August 06, 2004 - Msg 22726: Mavis,
I have a friend that had a brain aneurism the day after I got married. That is going to be 15 years next month! The good news is, she is alive and doing very well. It was pretty rough going for her at first, but today she is active, healthy and able to be a mom to her two grown girls. I will pray the same outcome for your mother. So take hope with you, and we will all send our prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.

Mary Wiggins

August 06, 2004 - Msg 22727: Hi Mavis, glad to see you but so sorry to hear about your Mother. My prayers will go up for her and for your family. You just stay close to her in the hospital and I'll worry about trimming Asa's ears.

August 06, 2004 - Msg 22728: Prayers for mavis' mom and all on the porch.
These are trying times, that is for sure.
But we all know how good tags deals with the subject of praying!!!
Glad we can still enjoy a quote or two.
That's what we need a good quote-a-thon!
(Actually, I guess ya all really started one already!)
My favorite is the scene when all the guys
are in the barbershop and Barbara Eden gets off the bus, and they are oggling over her as they look out the window:
Barn: Ring-a-ding-ding
Mayor: Now that's what I call a female.
Floyd: Yeah, that's a female all right, right Andy?
Andy: Yup, that's definitely not a boy!

Then she starts to walk toward the barbershop and they all start scurrying around to act "natural" when she comes in. Always cracks me up.
Ya all have a fine mayberry day.
If spot dont show up, come on over to our place for grilled burgers tonight and all the fixins!
Get to preachin this Sunday!

August 06, 2004 - Msg 22730: MDC my favorite quote from that show is when Andy says "Nature's been real, real good to you. I don't believe I can remember when nature spent so much time on one person." lol that's a good show! Come to think of it they are all pretty good!

Then there's the old stand by "Nip it!Nip it in the bud!"or "That there is what you call a hand wahsin' complesion."

I gotta go everyone have a good weekend;)

I think I'll step out and walk off the burgers.

My favorite movies tend to be the ones with historical significance. I really like Braveheart, Dances With Wolves, The Passion of The Christ, movies about the Civil War, etc...the ones that kind of inspire you to greatness and courage. I liked Radio alot because it was a true story and so inspiring, wasn't it? There was a really terrific movie that came out several years ago and I just cannot remember the name of it. Maybe you all can help me. It starred Anthony Hopkins and the t-tle was the name of a famous ship used in slave trade. It was based on a true story about some Africans who were taken as slaves and then allowed to return to their home. Does anyone remember the name of it?

Better go, my little girl just relieved herself on the floor in the foyer!

The biggest tearjerker for me growing up was "Brian's Song" - it was remade several years ago but I just love the original.

Been a busy day today - finished getting backpacks for school (Yu-Gi-Oh and Orange County Choppers) and a new electric pencil sharpener.

Boo, I recently purchased "The Great Escape" that came out in the 60's with Steve Mqueen, James garner and others. It's a true story and shows the grit of our men during WWII.
Anyone seen Charlotte Tucker?
I saw the Darlings are Coming last night locally
Love it when Briscoe says :
"Let's play 'Tear Up Your Old Clothes for Rags."
Then while their playing, Charlene puts her foot on Andy's knee and he sort of rolls his eyes.
It's priceless!
Later she chases Andy around the courthouse and Andy says,
"Charlene, I'm old enough to be your father!"

"You sure been beautiful preserved!"
Such a classic scene!

I've been reading the posts and I must say I've seen the YaYa Sisterhood, The Notebook(**sniff**), and I own Steel Magnolias. They are all wonderfull movies but Steel Magnolias is my favorite beacause it has a great mixture of comedy and drama (and Dolly is my favorite).

If any of you ladys would like to see a good Chick flick I would suggest:
Return to Me (Minnie Driver & David Duchovny)
Never Been Kissed (Drew Barrymoore)
Ever After (Drew again)
You've Got Mail (Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks)
Sleepless in Seatle (ditto)
A Walk to Remember (Mandy Moore and oh so good!)
Miss Congeniality (Sandra Bullock...great!)
Sweet Home Alabama (Reese Witherspoon)
Father of the Bride (Steve Martin...love it)
Father of the Bride II (ditto)

gosh.... I could go on and on..... I love these movies. All of them are good. Watch them if you have a chance.

I lost my mother 6 1/2 years ago, and my sympathy for you couldn't be greater. Take time to take care of yourself during these next few days, we will all be thinking of you here on the porch.

Boo, Happy Birthday to your little three year old! Every year she grows, hopefully she will grow out of her mischievousness! She must be a darling...

It's a pretty day on my end of the porch. Temps have been running a little cooler than normal, but that's okay with me! I prefer the fall to any other season.

Prayers continue for you Mavis, we love you...

When does Romeena get back? I expect it must be some day next week. I can't wait to hear about her adventures. She has such a way with turning a phrase, she should have been a writer!

I thought I would fix up some scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages, pancakes, and a nice tall glass of ice cold, fresh squeezed Florida orange juice, and of course... a tear from the roll of paper towels!

Have a wonderful day all!

Alyce I'm just a backwards kind of person :P. I should read The Notebook now. I haven't seen Message in a Bottle. What is it about? Oh! I wanted to ask you if you had ever read any of Janette Oke's books? She's a Christian Author from Canada. She's good. I love her books especially Roses for Mama. I read it about twice a year and have since I was still in Highschool. I have never read a book of hers that I didn't like. I also LOVE mysteries. I used to read Nancy Drew all the time but now I read Mary Higgins Clark. I'll read her books more than once too!

Alyce, you are funny! Dirty Dancing! That's one I didn't really get into and I was 16 when Grease came out and I remember going to see it for the first time. Boy, I lauhged when John Travolta sang, "Stranded at the drive-in. Branded a fool...". I think you would have to tie me up and shove bamboo shoots under my fingernails to get me to watch it now! It is one of those movies that you either love or hate and I know lots of folks who love it.

My baby girl's birthday was a success and she loved it. She is thrilled to be three years old.

Think I'll brush my teeth and go to bed (yawn). Nighty-night!

I had to chuckled at your post about our age difference and that's probably exactly why our tastes in movies are different because mine were more like yours at your age. Hope you don't get old and boring like me when your 42! hehe

Prayers for Laci. Please keep us posted as soon as you can on her condition after surgery. I know its very scary to think of her having this kind of surgery but from what I understand, this type of heart defect is very "fixable". Hang in there, Honey! The Lord is so big and so able to take care of that sweet, precious baby girl.

Dixie, how neat that you got to see the president. His ranch in Crawford is very near some of my relatives who are craftsmen. They helped to build and help to upkeep the house there at the ranch. They say Bush is a nice fellow. They all have pictures of themselves with Bush and his wife, kind of funny really. My dad absolutely despises Bush and when we visit my relatives, he hides the pictures of Bush when he finds them around their house! What an old grouch.

Mrs. Wiley, wish I was there to help you! Call one of your neighbors to give you a hand, I'm sure they won't mind. Please be careful. Prayers for your safety.

August 11, 2004 - Msg 22846: Ha, Alyce you almost got in trouble over something I said, didn't ya?! Homemaker may not be old and boring at 42 but I am (just ask my husband). As far as the beach goes, unfortunately the beach here is not as nice as in Florida or the East or West coast because it is the Gulf of Mexico and the water is not the beautiful blue or green. It looks kind of muddy most of the time and there are so many off-shore oil rigs in the gulf that alot of tar washes up on the beach, too. Its a real shame. If our beaches were like the ones I have seen other places I would visit them more often. We also get plagued with red tides and these little things called sea mites that really bite when you are in the water. I actually prefer the beach in the cool months of the year, to just walk or sit and watch the sunsets. You know, I grew up here on the coast but the first time I saw the West coast I cried it was so beautiful with the majestic cliffs and the waves. Awesome!

Now Charlotte, I never saw anyone in a white shirt with red flowers. I guess I didn't get past the squirrels! I'll have to look again. As for the "slow down" advice, I have no idea or I would be doing it. With an active toddler and a son with learning disabilities that I homeschool, and elderly parents who need my help, and a wonderful husband who does absolutely no housework, I seldom slow down for long but I will say that coming to the porch often helps me alot. Its one of the only things I do just for me. I also like to talk on the phone daily to my sister and a couple of friends. My husband hates it but, hey, I do things for everyone else all day and I deserve to do a couple of things for myself, afterall, I can't even get a shower without a certain little three yr old popping her head in and asking for something! Can you moms relate? Do I hear an "Amen"?

Well, speaking of..I need to go pick up her little birthday toys while she is napping. Have a terrific evening!
