Hope you are all enjoying a nice, fall evening. Supposed to be in the 90's here tommorrow...I am beginning to sound like a broken record.

I had an interesting day today...the 2 pygmy goats I mentioned last week that belong to the neighbors were roaming the street today and eating the neighbor's flowers. I had to laugh. Wish ya'll could have seen them...looked like 2 mischevious little kids (he--pun intended). Two different sets of neighbors were out shouting and shooing them out of their flowerbeds (one was a stuffy, unfriendly preacher and I had to laugh). I went outside with some Cheeze Nips and those two goats went bananas. I sat down in a chair and they literally clinbed onto my lap to get the Ceeze Nips. It was wonderful! I noticed that they are both girls and one appears to be very pregnant. Seems like our place always ends up being a lost and found (especially for pregnant animals).

October 19, 2005 - Msg 30992: evenin porch,so good to read the posts and see newcomers and old friends posting.Welcome Fred Goss!Romeena,hope you get feeling better soon,I know how badly you want to get outside and get in the dirt.If I can't get outside and do what I like I get claustrophobic,have to open the doors and windows or something!MDC,I love reading boys life,especially the older copies.One of my favorite pastimes is hiking,and they always have good articles.My washing machine quit working this week,so,my mother still had the wringer washer she used when I was growing up,she hadn't used it in years,just kept it in her basement.I have brought it to my house and I'm using it and my daughters are helping me,and,it's bringing back great memories.The difference is ,when mine are done washing I throw them in the dryer.Mom didn't have that luxury,we went to the clothesline!My son made it home from Fort jackson.He had a suprise for us all,he got engaged to a girl he had been dating who is also in the army.They are planning a April wedding at her family home in Colorado.Well,I hear we are having a get together at the lake,sounds like fun.I can bring some marshmallows,chocolate and graham crackers for smores.Since my little ones have been off from school for a month because of a teachers strike,we have done all kinds of arts and crafts.So,I've learned how to make newspaper logs that burn different color flames and lots of nature crafts if any body is interested!Ha HA!Well,better close for now,sorry I'm talking so much tonight,just haven't had a chance to sit in my rocker and visit for awhile.Good night and God Bless-ky girl

Last night we were watching a tape of the ep where barney is cooking in his room, and he shows Andy his bound detective magazines, and my dad elbows me and says, "so where did you keep your girlie detective magazines at home?" MDC, you are the only person that seems to remember John Michael Talbot. He has been one of my very favorite performers since I was 19, when I discovered him. My first tape/album was Come To The Quiet and its still probably my favorite. I saw him in concert about 15 years ago and I have wondered what became of him. I never hear about him. When was it that you saw him? I have to saw that he was amazing in concert. Did you find him to be so?

Are the Astros in the world series? I am ashamed to say I'm a Texan and don't know anything about it, sheesh! Baseball is important but what Texans really get into is football. I went to a A+M football game tonight and it was alot of fun. The weather was perfect and A+M (Kingsville) won.

October 23, 2005 - Msg 31060: Brrrrr! It's chilly here in north Texas! It's 58 degrees outside if you believe the weather website, and 60 if you believe my thermometer. Skies are cloudy and gray, wind is whipping things around, not a squirrel or a bird in sight in spite of fresh feed on the stones around the critter station. The filter in the fish pond is very dirty and clogged, got to get out there and clean it out before I start losing fish. This should be interesting, balancing on crutches while I do it!

I know, 60 degrees doesn't sound very cold to Asa and some of you other folks on the northern end of the porch, but here in Texas, it's a cold front! I'll be glad when I'm back on two good legs, because there's a lot of "winterizing" to be done out there. Many things need to be pruned and mulched, winter color planted, just a lot to do. My landscaper friend will be here in early November, to expand and deepen the fish pond, so the little fellers can survive the cold weather.

Well, gotta run. My friend is here, ready to go find some lunch. I'm glad she's willing to drive, because the doctor still won't allow me to do so. Aargh! I'm really tired of this! Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

October 23, 2005 - Msg 31067: Hazel, around here about this time, everyone plants pansies and snapdragons, which will bloom for the next two or three months. I usually have pansies right through Christmas, actually. They'll die back for a few weeks when it's really cold, like in January, then come back with a flourish in early spring. It's the heat that does them in. Just about the time for petunias to go in the ground, the pansies are playing out. Actually, petunias go in before the pansies die, so there's really non-stop color. My petunias are just now about gone, but six flats of pansies are in the ground and blooming. I need about ten more flats in, but just couldn't get it done before the surgery, and sure can't do it now. My landscaper friend is coming in a couple of weeks to enlarge the fish pond, so he'll plant them for me then.

Ro it finally cooled off here about 2 hours ago. I heard a gust of wind hit the house and went outside and stood in the cool breeze. Nirvana!

I am happy today, I have a good friend who had twin boys 4 days ago and I got to see them today. They are so cute and weigh about 5 lbs each. Another of my best friends had a baby yesterday--a little girl. I will see her tommorrow. Can't wait to get me some baby neck sugar! My best friend's daughter is having a c-section on Thursday (she's the teenager with the alcoholic boyfriend)and I'm quite sure my friend will be the one raising the baby. The mother is completely irresponsible and ignorant. I feel so sorry for the baby but I know there is no way the girl will give the baby to be adopted...we went through this with her 2 years ago and who knows how many times she will get pregnant after this. Anyway, we are just having a baby boom around here. I sure am glad my childbearing days are over...."Can I get a witness?"!

Well, its getting late, better put out the lamp and get some sleep.

October 24, 2005 - Msg 31080: Mornin' porchsters. Sorry for not posting more. I'm trying to limit my computer viewing. Last week the doctor told me it looks like my eye may be permanently dilated due to the trauma. Plus, there's a cataract forming, due to the trauma as well. The cataract can be taken care of easily enough. And I can learn to deal with the eye being dilated. If this is the worse it's gonna be, then so what! I'm just grateful to be able to see out of it. Hope everyone is well. Prayers for those who need 'em . Hopefully, I can catch up on the archives soon.

I just found the most wonderful article in the February edition of "Guideposts" magazine. It's an argument for the presence of animals, including our pets, in Heaven. It's too lengthy to copy here, and their archive website requires membership. Would have joined, but the site is under renovation and they're not processing new members at present. However, if you can get access to a copy - any of you who are still grieving for a lost pet - I'd highly recommend the article. Ties right in with a sermon my pastor preached years ago. He believes animals will be there, and so do I. Very comforting thought.

Ro, I know the bible talks about animals in heaven but doesn't say if our pets will be there, but here's my argument for pets in heaven: I believe God is preparing a place for his children and wants to bless us in every way imaginable (and unimaginable)...for most of us that would certainly mean reuniting with our pets. I know that when I think about what heaven might be like, I think about God first, then family and friends I will see again.

We are having such a nice, cool day in South Texas. I'm not making chili but I am making beef veggie soup. Ya'll are welcome to "come and get it!" Also made a peach Dump cake. I'll bet you ladies know what that is...you just dump your can of peaches in a dish, dump a dry yellow cake mix over it, sprinkle on some cinnamon and then cover with a stick or 2 of melted butter and bake. Good stuff...real comfort food.

October 24, 2005 - Msg 31084: Boo, I've always held that same feeling close to my heart, especially when I look into the soft brown eyes of the Plum, and see the love and trust that's there. The "Guideposts" article goes deeper than that, though. It was written by Ptolemy Tompkins, a senior editor at the magazine. With everyone's kind permission, I'll quote part of it, though certainly not all.

"One Native American legend states that when God set about to create the world, he brought his dog along with him."

This would indicate that the idea of animals existing in God's eternal structure is not a new one.

"The Bible does indeed have an answer about whether we will see our furry loved ones again. Consider the story in Genesis of the very first covenant established between God and his people, made with Noah right after the flood. ... God tells Noah that he is creating a covenant 'with you, and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle and every beast of the earth with you, of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth.' God goes on to say that his covenant with 'all flesh' shall never be 'cut off' - a strong suggestion that animals will not be excluded from his dealings with the world."

"Then there's Luke 3:6. 'All flesh shall see the salvation of God." Or Mark 16:15 - a passage well-loved by that great friend of animals, St. Francis of Assisi. The risen Jesus tells the apostles to go into the world and 'preach the gowpel to every creature.'"

Now, folks, I know this grows lengthy. But consider these further passages, abbreviated somewhat by me: "What about the argument that animals can't go to heaven because they don't have souls? The Hebrew term repeatedly used to describe animals in the Old Testament is nephesh chayah. Chayah means 'living', while nephesh is the Hebrew term for the force that animates the body, the whatever-it-is that makes a person or an animal a conscious, sentient individual."

"A funny thing happened when this term was translated into English. In most English versions of the Bible, different words are used to translate nephesh chayah, depending on whether animals or people are being discussed. In Genesis 1:21 and 24 it is translated as 'living creature.' In Genesis 2:7, where the term refers only to people (by context), it's translated as 'living soul.' The use of two different terms in the English translations completely blurs the fact that in the original Hebrew, no such distinction exists."

Tompkins goes on to quote that moving and compelling passage from the Old Testament, prefiguring the Christian heaven - Isaiah's vision of the Peaceable Kingdom:

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them."

"Why, when Isaiah wanted to paint the ultimate picture of heavenly fulfillment, did he choose to make such rich use of animals? Because he knew what every pet owner knows - A world without animals is a barren one. And clearly, a heaven without our pets would be less heavenly."

Well, that's it, right or wrong. Sorry for the length, but if it brings a measure of comfort to even one porchster who has found himself or herself grieving for a lost pet, then it's worth the space.

Speaking of such reminded me of what our pastor announced yesterday which i would like to share.
October is clergy appreciation month, and a church member gave the pastor a neat replica of the 10 commandments in a faux stone tablet shape, about 20 inches high, English on one side and Hebrew on the other, which he showed off Sunday. He also had a great idea, let's get these in every church and synogage that we can.
He asked the giver if he could announce the source and price and he said "go for it."
Believe it or not they came from Skymall.com and are 75.00, but what a great Christmas gift to the church they could be. (Item number DB-43010)
Well, something to think about, maybe could be part of ti-the for Dec.

October 24, 2005 - Msg 31089: Ro, I think there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to the "living creature" part you mentioned. For instance, I had a cat when I was a teen and the cat died. I honestly really loved the cat. I grieved like one does when one loses a human loved one. I remember the terrible heartsick feeling when you feel like you can't breathe and you wake up in the morning thinking maybe it was just a bad dream but then it hits you. Now I have never felt that way about a possesion when I lost it. The mysterious "thing" that makes us living creatures is only there in people and animals and that's why we can love them so. It was God's plan in the beginning that we love and care for animals (when God told Adam to care for them). I was thinking about how Jesus says God cares about even the little sparrow that falls to the ground. Jesus also said that we are more important than many sparrows, of course, but God cares very much about all of his creation. I do think that man can get things out of balance by either thinking too little of animals or sometimes putting animals above humans, which I believe is wrong, too.

Well, I am so tired I feel like someone beat the stuffing out of me. Its supposed to be 40 degrees here tonight so I think I'll snuggle down under the covers and get some sleep. Bye!

One thing that was not in the article, though, was what you said about loving people and animals differently than we love possessions. You are so right. We can be angry or upset at the loss of a material possession, but I can't imagine grieving such a loss. However, would I grieve for my little Sugarplum? You bet!

It's pretty chilly here, too. I switched over to the furnace today, first time since last winter. I'm pretty sure we'll go back to a/c at least once more, as the weather changes, but furnace weather is certainly creeping in.

And look, I come bearing Cinnamon French Toast, link sausages, bacon, ham, eggs, potatoes, and by pappa's request....grits. I am doing fine though, working toward moving back to Illinois. I have to wait until the kids finish the following school year AND for me to finish my schooling. I have enrolled in college again, majoring in Theraputic Massage. Oh and pappa, if you want you can go to my journal to see how things are going. I need to update it today...at least I will try to update it..hehe.

I finally got my bat house installed last week. It's on top of a 16' aluminum, cat-proof pole, away from trees or wires, so they should like it. Sure hope I get some residents. The mosquitoes are just terrible around here. No, I'm not afraid the bats will get in my hair and lay their eggs and make me go crazy. Bats are too smart for that. Moths now, that's another story, and you can go crazy from them, too. Boy, moths are dumb.
