walking again soon. I appreciate all the animal prayers sent on her behalf.

Pappa - glad you didn't get blown away by all the storms. It sure was windy and rainy yesterday. They are calling for our first substantial snowfall on Monday (my son's birthday). I had told him about 2 weeks ago that there would be a snow day for mommy and that his school would still be in session. The district I work for is about 4-5 times bigger than the district we live in. Let's put it this way - all of the students in K-12 would fit in the middle school building where I work. They have approximately 80 students per grade level in our home district.

Floyd - thanks for taking care of Mack, I thought he sounded somewhat like a fish out of water. . .

Take care everyone -

It's downright frigid here on my end of the porch. It's still in the 20's here at 10 am, and still fairly windy. We didn't get any of the precipitation that a lot of the US got, so I'm happy about that. Hope the rest of you have fared well over the last few days.

It's really rather sad, that there are people out there with nothing more to do than to try to bother other folks. Mack, if you're reading this, please get a life. Do something worthwhile. If you're immobile for some reason, there are still things you can do. Obviously, your typing fingers work, so find something constructive to do via computer, but please, quit being a nuisance and try to be worthy of the space you occupy and the oxygen you consume on this earth.

homemaker, I knew it was you, but as I said before, I cheated to find out, so no points for me. Thanks for the fun and mystery. We all enjoyed it.

Silly me, I thought the "Rev" who posted a little while back was Rev Jr.'s dad. I think he goes by "Rev."

You know, if we keep getting pestered by imposters and interlopers, maybe Floyd could set up some sort of password that one would have to use before posting. Anybody could still read, but would have to sign in to post. I don't know much about the logistics of doing something like that, it might be hard to do, but it's an idea. Darned interlopers, anyway!

November 29, 2005 - Msg 31881: Oh my gosh, I just posted a long post and then accidentally hit the reset button and lost it! Grrrrr!

Today was a good but difficult day. My 80 yr old dad is sick with the flu and is very weak and is confused at times so I am forcing him to the dr tomorrow! Huuby is still sick and my 4 yr old, too, so I have had alot to do today. I was starting to get on a "pity kick" today and then my Avon lady called (she's the one who lives in the nostalgic old house) and I realized that she is alone. No husband, no children and I am afraid she might me lonely. I started to count my blessings then and there. Thank God for my healthy children and my parents and husband, who is a good man and wonderful provider. I am very thankful to have a family to love and serve and the provisions to do it with. I'm also blessed with many good friends, including all of you. This porch is a great place to be...such nice, non-judgemental people.

Yes, MDC, you guessed the movie. I was a little shocked, too, the first time I heard that line but I am wondering if "making love" may have meant something a bit different than it does these days. Maybe back then it meant kissing or making out instead of the "real deal" like it does today. Any of you more mature porchsters know? Just curious...

ASA, thanks for the input. I will pass on your knowledge to Mr. Boo and let him deal with it. I'M THROUGH! I don't think I have the patience for it at this point (or any other point)in my life. heehee

You know, MDC, you talked about how you learned to be patient with your wife. You are a wise man. My husband has had to deal with this sort of thing off and on for years. I remember after I had my first child, I had some hormone imbalance and got really mean and Bruce was usually the focus of my anger. I remember once throwing a toaster at him and I threw it so hard it hit the wall and busted into a million pieces. When I told my dr about it at my next appointment, she put me on something to straighten me out right away. Seems funny now (probably not to Bruce, though).

Trying to think of another movie quote...hmmmmm...ok. here's another one: (it's an easy one) "There's more of gravy than of grave about you!"

They provide toys for needy kids at Christmas. Its a tough time for her...lots to do and I wish I could help her more. She also has her son, his wife and two young children living with her while they are trying to get through college and be able to afford it on their own. >got ready for work.

>In my rush, I forgot to turn the security system on at my house. It

I'm sad to report that one of my little screech owl visitors has died. He was found in my neighbor's yard yesterday morning, alive but in bad shape. I thought he had been shot, as he had a tiny spot of blood on his feathers. I scooped him up and rushed him across Dallas to a bird rehabber I know of, but he died on the way. She did a post-mortem, and believes he was just picked up by that awful wind we've been having, and thrown into the branches of a tree. He couldn't have weighed over a few ounces, and that wind toppled a 35 lb flowerpot headfirst into my fishpond, so guess it could dash a little owl into a tree. Poor little thing, and now its mate is all alone. Makes me sad. Guess I'll watch some Season Four episodes and maybe I'll feel better.

Spot, I'm glad to do what I do...or I guess I'd get tired of doing it. ha ha.. The love of Mayberry is what keeps me having fun with this site and all of the Mayberry.com and TAGSRWC.com family of web sites and visiting places.

You folks are the salt of the earth and it's my honor to be your host here on the porch....though most of the time I'm in the back room working to keep things working....my heart is here on the porch.

November 30, 2005 - Msg 31904: You are very kind, Floyd and we can't thank you enough for keeping things up and running. Really, it means so much.

Still dealing with ill family members. Tough day. Mr Boo got a shot today at the dr's and I am forcing my dad to the dr tomorrow. He has a bad lung from asbestos and gets pneumonia easily. We are all supossed to be going away for the weekend to Fredricksburg but now, I just don't know. Your continued prayers would be much appreciated.

HM, I liked what you shared with us and I think i will sign off so I can get up a bit early and have a devotion time....I don't want to get ripped off any more than I already have. I have been thinking about how I am quick to lose my temper and yell at the kids lately and I know that if I set my prioroties right and spend that time with the Lord and in the bible, I would be alot sweeter!

Yes MDC, we will try to overlook my sister's little fork thing....

So sorry about the owl, RO. That kind of thing really hurts. You are such a kind soul to try to help the little thing. God bless you for it.

Goodnight All,
Boo

November 30, 2005 - Msg 31905: Oh hi TOM, I didn't see you there. Your poem brought a tear to my eye because It encouraged me in something that I am doing to try and help a family on my street. I am so busy with my own family but have been getting out of my comfort zone, so to speak to help them and have been questioning my wisdom in doing so. I feel in my heart I should, though, and the poem helped to encourage me in that. Thanks.

KY GIRL, I can SO see myself throwing those plates against the wall...I know that feeling well! ha

Nighty-night (for real this time)

November 30, 2005 - Msg 31906: What Christmas movie is this from??: "The jelly of the month club?!.....It's the gift that keeps on giving."

November 30, 2005 - Msg 31907: Romeena, you are such a good person for even trying to help that little bird.

You can have my prayers, Boo. I hope things get easier for you. I know about tough times, I think we all do. But what can help is knowing that we are not alone with our problems and we have the support and caring of, not only God, but also of people we may not even really know.

Have a nice night!

December 01, 2005 - Msg 31908: So sorry for your little owl Ro - we are critter lovers on this porch. My goatie is getting along really well. I helped her stand yesterday on all fours. She was wobbly but she is getting her strength back.

Prayers please for my son's teacher. Her mother is very ill and my son was told that she was close to death. So please lift up Mrs. Brown. She is a good Christian teacher. .that is a blessing in itself.

Thank you always Tom for your inspirational poetry. You are very loved on this porch.

December 01, 2005 - Msg 31911: It was my son's teacher's mother -in-law that passed away. I just found this out. hm

December 01, 2005 - Msg 31912: Prayers for the Brown family. Thank you for telling us so we could pray, HM. I am rejoicing in what Jesus said to the family of Lazarus, "Whoever believes in me, though he were dead yet shall he live and he who lives and believes in me shall never die". The gospel is certainly very good news.

Glad Star is on her feet. That's an answer to prayer right there!

Thanks for the encouragement, Sterling. You are always just a joy to talk to. I don't know if you realize it or not but there is something so open and honest about you. You always share from the heart and its a blessing to us. My days just seem so busy and stressful sometimes and coming here to the porch for a few minutes each day helps me come back to earth, just knowing we are not alone in our difficulties and we can still laugh and rejoice with each other is a huge help.

My dad fell when he got up this morning. He is so weak. I made an appointment for him but its not until 4pm and I have to somehow get him cleaned up. He has been wearing the same clothes for days but I have not had the heart to make him clean up. He just looks so miserable. My brother in law is off work today and I think I will have him come and help me. I keep thinking about the day when dad won't be able to do for himself. He's a big guy, about 6 foot and 220lbs. Not sure how I'll do it. Oh well, I shouldn't borrow trouble. He may still have some good years left, Lord willing.

I better go...got some cleaning and packing to do and then tomorrow its off to Fredricksburg! I need a vacation. My sister and her husband will be coming to stay with my parents while I'm gone. Fredricksburg is a neat place at Christmastime. I'll be eating some good german food and seeing some nice Christmas lights and a Christmas parade.....can't wait.

(whispering...) "Hey ASA,...are you really going to try Homemaker's buckeye candy?? Do you have good insurance?" hehe

December 01, 2005 - Msg 31913: Good morning, everyone! Sterling, I have to second what Boo said about you. I have the same impression. What would we do without our dear porch friends? Even though few of us ever get to meet face-to-face (at least on this planet), there are still bonds and friendships that are so precious. Someone suggested a while back that we should all appoint a family member to step in and inform the porch if something happens to one of us. I think that's a great idea, and I've already spoken to my kids about it. Just be sure to give them the web address.

I don't deserve any thanks for trying to help my little owl friend. Without any doubt, I know that everyone on this porch would have done the same thing. I'm just sorry that he couldn't be saved, and relieved that it was a natural force that took him, not some imbecile with a pellet gun.

Well, away I go. Errands to run, therapy session this afternoon, house to straighten, then I must (dum-dum-DUMMMM!) start decorating the tree! It's one of those things that I dread, but enjoy immensely once I get started. The thing is nine feet tall, and I have several hundred ornaments, each of which has a special meaning to me. A friend is coming over to watch more of Season Four, so perhaps she'll help me with the tree as well.

Have a great day, everyone! Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

"Ho, ho, ho." --Barney (very unenthusiastically)

"Try putting a 'pooh' on the end of it there." --Andy (impish grin on his face)
