Hey, anybody out here? "I just fell awake", so thought I'd come sit out here for a spell. Air's nice and cool, and it's kinda fun watching the sprinkler system go through its paces. My landscaper friend did a good job.
I bought one more rose bush yesterday. I know, I know, where am I gonna put another rose bush? Well, we'll just have to find a place, because this thing has the most beautiful blooms you ever saw. It's called "Pink Peace", the roses are gorgeous and the fragrance is the richest, heaviest fragrance of any rose I've ever seen. I thought Mr. Lincoln was extraordinary, and it is, but this Pink Peace is powerful. My garden center neighbor had found it stuck back in some leftovers from last year, and it was blooming. He cut the blooms and had them up front on the checkout desk, and I saw them. I was impressed to say the least, and asked for that specific bush. He got it for me, deep-discounted it, and I brought it home. Gonna find it a prominent place in the garden, I think it may well become the centerpiece of all my roses. Spot, when it blooms again, I'll send you a bouquet to put on the table with one of your wonderful meals. Pipeman, I might call on you and the brown truck to get those roses over to him, if you don't mind.
Mavis, I don't know how you're going to get that tomato stain out of that blouse. I guess just soak it, soak it a lot! Asa, I declare! You should give a girl a little more warning! Don't you heave one of those things at me! I'd be wearing it for sure - I can't catch a cold, let alone something somebody throws at me. That's why I don't play on the ball team, I'd get hit in the face for sure. I'm much better at working with the refreshments. BTW, are we gonna have a team this year? The Plum wants to know, so she can start building up her cart-pulling muscles. Also, she's worried that her mascot costume might not fit, she needs to lose a few ounces.
Well, I'm getting sleepy again, guess I'll try for a couple more hours of sleep. Have a nice day, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
April 19, 2004 - Msg 20967:
Good morning Porchpals! Ro, that Pink Peace sounds lovely! I really love roses and would like to have some nice varieties in my yard (if they can handle the heat). I'd like to think landscaping will start this fall... but someone's draging their feet about getting an architect for our new bedroom. No sense fixing the yard up only to have it trashed by construction workers. Today is me and Big Jeff's 1st anniversary! He gave me a gold-dipped rose. He's a keeper! He's still asleep so I haven't given him his gift(s) yet. Went to a costume store and got him a gold crown - complete with precious (glass) jewels. Like Mel Brooks says: "It's good to be the King."Guess it's been a month of Sundays since I've cooked (thank you SPOT!!), so I'll give it a whirl: Eggs your way, bacon, sausage links, toast/biscuits, grits, gravy, juice...coffee's simmering.
Hey to Sugarplum and Barney from Max... he's almost completely recovered and we THANK YOU ALL for your prayers. Max would say hey to all the goats too, but he's never seen dogs with horns before. :-)

Thank you for the rose, MDC. One just cannot have too many roses. Homemaker, please forgive me. I clean forgot to tell you about the flea market. I would imagine that you mean the one at Canton, as it's about the biggest one I know of around here. It's located east of Dallas, almost to Tyler. It's open on the weekend before the first Monday of every month. It sorta runs over onto the Monday as well, but usually most of the vendors are packing up and leaving on Monday. It starts on Friday, is in full swing on Saturday and Sunday, and winds up on Monday. It covers acres and acres, and you just can't see it all in one day.
Hey, Asa! How is that little old Barney, anyway? I'll bet he's growing right up, too fast. I have a new grandpuppy, one of my daughters just got a little Jack Russell/Fox Terrier mix, named her Maisy, and from what I hear, she's a little dynamo. I'll meet her this weekend, going down to Fredericksburg.

Hi again everyone. And thanks a lot for the BIG Welcome! Seems like hospitality is a thing that you run into fewer times and further apart now these days (at least down here in Palm Beach). Heck, when I married my wife (who is from down here) and went to take her back home for a visit for the first time, she was amazed at how everyone waved at ya when driving past, whether they knew ya or not. She also got a kick out of the fact that my home town didn't have a single stop light, and how the sidewalks "rolled up" at 8:00 in the eve. Boy, I sure do miss that place sometimes. Perhaps I'll move back someday. Just might run for Sheriff.... Or Police Chief in the case of my home town. I'd tell ya all the name of the town, but I'm afraid the word would get out, and by the time I got back there, the population would have grown exponentially. Just kidding of course.... There are NO jobs to be found around those parts.
Thanks for the help on the TAGS Video/DVD issue everyone. I do already have the 16 episodes spoken of on DVD. Can't wait until they release more.

April 22, 2004 - Msg 21039:
# 21038, I don't believe there was ever such an episode. There was an episode where Barney got mad when the paper spelled his name wrong. It went something like this: Barney: "My name is F-I-F-E; for the third time you've printed F-I-K-E. You're a newspaper man, you'd think you could spell." I wonder if you are getting the ep mixed up with the one where "Five" was engraved on his watch?

Howdy, friends. Just checking in, worked a couple of nights this week, so have been away from the porch. Tomorrow the Plum and I are heading for Fredericksburg (TX) to visit my daughters and grandsons, so in case anybody misses us, you'll know where we are. The bluebonnets should be in full bloom, should be a real pretty drive. There's just nothing like the bluebonnets in Texas in April! When they're full and thick, as they usually are, and sprinkled with Indian paintbrush, coreopsis, wild primrose, winecups, firewheel and black-eyed Susans, well, it's just a picture no artist can paint, though many have tried!
We Texans are very proud and fond of our bluebonnets. They're the state flower, and they truly are spectacular every spring. Everyone looks forward to their appearance, and people go out on weekends and drive on the country roads, looking for the most beautiful displays. All of this makes me wonder about other states. How about it, porchsters? What's the favorite flower where you are? Would you tell us about them?
Well, guess I'll turn in. We plan to get an early start, so guess I'd better get some sleep. I'll be driving, as the Plum doesn't have a license, and besides, she's too short to see over the dash anyway. Have a lovely weekend, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Here's my Waffle House counter story: when I was moving to Fla (12 yrs ago), I didn't have any money or any friends willing to help me load my U-haul. I boxed and loaded all that I could but the big stuff was impossible for me to move. So came the day to leave and I still had no help. It was raining. I decided to throw caution to the wind and went to the local WH to try to find someone who needed a few extra $$. WH was packed and the only place to sit was the counter - 1 seat left. So I ordered b'fast and struck up a conversation with the folks next to me. GA folks are always friendly - right Spot? The guy on my right was old and the guy on my left couldn't work his job in the rain, so he agreed to help me! He loaded my heavy stuff and I gave him $20 (which he returned) and all the food from my icebox. After he left, I loaded up the car, hitched it onto the U-haul and off I went on my adventure. I was so proud of myself for handling the situation and not crying about it.Moral of the story: folks who eat at WH are usually OK people.
