Prayers go out to Soldier Kevin and his family. A simple thank you doesn't seem enough -
We moved hay last nite - getting ready for winter. We will be cutting wood soon - as most of you know - that's all we heat with so it takes 6 - 7 truck loads for us to get through a winter. We will be busy little bees. When we finally get our new house built - we are doing total electric.
We are excited to be getting on the dish network next week - we have 14 foot big dish in our back yard and although we get some really good channels on C-band everything is going digital so lightening hit the big dish Saturday and Dish Network was called.
I'll be looking forward to the Mongolian Papers Ro - I guess I shouldn't tell you that we took two goats to the butcher on Monday and take three more next week. Just think - the next time you eat Papa John's Pepperoni Pizza - you can say "BAAAAA" - most pepperoni and most of the meat at Taco Bell is g-o-a-t. Someone asked me if I named all the boy goats - there are some who get names just because it happens (like Motley has a mottled colored head and Forest was born in the woods) but for the most part, we just call them by their mother's name and say "Sunny's boy", etc.
WEll - enough gabbing for now - take care everyone - it's WEDNESDAY!

The Irishman said if my wife puts corn and hash in my lunch again tomorrow,I'm going to jump off this bldg. The American said ,if I have another sandwich in my lunch tomorrow I'm going to jump off this bldg too. The next day at lunch, the Mexican had tacos so he jumped. The Irishman had corn and hash and he jumped. The American had a sandwich and he jumped.Since they all died the same day they had a combined service for them. At the funeral, the Mexican's wife was sobbing and said,if I had'nt fixed him a taco in his lunch he would still be here. Yhe Irishman's wife was crying and going on and said if I had fixed something besides corn and hash my husband would still be here. Mornin to the PORCH! Hope everybody is having a good Friday...and has a great weekend. A little something to keep the work day in perspective...
Psalm 23 - For the Work Place
The Lord is my real boss, and I shall not want.
He gives me peace when chaos is all around me.
He gently reminds me to pray and do all things without
murmuring and complaining.
He reminds me that He is my source and not my job.
He restores my sanity every day and guides my decisions,
that I might honor him in all that I do.
Even though I face absurd amounts of e-mails, system
crashes, unrealistic deadlines, budget cutbacks, gossiping
co-workers, discriminating supervisors, and an aging body
that doesn't cooperate every morning, I still will not stop---
for He is with me! His presence, His peace, and His power
will see me through.
He raises me up, even when they fail to promote me.
He claims me as His own, even when the company threatens
to let me go. His Faithfulness and love is better than any bonus
check.
His retirement plan beats every 401k there is!
When it's all said and done, I'll be working for Him a whole lot
longer and for that, I BLESS HIS NAME!

A friend sent this to me..and I usually don't pass things that I can't verify along. But with this, it doens't matter if the story is true, it's the meaning behind it. We're all meant to be used in some way...sometimes we're just too stubborn to take advantage of a "God moment"...
Beth Moore
April 20, 2005
Knoxville Airport -
Waiting to board the plane: I had the Bible on my lap and was very
intent upon what I was doing. I'd had a marvelous morning with the Lord.
I say that because I want to tell you it is a scary thing to have the
Spirit of God really working in you. You could end up doing some things you
never would have done otherwise. Life in the Spirit can be dangerous for a
thousand reasons not the least of which is your ego...
I tried to keep from staring, but he was such a strange sight. Humped over
in a wheelchair, he was skin and bones, dressed in clothes that obviously
fit when he was at least twenty pounds heavier. His knees protruded from
his trousers, and his shoulders looked like the coat hanger was still
in his shirt.
His hands looked like tangled masses of veins and bones. The strangest
part of him was his hair and nails. Stringy grey hair hung well over his
shoulders and down part of his back. His fingernails were long.
Clean, but
strangely out of place on an old man.
I looked down at my Bible as fast as I could, discomfort burning my face.
As I tried to imagine what his story might have been, I found myself
wondering if I'd just had a Howard Hughes sighting. Then, I remembered
reading somewhere that he was dead. So this man in the airport... an
impersonator maybe? Was a camera on us somewhere?....
There I sat trying to concentrate on the Word to keep from being
concerned about a thin slice of humanity served on a wheelchair only a few seats
from me. All the while my heart was growing more and more overwhelmed with a
feeling for him. Let's admit it. Curiosity is a heap more comfortable than
true concern, and suddenly I was awash with aching emotion for this
bizarre-looking old man.
I had walked with God long enough to see the handwriting on the wall.
I've learned that when I begin to feel what God feels, something so contrary
to my natural feelings, something dramatic is bound to happen. And it may
be embarrassing. I immediately began to resist because I could feel God
working on my spirit and I started arguing with God in my mind.
"Oh no, God please no." I looked up at the ceiling as if I could stare
straight through it into heaven and said, "Don't make me witness to this
man. Not right here and now. Please. I'll do anything. Put me on the
same plane, but don't make me get up here and witness to this man in front of
this gawking audience. Please, Lord!"...
There I sat in the blue vinyl chair begging His Highness, "Please don't
make me witness to this man. Not now. I'll do it on the plane."
Then I heard it..."I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to
brush his hair." The words were so clear, my heart leapt into my throat, and
my thoughts spun like a top. Do I witness to the man or brush his hair?
No brainer. I looked straight back up at the ceiling and said, "God, as I
live and breathe, I want you to know I am ready to witness to this man.
I'm on this Lord. I'm you're girl! You've never seen a woman witness
to a man faster in your life. What difference does it make if his hair is a
mess if he is not redeemed? I am on him. I am going to witness to
this man."
Again as clearly as I've ever heard an audible word, God seemed to write
this statement across the wall of my mind. "That is not what I said, Beth.
I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to go brush his hair."
I looked up at God and quipped, "I don't have a hairbrush. It's in my
suitcase on the plane, How am I suppose to brush his hair without a
hairbrush?"...
God was so insistent that I almost involuntarily began to walk toward
him as these thoughts came to me from God's word: "I will thoroughly furnish
you unto all good works." (2 Tim 3:17) I stumbled over to the wheelchair
thinking I could use one myself. Even as I retell this story my pulse
quickens and I feel those same butterflies.
I knelt down in front of the man, and asked as demurely as possible,
"Sir, may I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?" He looked back at me
and said, "What did you say?" "May I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?"
He responded in volume ten, "Little lady, if you expect me to
hear you, you're going to have to talk louder than that. At this point,
I took a deep breath and blurted out, "SIR, MAY I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF
BRUSHING YOUR HAIR?"
At that point, every eye in the place darted right at me. I was the
only thing in the room looking more peculiar than old Mr. Longlocks. Face
crimson and forehead breaking out in a sweat, I watched him look up at
me with absolute shock on his face, and say, "If you really want to."
Are you kidding? Of course I didn't want to. But God didn't seem
interested in my personal preference right about then. He pressed on my
heart until I could utter the words, "Yes, sir, I would be pleased. But
I have one little problem. I don't have a hairbrush."
"I have one in my bag," he responded. I went around to the back of that
wheelchair and I got on my hands and knees and unzipped the stranger's
old carry-on hardly believing what I was doing. I stood up and started
brushing the old man's hair. It was perfectly clean, but it was tangled and matted.
I don't do many things well, but I must admit I've had notable
experience untangling knotted hair mothering two little girls. Like I'd done with
either Amanda or Melissa in such a condition, I began brushing at the
very bottom of the strands, remembering to take my time not to pull.
A miraculous thing happened to me as I started brushing that old man's
hair. Everybody else in the room disappeared. There was no one alive for
those moments except that old man and me. I brushed and I brushed and I
brushed until every tangle was out of that hair.
I know this sounds so strange, but I've never felt that kind of love for
another soul in my entire life. I believe with all my heart, I - for
that few minutes - felt a portion of the very love of God. He had overtaken
my heart for a little while like someone renting a room and making Himself at
home for a short while. The emotions were so strong and so pure that I
knew they had to be God's.
His hair was finally as soft and smooth as an infant's. I slipped the
brush back in the bag, went around the chair to face him. I got back down
on my knees, put my hands on his knees, and said, "Sir, do you know my Jesus?"
He said, "Yes, I do." Well, that figures. He explained, "I've known
Him since I married my bride." She wouldn't marry me until I got to know
the Savior." He said, "You see, the problem is, I haven't seen my bride in
months. I've had open-heart surgery, and she's been too ill to come see
me. I was sitting here thinking to myself. What a mess I must be for
my bride."
Only God knows how often He allows us to be part of a divine moment when
we are completely unaware of the significance. This, on the other hand,
was one of those rare encounters when I knew God had intervened in details
only He could have known. It was a God moment, and I'll never forget it.
Our time came to board, and we were not on the same plane. I was deeply
ashamed of how I'd acted earlier and would have been so proud to have
accompanied him on that aircraft.
I still had a few minutes, and as I gathered my things to board, the
airline hostess returned from the corridor, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She said, "That old man's sitting on the plane, sobbing. Why did you
do that? What made you do that?"
I said, "Do you know Jesus? He can be the bossiest thing!" We got to share.
I learned something about God that day. He knows if you're exhausted
because you're hungry, you're serving in the wrong place or it is time
to move on but you feel too responsible to budge. He knows if you're
hurting or feeling rejected. He knows if you're sick or drowning under a wave
of temptation. He knows if you just need your hair brushed.
He sees you as an individual. Tell Him your need!
I got on my own flight, sobs choking my throat, wondering how many
opportunities just like that one had I missed along the way... all
because I didn't want people to think I was strange.
God didn't send me to that old man. He sent that old man to me.

Shoes are the only"pair"that actually has two separate pieces. There was an old lady and man who went to the State Fair every year. Every time they went the old man wanted to ride the airplane. The ride was $50.00 and the wife always said that's a lot of money for a ride. $50.00 is $50.00. This year the attendant says to the old couple, I'm going to let you ride for free but don't say a word. OK? They promised they wouldn't. The pilot took them up, over ,around ,flip-flops,and every which way. When he landed,he told the old man he was proud of him for not saying anything. Mavis, so good to see you! I just checked out your website, and it is very nice! IF I had a dog, and IF I lived near you, I would certainly be one of your clients! I hope the troubles between you and your sister work their way out and you can have peace again.
Hey to Boo, also. Good to see you are doing well, and I hope that home of yours sells real soon. Check in with us when you can!
ky girl, good to see you posting too! Hey to slim, (that was a funny one!).
Goober, just so's you know, I copied that message of yours above, and sent it to quite a few friends of mine. I had to wipe the tears out of my eye before I did it though!
Asa, I did see you snuck in there! Good to see you. Is it getting to be fall there yet?!
My end of the porch has been kind of rainy this morning, so if it dries out enough, I have to get off this rocker and mow my wee...er lawn! Better get moving!
Have a wonder-filled Mayberry Day,

Hi Irishter, good to hear from you. There was a man driving along the road and he saw a rabbit in the road and tried to avoid it. He couldn't so he looked out his rear view mirror and saw it laying in the road. He turned around and went back and got out of his car and was crying over the dead rabbit when a lady came along. The man told her he was so sorry he had killed this rabbit. She started shaking her hands and telling this man not to worry. She gets a spray can out of her trunk and sprays the rabbit real good. Well the rabbit got up and started hopping down the road. He turns around and waves at the lady and man. He goes a little farther and turns around and waves again and so on. The man asked the lady what she sprayed on the rabbit and she looked at the can and read Hair spray. Will bring life back to dead hair and permanent wave. How's that one? Slim

Good Mornin' Porch! It was a very busy weekend here on the Hillbilly end of the porch. MDC...Thank You for sending the card to Kevin and a BIG Thank You to everyone on the porch for your care, concern and Prayers for the soldier Kevin Downs. Kevin's sister Shannon was in from TX this weekend and was at preachin' yesterday...she said Kevin was still in good spirits...I don't know if I have updated the porch but Kevin had to have both feet amputated above the ankles. I told Shannon about my wonderful friends here on the porch and that you would be sending Kevin cards and she was very touched by your kindness and I wants you to know that she and her family can not tell you how much they appreciate it and what it will mean to Kevin. Just more reasons why I Love this porch.
Thanks for the great stories Slim in the midst of all the current events we need some old fashioned pure laughter..."A Cheerful Heart is Good Medicine" Proverbs 17:22

I've been in front of the TV all morning. Those poor people in the Astrodome. So many people in one place. It could have been a tragedy in it's self. I'm glad our Lord had his hand over them and protected them. On a lighter side. A traveling salesman stopped in a Amish community in his travels. Once he rented the room,he was going to watch some TV and relax. There was'nt a TV. Oh well,he says, I'll call my wife and talk to her before I turn in. There was no phone either. What the heck,I'll go get some soda out of the machine and just sit around and relax. You guessed it, there was no soda machine either! As he was paying his bill the next morning, he said to the desk clerk Why is'nt there a TV in your rooms? The clerk said Because we're waiting for Jesus to come back. Well why is'nt there a phone in the room? The clerk says..We're waiting for Jesus to come back. There isn't even a soda machine. Why he asked? We're waiting for Jesus to come back. The salesman says..."If he's ever been "here" he won't be back!" Slim

Miraculously, he didn't injure his spinal cord, and he doesn't appear to have internal injuries or brain damage. He is in very bad shape however. I just got a report on my brother-in-law. He went through nine hours of surgery on his face and the doctors were very pleased with how all came out. They say he will look pretty much like he did before the accident. They also said he should buy a lottery ticket because people just don't fall two stories, land on their face and knees hitting concrete, and live to tell about it. I believe God already had His hand in the situation before we even knew about it!
I would appreciate your continued prayers, because he still has a lot of healing to do. God is good, though, and I believe He will help Mark to completely heal.
Prayers for all the people affected by Katrina, they sure are in some desperate straits...
All else I can say is...GOD IS GOOD!
Have a wonderful Mayberry evening!
