Best snack I know of is pouring one of those little bags of salted peanuts right down into your Pepsi. It's best to use Pepsi in the glass bottle, which is hard to find these days. Also, please throw a little prayer my way for Friday. I have a huge meeting with a major food distributor. I have to do a presentation in front of about 200 sales reps. I'm not so much nervous as I am excited. If all goes well, our little sauce company will take off. But keep it quite, Possum works for a rival company. (just kiddin you Possum!).

I, fun girl, was born in Georgia, but we moved to Indiana when I was 5 years old. My grandmother was born and raised in Georgia and was the ultimate southern cook. My dad used to tease us and say that when we were little and milk wasn't satisfying to us, they'd put a little butter bean soup in our bottles.
I live in Indiana now. Have off and on since I was five. Love it here in the hoosier heartland. It's good to hear from Dixie. She was gone for a while and then I was. Glad both of us are back.
For those of you are new, or relatively new,
I had spinal fusion surgery December of 2002. Then two weeks after the doctor released me to drive, I was in a car accident. The spinal surgery was rough going, but the accident was icing on the cake. Things are much better now. I just have some nerve problems on the right side. My doctor is wonderful. He is a pain management specialist. I have had steroid injections before, but this is gonna be an epidural nerve block and steroids. I had an epidural when I had my son and it really wasn't bad at all. Prayers that I won't get too nervous and my blood pressure spike. Sometimes stress does that to me.

And speaking of books, I collect the Miss Julia series of books I mentioned here before. I would love to have a first edition of TKAM signed by Harper Lee. I collect roosters in my kitchen, have been for years and years and years, and now they are all the rage! I also collect snowmen for Christmas, have done that for years and years and years, and now THAT'S all the rage, too! In my family room I have animals, all North American, like buffaloes, moose, deer, elk, foxes, eagles, horses, etc. The family room also has a red, white, and blue thing going, and that's been that way for years! My strangest collection has to be my cards. I have every card I have ever received since I was 12 years old! I can't seem to bring myself to throwing them away, so I have boxes and boxes of cards now! Some of them are pretty cool, because they have that "vintage" look, (ugh, am I THAT old?!) and some are from dear friends who have gone on to be with the Lord, so they are all pretty special to me. I guess I am a collector!!
God's blessings be with you Rev. Jr. I sure hope your presentation goes well, and you find great success!

veterans day tribute- author unknown--- IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE SOLDIER it is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press. it is the soldier, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech. it is the sodier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag. who allows the protester to burn the flag... on this veteran day it is my opion that it's the soldiers and their families who gave their lives for our freedoms. the families left at home struggling for daily survival that are the real heroes. we who survive are just a reminder of our comrades, their families, children that never knew their dads or moms who served and didn't return. we must continue even today in iraq to carry the hopes and dreams that the fallen ones will never see and pray for the families who are left behind. that is the mission we gladly accept. if children could be taught thru role playing that both our side and the average enemy are carrying out a mission that they didnot ask for, and they have families who care too, maybe just maybe when they lead the world conflict resolution will find a better way to be resolved. god bless each of you. pipeman

possum, I can relate about poor Laci getting stuck. I can remember when they did the ct scan to find out about Kyle's hearing, the poor baby just cried and I thought I was gonna faint. Luckily my sister was there and she stayed with him in the room. She told us later that he kept saying, "Cia, pray to Jesus it doesn't hurt." (Cia is how he heard and said Lisa.) Still brings tears to my eyes.
As for Rosa, whose mom happens to be that same "Cia" I don't know what they are doing. I know that Lisa works in NICU with preemies every day and they do have a tendency to be small for a while, but eventually they do catch up. Does Laci like to eat? Rosa sure does. She is a butterball, no doubt about it. But her dad is about 6'3" and not a small man at all. Mom is a little on the heavy side. (Runs in the family, I guess cause there's only one really small person in our family...and I'm thinking there's something behind it if ya know what I mean.)

Pipeman - That's a good size layout for N scale!
There is a place here called Roy's Train World where i buy, sell, trade my rolling stock, and it is kinda like a Floyd's barber shop! Guys sit around and talk train talk etc. Any such a thing up Lincoln way?
Maybe the new mayor could declare a model RR day!
Asa, I think one of HM's boys is getting the tonsilectomy as I recall her earlier post about it.
You all have a wonderful weekend!
4 days to go to the first season!!
Who will be the first on the porch to receive it!

Hi everyone..Been busy here, just checking in.
I scanned the posts some..Hope Little Laci is doing well.
All the preemies I have known, end up growing big!
Boo: I like those Gooseberry Patch cook books too. I have never heard of that candle..and I love Yankee, I'll have to look into it.
As for collections..that is pretty much what I collect..cookbooks, of any kind. And a little dust from time to time ;-)
Boo: Sean is a tiny thing, isnt he?
Isnt 48 inches 4 ft? My not quite 4 year old is probably 41 or 42 inches. She is tall. And the 1 year old will be taller, as she was 32.5 inches the other day at the doctor. And almost 26 lbs.!
Well I hope everyone has a great weekend.
I have a Pampered Chef party this morning to attend, then its my baby's 1st birthday party tonight!

Yep Alyce, in my family we start out shrimpy and then get tall all of a sudden some time in adolescence. I have two brothers who were made fun of in grade school for being tiny and now they are each about 6'2 or 3. Late bloomers, they call us. Check into those candles. I learned about them from a friend who grew up in Arizona where they are made. We just finally got a distributor in my area so you may have trouble finding them. I used to have to order them. They smell so great, though and are the strongest I have found anywhere and they have a huge selection of scents. I have Holiday Wreath right now and it smells wonderful. Sugar Cookie is very good, too. I was just outside and it is 50 degrees with a brisk North wind. I can't believe it, I am so excited! I think I'll pull out some of my GBP cookbooks and try to decide what to make for the church Thanksgiving dinner that's coming up.
I think I might go relax before the kids wake up. I was awakened at 4:30am by a little blond hear peeping up from the side of my bed crying, "Mama!"....wonder what its like to get a whole night of uninterrupted sleep??

Asa - my preemie who turned into a gentle giant is having his tonsils out. At 2 we had the adnoids taken out because he had such a bad infection - looks like it just went south and attacked the tonsils. They are as big as walnuts/golfballs most of the time. He has also been labeled with asthma.
Boo - I wish he could play football. Our school district doesn't have a football team. I know that is probably shocking but it is a very small school district so they put there money into basketball and baseball. He is also not the only tall one in his class. There are two others that are in equal height - one being a girl.
Also - my brother isn't just barely 6'1" that should have been 6'3" or 6'4" - my other brother is big like that too. It's that good German blood in him!

Oh MDC, I wanted to tell you that while I was in the dr's office the other day I was reading Texas Monthly magazine and there was a whole article about ladie's "foundations"! It told about the girdles, corsetts and bullet bras ladies used to wear. The writer of the article said (speaking of those skimpy thong panties), "I wear a thong on each foot. That's what we used to call those little cheap rubber sandals.". I thought that was cute. She also talked about some pioneer woman who was saved from an indian's arrow because it couldn't penetrate her corsette! Something else that was interesting is that women's underwear were crotchless until the 1900's. They were these wrap-on pant things that were open in the crotch for convenience (for going to the bathroom)...gross! In the 1900's they put in the crotch so women could ride bikes and horses. Funny.
Better go....you can thank me later for the history lesson on "foundations".

homemaker, will your boy be having his tonsils out in your town or do you have to go to the big city to get doctored. Kyle had is tonsils and adenoids out when he was in first grade. He had strep throat that never went away for months. It would lessen with antibiotics and then return stronger than ever. We had his done at Riley Hospital.
He was up playing video games the next morning, and it feels like he hasn't stopped eating since.
Hey possum, does little Lace like Dora the Explorer? That is Rosa's absolute favorite. A couple months ago she was going D...D...D. I said, "Isn't that cute, she's trying to say daddy." Her dad laughed and said, "No, she's singing the Dora song. She does that every time it comes on."
Well, I need to run for now.

Hi porchsters, Remember me, Charlotte Tucker? I just have no time anymore to visit. That tells me life is toooo busy, don't ya think? Who was it here that emailed me a photo of their grandma holding a basket of eggs? Was that you Fun Girl? Well, I'm planning on doing a newspaper on The Farm in 2005 and would like to use that photo, but when my computer crashed, I lost it. So... if you would be so kind as to email it to me again, I'd appreciate it. If it wasn't Fun Girl, who was it? Mrs. Wiley? Also, have any of you ever had your email make 50 copies of every incoming message?? I've been deleting repeated emails all day long and I don't know what's causing it. What causes that anyway? If anyone has any insight, I'd be obliged. Oh and by the way, my email has changed to sharonkt@interl.net . Mavis, could you please change it on the Cutlass? Fun girl's isn't right either--I couldn't get hers to go through.

Pipeman, I love to talk about Thaksgiving. I have been looking forward to cooking Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house. My sister and I have been painting and fixing up the folk's house and want to make the holidays special for them. Some of my husband's relatives might be spending the day with us, too, which would be great. I'm going to fix the turkey and dressing and some pies and my sister will do the rest, I guess. Should be a good time. My parents live kind of out in the country on a big tree-filled lot and the kids love to run around out there.
Well, got to go check my chili...smells goooood!

Hey Fun Girl,I think Laci's favorite kiddie show is Boohbahs. What ARE those things, anyway? Strange! She does watch Dora some too.By the way,Laci's home and doing well! They have some high tech credit card sized device that they (her parents) put on Laci's chest twice a week and it transmits her heart rhythm by phone to her doctors.Isn't technology something? Y'all please pray that her heart rate stays normal and all these trips to the hospital can end.By the way,can you believe someone came in her room while she was waiting to be discharged and drew blood from her by mistake? Poor thing! My son-in-law was so upset-he said thank goodness that Laci did not cry or he'd have gone berserk! Her nurse was outraged and had an incident report filed on the person.I mean, how hard is it to check the patient's name? Makes you wonder how many much bigger medical mistakes are being made-Geesh!
Oh,and prayers please for the 7 year old pregnant girl that my daughter encountered on a hospital elevator. Can you imagine?! So very very sad.
Well, guess that's it from ol' possum for now. Y'all have a wonderful day!

7 years old? I didn't know that was even possible. I did read an article in TIME magazine a few years ago about this epidemic of very young girls entering puberty and scientists are trying to figure out why. Is it the hormones in the milk and chicken or what?? They say they don't know yet but some girls are starting to grow breast and have periods by 8 or 9 and the docs are actually having to treat with with meds that block hormones to postpone puberty because these poor kids are in no way ready for it emotionally or mentally, and to think that a 7 year old, who was obviously s-xually abused would have to suffer even further by being pregnant is beyond horrible. Terrible to think we will be seeing younger children becomming pregnant. When I worked as a nurse in the labor unit the youngest I ever saw pregnant was 13 and the baby belonged to her step father, I think. We saw quite a few 15 yr olds, too but never younger than 13. I remember one case I will tell you about that I will never forget. One Saturday we received a 15 yr old girl with severe bleeding. The dr could tell that she had delivered a baby recently but she denied it. The doc finally told her that we knew she had a baby and could prove it so she needed to fess up and tell us where the baby was. It turned out that she delivered the baby alone in her bedroom and then proceeded to wrap it in a cloth and stuff it in her dresser drawer. Of course by the time the police officers found the baby it was dead. The parents said they never knew she was pregnant and when they questioned the girls teachers at school they said they never noticed, either. This is really curious when you consider the girl weighed about 90 lbs and gave birth to a full term infant. Anyway, the prosecutor wanted to make an example of the girl but whe was a minor and obviously had some problems. Anyway, it was a very anxious thing to know there was a baby out there somewhere and not be able to get the truth out of the girl.
Possum, it would be easy to get mad about someone drawing blood on the wrong child! Its a good think we don't know about all the mistakes that are made in a clinical setting. Mistakes have to happen because of human error but mistakes like that should never happen because, just as you said, the name band should always be checked befor any invasive procerdure or administration of medication. This simple step would stop ALOT of misshaps. Once, when my dad was in the hospital, a nurse almost administered blood to him that was supposed to be given to the patient in the next bed. Luckily my mom was there and questioned it...whew! Now, having said that and in defense of my own profession, there are so many more good and helpful (even life-saving) things being done for people that we should keep that in mind. Always be alert, though, and ask questions...knowledge is the best way to protect yourself.
Ok, ok, I am through lecturing. I sure have been wordy lately.
Well, got to go get my wild little 3 yr old to bed. Man, is she a handful for this 42 yr old mother! Good night and God's grace and richest blessing to each of you.
