And tonight, the Christmas episode where Ben Wheeler conspires to get himself locked up. That episode, probably more than any other, reminds me of why Ellie was my favorite of Andy's girlfriends.

Hope all are well and having a wonderful holiday. I am now done work for a few days, and soooo thankful! It was a terrible week at the bakery.(Great for the business-terrible for my work crew.) We were worked to the max and it was still not enough! The economy MUST be great! But the thing that upset me the most, was that people were impatient, rude and sometimes self-absorbed. They had no good will for anyone else. But, then there were the ones that made up for the "bad guys". What a blessing they were!!!
I pray that the Christmas season will have new meaning for all of us. We will cherish the people who mean so much to us, and not forget to tell them "I Love you". It's nice to hear even though they know.Have a restful and peaceful holiday. ~New Neighbor

Friends, those are the lyrics to a beautiful song called "That Night", which was used as the anthem for the Entry of the Kings for several years in a beautiful Christmas Pageant presented by our church. It was well done, was even televised a couple of years. My dear husband was one of the kings for about twelve years. As the kings entered, he was the last one, the first two having taken up their positions flanking the Nativity. Then my tall, handsome husband would come down the aisle wearing a red velvet robe, with pages carrying a long golden train, and he would ascend the steps to the Nativity, and at the final crashing strains of that anthem, he would kneel and present his gift. Mary would accept it, then extend her hand and he would rise. She would invite him to look into the manger, which he would do, and then Mary would pick up the baby and hand it to him, and he would turn and present the baby for all to see. One year, as he was looking down into the manger, a tiny hand came up and caught my husband's finger and held on. He instinctively played the scene out, talking to and playing with the baby until he let go, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Then he picked the baby up and presented him to the audience, with actual sobs audible all over the room.
At this time of the year, it's memories like this which hold me together, and most of all, it's the knowledge that he's again face to face with the Savior, only this time it's not a baby that he sees, but our own risen and ascended Savior, in all His heavenly glory, and my husband is part of the worshipping host of heaven. Thank you, Lord.

December 26, 2004 - Msg 25974: Hello everyone..Dec. 26 now..and my house is a wreck!! haha..but the kids are quite occupied..so much stuff.. THe hubby and I fared pretty well too.
We have snow today...just a day late, haha.. I went to church..got the girls all bundled up..i was suppose to teach.. hubby is at work.. got there and they canceled sunday school...I had to come back in the mess..Its beautiful..and I love it..but dont like to drive in it with the girls and by myself.
Anyway..we have about 5 inches right now..The oldest is dying to go out and make snow angels..the 13 month old just sits at the front door watching it.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that Santa was good to one and all.. I got my TAGS DVDs...

Sorry to say I didn't have a great Holiday - after 3 weeks without help at home, I finally overdid it and re-injured myself (rebroke a rib and subluxed rib 3 @ sternum). Cooking 10lbs of sweet potato souffle did me in and I was no good for the party at the inlaws Christmas eve. Yesterday and today just trying to battle the pains. And I almosed missed Christmas Mass!! But lucky for me, Big Jeff was willing to drive me around till we found a Church who's services hadn't started yet. This was my best gift of all!

Possum, we got WIND down here, serious wind! Tore the ribbons off my house. Alyce, you enjoy your DVD, I'm still loving my copy!

December 26, 2004 - Msg 25977: Prayers for Mrs. Wiley. Take it easy, now, you hear. I was rather done in by the Christmas rush myself--just too much baking, shopping, wrapping, running. My husband got the flu and had to stay in bed for Christmas day. I made it to my mom's with the kids but when we got home around 5, I went and took a nap until 9:30! Felt much rested after that. I'm trying to take control of my busy life in 2005 and let the unimportant things go! Hope ya'll had a wonderful holiday.

It is so windy here today. We got 7 inches of snow yesterday and the wind is just making it look like a snow storm out there today.
It is after 11 and I am still in my PJs...I finally have some new ones, so I am enjoying them. Ha! My hubby got me two pair..I was sleeping in my sweat suits..I needed pjs so badly!

The kids are worn out and there are toys everywhere..I had to rearrange the house this morning and still trying to clean up. The laundry is ridiculous too!!

We had similar experience Christmas Eve. We both thought sevice was at 10 pm, when we got there, everything was dark. It was at 8!! So we went to a Midnight Mass! Wonderful experience!
I was not the interloper, but read some with interest. Now today we hear of this massive quake with 13000 casulties, millions homeless, Tigress and Euphrates in the news all year, the horrible hurricanes in Florida, etc. Makes one say 'Am I ready to meet my maker'! Keep oil in your lamps, that is for sure!
You are all great friends and i want to visit you in the Heavenly Mayberry some day!

It was beautiful..I was suppose to be giving birth to her(Him) on stage and when my husband (Joseph) delivered the baby and turned to the audience..the baby just wailed...like it was really being born.. December 27, 2004 - Msg 25988: Good afternoon, everyone! Pipeman, that ill-fated post that was supposed to be purple and turned out to be too bold is a perfect example of what happens when you don't mind your <'s and >'s carefully. Sorry about that!

MDC, you're right, I do miss him terribly, but over this Christmas weekend, I saw him everywhere. My son's eyes, his hands, his mannerisms - all just like his father. My children all have his kindness, his humor, his joy in family being together. They all speak of him freely and comfortably, and I love that. He was a very special man, he was loved and he is sorely missed, but he left his image all around, in his children and grandchildren, and in my heart.

They have all gone home - both daughters back to Fredericksburg, taking three boys, ages 9, 10 and 11 with them, and four dogs. We had -- a year-old Jack Russell/fox terrier mix, for starters. Can you imagine? Like a cross between a tornado and a hurricane. A golden retriever pup, three months old, another hurricane. A gorgeous, dignified 3-yr old yellow lab with impeccable manners. Last but not least, an elderly, grizzled, much-beloved little Scottie/Schnauzer mix who could get by with murder but doesn't try. All these furkids living in the house along with the Plum, and two more grandsons, 16-mo old and 3 yrs old visiting frequently. It was glorious bedlam, and I loved every minute of it. Now it's quiet, and the Plum and I will probably just totally vegetate for the rest of the day, and work on shoveling out the debris tomorrow. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean - the rest we can work on later. It was fun, and I'm sorry it's over.

Mrs. Wiley, are we going to have to put you in body armor? You've just got to quit hurting your poor self!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I went to vesper services with my son and his family at their church, and then to his house, and the girls from Fredericksburg came in later and met us out there. On Christmas Day my son and his wife went to her mom's for Christmas dinner, and my girls and I and the dogs and grandkids just hung out here, had waffles, and were lazy, until early evening, when my son and family and DIL's family all came here for tamales and chili, and we had a big old gift exchange, with the little kids opening their presents from the family as well. Such confusion, such fun. Piles of paper to be recycled, and a good time was had by all.

December 27, 2004 - Msg 25992: ro= sorry about your loss. i saw a popular trend- you take a picture ofyour loved ones, in small frame and put them on the tree facingout. it brings back the warm memories and it's almost like there celebrating too. mdc= welcome home friend. that's why i waited till you were out of town to outsource. thi weather is predicted in the bible as one of the signs our lords return, amen. i vacationed once on that very thialand beach. at that time you could rent a cottage house for 7.00 dollars a day. for 3.00 dollars a boat would take you fishing, they had gear, bait and all, then they'd stop close to an island and the citizens would prepare a big meal while you swimmed. i predict that 2005 will be a massive year, weather, economies, dieses, crime, and the rest. but on the porch we can weather it until our lord's return. lol. pipeman

I haven't done that, but I have an ornament on the tree with an inscription that reminds me of where my beloved is spending the holiday, and there are pictures of him everywhere. The more senior porchsters here know that it has been over eight years since I lost him, but at times it still feels like yesterday. This porch and all the good folks here, just like you, have been God's messengers for me many times over.

RevJr. thank you. You're very sweet, but I have the best kids and in-laws in the world. Now, my recipe for tamales is an extremely simple one. Here it is: "Contact daughter, submit request." She buys them from a Hispanic lady in Fredericksburg, who makes them in her own kitchen and sells them around town. They're doggone good, too! However, I will tell you that I have made tamales in the past, and found them to be about the most labor-intensive food one can prepare. It takes two days, beginning with the preparation of the meat the day before, and ending with the steaming of the completed product. Believe me, when I can buy them for about $6/dozen, as opposed to making them myself, I'm gonna do it! (Mine were really delish, though!)

This thought has really been stuck with me lately. Why 2004 Christmas season with the almost sudden bleeping of the word Christmas?
Then this unbeliveable earthquake?
It has sure made me sit up and think about such things! Be like the 10 wise virgins, and be alert!

We had ice on the birdbath last night in Tempe, az! really, about 1/4 inch thick.
Woodstock was playing hockey on it!
Now they say rain for Tues/Wed.

It is expensive to install, so my husband might try his hand at it..but I have some ppl telling me not to get it..the kids are going to break everything on it..then I have others that say they love it. I dont care for vinyl..hard to clean, looses its shine. I like the tile..and as far as it being cold...wear socks!
We have it already in the foyer and bathrooms. I am really thinking of getting it in the kitchen, breakfast room and utility.

December 27, 2004 - Msg 26004: Alyce, I had tile installed in my kitchen, breakfast area and utility room about four years ago, after 26 years of vinyl. I just love it! Yes, if you drop a dish, it will definitely break, but it probably would if you dropped it on vinyl. I don't have to worry about the casters on chairs cutting into it, or someone's high heeled shoe poking a hole. A dropped knife doesn't cut it. One caution - DO seal the grout. It's time-consuming, painting that sealer on the grout lines with a tiny little brush, and you should do two applications, but it's worth it. Most spills won't stain the tile, but will stain the grout, unless you seal it. As for it being cold, that hasn't been a problem to me, and I go barefoot most of the time at home. If my feet do get cold, I just do as you say, and wear socks! They got cold on the vinyl sometimes, too. I say go for it, I think you'll love it.

To Dave Engle, I think probably none of us know who you are or what you're talking about, but if you're the one who was filling the site with the long, boring sports statistics, I can only suggest that you find a different site on which to "say your piece." If you're truly an Andy Griffith Show fan, and you have something to say that relates to the show, or if you wish to be like Ed Sawyer and make Mayberry your home town, then you would be welcome. Just remember that Ed studied the town and the people for a while, and tried to learn something about them before he moved in. We're not unfriendly, but we've encountered some very unpleasant people in the past, and we're a bit careful. Our own Floyd, who monitors the porch, works very hard to keep it as a friendly, clean and pleasant place for Mayberry-oriented people to gather and visit.

I stayed up mighty late last night folding clothes and watching my TAGS DVD...I watched the one about Ed Sawyer...I have never seen that one..Its very nice to "catch up". I am enjoying them so much.

Thanks Ro and Mrs. Wiley for the tips! I think I am going to GO FOR IT..unless of course there is a major financial obstacle...cause that stuff isnt cheap! But I have a beautiful new home and I want the best for it. I am quite excited about my new house!...cant ya tell ;-)

Well, I made it! I actually got back Sunday night but yesterday we went to my parents for our "second" Christmas. We watched some old home movies that were put on dvd on the new dvd/video player we all chipped in a bought my Mom. We thought it was about time she got into the modern age and got rid of her Beta-max. Nah, just kidding, she didn't have Beta. But she had been wanting a dvd player so she could watch things like those home movies. I love those old home movies; you get to see what the world looked like before developers ruined it all. These particular movies were from the 50's. I loved the cars that were driving around!:)
Then we(well, the kids actually) busted open a pinata that my Mom had originally made for Kai's birthday in Sept, but we never used because we went to Chuck E. Cheese then. So the kids busted it open and got some hard candy, like tootsie rolls, gum, etc.;)

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

Hey Romeena, I know what you mean about those Jack Russell terriers. My Sister-in-law had two of them bouncing off the walls at one point. She got rid of one. I guess one tornado per household is enough.

Alyce, the installer of our tile earlier this year had a spray grout sealer!! It worked great!
It dried right on the tile too with no residue!
I bben there and done the brush on too, and it aint no picnic! Unless your hubby has done install before, I suggest a pro. Just my opinion.
Layout, cuttting etc go better.

Also, I think we touched on this a long time ago, but, I saw where Time/Life is offering all of the "Hee Haw" shows on a dvd. I grew up watching it...it was SO corny & stupid that I found it funny. December 28, 2004 - Msg 26030: MDC- it was filmed in Roslyn, Washington. Not sure where that is exactly. My father may know, he worked at the Jolly Green Giant factory in Washington state one summer. (between his sophmore and junior years at Furman University). I can't imagine traveling cross country for a summer job at a cannery...I think a big part of it was the adventure of traveling.Pipeman- that meal sounds great! I'll bring some Pepper Sauce (to share with Ro) for those greens . It's a nice departure from left over turkey, dressing, etc., lol.

December 28, 2004 - Msg 26032: Weather here is pretty good, pipeman, all things considered. It's about 38 degrees so that is like a heat-wave after what we have been getting. I even dropped the Kai off at my mom's and went for a bike ride in the slushy streets!
You have four 8-track players?! Wow! 8-tracks were cool, in their day. The thing I hated about them was when the thing would change tracks in the middle of my favorite song(I don't know why those things didn't last longer ;) ).

Don't really get into Hee Haw but I remember watching it sometimes when my parents would be watching it.

His response to Alyce in #26108 implies that he did not post the lengthy sports statistics and the other messages that were removed. I've checked the page source, and it indicates that all those "message removed" entries were posted from the same computer, so if he doesn't know what the sports thing is, he evidently is claiming he didn't post any of the others, either. So - to finally get to my question - what DID he post, and evidently feels that we have ignored? Mr. Engle, we would be very happy to have you as part of our Mayberry group, if that's really what you want. Anyone who has been a TAGS fan for forty years has to be a good person, and we'd like to get to know you. If you will tell us exactly what we've done, or not done, that has offended you, perhaps we can make it right.

You say you have no idea what Alyce was talking about, so I'll tell you. Someone posted a very long, totally unrelated series of sports statistics, rather like a Senate filibuster, just filling space. It was unsigned. There were several other messages that our friend Floyd deleted which I never saw - perhaps other porchsters did, but usually when Floyd removes something, it's because the content was not in keeping with the gentle spirit of this porch. If you were not the mysterious poster, then please tell us what your problem is and we'll try to make it right with you. We've got some pretty smart folks here, but no mind readers, to the best of my knowledge. The ball is now in your court. As for me, "tick-a-lock."

December 28, 2004 - Msg 26044: Ok, here is the recipe..I read similar recipies and then just conc-octed this one myself. It says to use tenders and two cans of soup..tonight I made do with what I had and used 3 chicken brea sts and 1 can of soup.

Ritzie Chicken Tenders

About 15 chicken tenderloins, boiled
2 cans cream of chicken soup
8 oz sour cream
salt and pepper
1 sleeve of Ritz crackers

Place chicken tenders in casserole dish, mix soup and sour cream. Sprinkle in salt and pepper. Pour over chicken. Crush, by hands, crackers over the chicken mixture.
Bake 350 for 30-35 minutes.

I use boneless, skinless chicken tenders..Tyson brand.

You can serve the chicken dish over rice if you like. I have not..tonight I accompanied it with candied yams, green peas, crescent rolls with cranberry orange butter (that was good too, first time I had made it). I have served corn and peas too with this dish. But whatever you feel like is fine!.. Rice does sound good!

Well looks like my oldest has fallen asleep on the couch..guess I will go and clean out her toy box...boocoos of happy meal toys in there I am sure! Taking a big trash bag with me!

For my part, Dave Engle, I think that would be a right good handle for you. I always liked that name, and liked the character, too. In the event that our original Mr. McBeevee returns and wants his name back (unlikely), why you could just put a "poo" on the end to make it your special name.
