April 14, 2004 - Msg 20857: I loved the quotes to end the last page! Keep 'em coming, I am not so good at remembering them, but I sure do love reading them! I guess my quote would be "Barney!". You know, the way Andy says it when he's frustrated with Barney.

My computer has been running so slow lately, someone recommended I defragment it. I have had this computer for a few years now, and I never did that. It took over 12 hours! It still isn't running right, though. Very Frustrating. Any computer wizards out there with suggestions?

It still is cold around here, and I think I have had just about enough of that!

Romeena, I loved your post about our country, amen to that!

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20858: 'Morning, folks! Mary Wiggins, you might try going through your internet options and cleaning out your temporary internet files. The procedure is different on different machines and with different ISPs, but just poke around in your tools and you'll find it. It can make a difference. Also, be sure you don't have too many programs running in the background - maybe some you don't really need.

I really hope those two slightly questionable posts above weren't written by the interlopers, because they were written by someone who signs as one of us. Of course, they could be pirating the name, too. Time will tell.

OK, ready for this one? One of my 2 nephews is a squadron leader on a carrier. They review landings by watching videos of the landings in their quarters. Another leader knocked on his door and caught him watching THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW video that I had sent him! It was quite a to-do! Now the tape is making its way around the ship! Is that too much?! It's a ten episode tape that I bought, so its got epilogues and everthang! He told me he uses it to unwind a bit, as you can imagine, landing on a carrier is like landing on a moving pinhead!
Well, guess I'll add some quotes:
Andy: Let's record a few bars of "Aint Got Time to Kiss You Now, My Mule's Run Away!"

Opie: What's wrong with her pa (As girl parades thru the livingroom for the beauty contest)

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20864: Hey all,
does anyone have or know anything about Yorkshire Terriers? We are going to look at one tonight from one of my wife's co-workers whose dog had puppies. I'm a little skeptical about getting it but I always am. One thing that concerns me is that this is the only puppy left because all the other ones(I think there were four in all) died for various reasons. The owners of the parents are not dog breeders(I think); they just happened to have these puppies. They did say that the puppy is a registered AKC, for as much as that means.
I've done some researching on the internet about what to look for but I thought I would ask if anyone has some more direct experience with these dogs.
I'm against buying a dog in the first place, but my wife as been asking for one for a long time and I know these Yorkies are generally good for allergy sufferers(which my wife is) so I thought we can at least look at them.

BTW, I had the same feeling as others about messages 20847&48. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though, I don't think this person has many friends. Sad.
-Sterling Holobyte

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20865: Just as a note. 20847 & 48 were posted by a user using AOL on Dial-up. He/they might be the same "interloper" which is now using an AOL account to get to us. I DO know the original information and know that the interloper is a Comcast Cable modem user in MI. I can contact his/her provider if this situation continues but lets hope that it doesn't.

--Allan

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20866: Sterling, I had a Yorkie (so his papers said) for 16 years, and he was a sweetheart. He was big for a Yorkie, about 12 pounds and had some other traits that made me think he might have had some Silky terrier mixed in - they look a lot alike, but Silkies are bigger. You have to remember that AKC papers are only as good as the integrity of the person who applied for them. When the application is sent in, the applicant can put down any dog on which they hold papers, while the actual sire may be another dog in the household, or the neighborhood for that matter. I had a friend whose hightone, lovely little registered Dachsund produced a litter of five pups. Two were perfect little Doxies, the product of a controlled breeding, and three had curly hair and white markings, and looked a great deal like the little white poodle next door. Enterprising little fellow, that poodle. A litter can, of course, have more than one sire.
The best way to avoid a problem is to buy from a known, reputable breeder who stands to lose face if they sell a puppy that's not up to the breed standard. Backyard breeders are pretty dicey. The pup may be everything it's said to be, or it may not.
Next question is whether that really matters. I loved my little Buckwheat, whether he was purebred or not, I really didn't care. He was given to me, so I wasn't out a high price for a purebred puppy, so it just didn't matter. There are breed-specific rescue organizations, by the way, and you can find them on the internet. I know someone who got a lovely little beagle that way.

Hope that helps -- Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20867: One more thing, Sterling, If your wife really wants a Yorkie puppy, and if price is a consideration, many reputable breeders will sell "pet quality" puppies at a significant discount. They grade their puppies, and ask more for the ones they feel have show-ring potential. The others are fine pups, only a judge would note the differences, but they will cost less, and the breeder will often make a notation on the papers that would keep them from being used as breeders. Many also ask that you sign something stating you will have the dog neutered or spayed. This is one way that good breeders try to maintain the purity and high standards of their particular breed. We paid a little less for the Plum because her front teeth don't scissor perfectly, which I think is cute, and we planned to spay her anyway, so it wasn't a problem. Well, that's another thought, just FYI. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20868: Thanks Romeena! Yeah, I'm not really concerned about whether it is really purebred or not. What concerns me more is how healthy it is or isn't(aka possible high vet bills) and it's disposition around my daughter and around the house in general. I read that Yorkies weren't good to have around small children, mainly because they are a toy breed and can be injured or killed quite easily and also because, depending on their personality, if they are over-handled by the kids they can get snappy.(not to be confused with Snappy Lunch.) :)
-Sterling Holobyte

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20869: About your last post Romeena, yes price is a consideration. The owner is going to sell it to us for $200 because she knows my wife. She said she is going to sell for a higher amount to others. Is that a good price you think? Anything over Free is too much for me, but what are you going to do?! :)

-Sterling Holobyte

April 14, 2004 - Msg 20872: Hey Sterling one of the best places to find info on any kind of dog is www.akc.org they have a wealth of info on their site. If the babies all died very young, it could be due to the size of the mother, if she is true Yorkie size, 4 puppies is alot for her! If they died after they got older (4-6 weeks), you might want to check into whether they have been wormed, had vaccinations and such & if the mother has had all those things as well. But check that site out & see what all they have.

About that, we saw the puppy and his parents yesterday. Cute, but what puppies aren't cute?! Actually they all had pretty good dispositions from what I could tell. It's getting harder to argue against adopting it and getting a cat instead, and Lord knows I've tried. :) The only problem is, since my wife is allergic to most dogs and cats, she would need a cat that is less allergenic, and I understand those are the more exotic cats and thus more expensive. Like, if this cat were a car it would be a ferrari compared to a regular cat, or the automotive equivalent being a Dodge Dart.

Another of my favorite quotes from TAGS is Floyd's,"You know who said that...my latin teacher in barber college."

I took 4 semesters of Latin when I was in college and I'll bet ya a cold pop I used that quote at least 20 times.

Mary, no I haven't seen "How to Frame a Figg." To tell ya the truth I forgot about that one. I'll have to check it out.

Goober, I had to hold my nose when I voted for GW. I've been a registered Conservative for about 25 years and he was not what I was hoping for. How wrong I was. I think somehow someway history has it's own method of matching up men for their time like Churchill in the 1940s and Lincoln in the 1860s.

April 16, 2004 - Msg 20924: Evening porch. Just wanted to unload a little on you guys, ya'll have great big shoulders to cry on. I had to attend a funeral today of a very dear friend of mine & it has really taken alot out of me. Brenda was 42, our fiddle player's wife of just over a year. She leaves behind 2 precious boys, 13 & 6. She was told she had brain cancer about 2 months ago & we were all devastated. The worst part of it all, the boys lost their dad 3 years ago to the same thing & adding to that, she passed away on her oldest son's birthday. I was doing ok holding it together today until the 6 year old started crying and asking for his Mama, & I lost it. Brenda was such a wonderful, precious soul & I will miss her terribly. Please keep her husband & those precious boys in your prayers. I know I don't ever want to go thru anything like this again anytime soon. Heartbreaking day to say the least. Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders. Feels good to get some of it off my chest without crying so hard. My eyes are swollen & I have a pretty bad migraine caused I'm sure from all the crying. April 17, 2004 - Msg 20931: BEWARE OF ANDY DVDS.
Hey Friends,
Jimmy the goat here. It's been a while. Well, I've had some stuff going on, so I haven't been around. I was just online, checking out some Andy DVD's, and I saw one advertised, 'brand new episodes," and it was selling for $21. So I looked at it...friends its the same episodes that are already out there. There's a ton of TAGS dvds out there, but if you look, they've all got the same episodes, like Loaded Goat, Andy Discovers America, Barney's First Car, and Dogs, Dogs, Dogs. Well the DVD I looked at, had the episodes listed under other names. For instance, they call "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs," by the name "Dog Gone Opie," and "The English Butler." So the episodes aren't even listed by their correct names. To me, thats unprofessional, and I'd stay clear. I have to wonder what kind of quality they are. And let me tell you, I've gone through 2 different Andy DVD's, and the pic quality on them wasn't as good as my VHS. Believe me, I learned the hard way. THE BEST TAGS DVDS are available at Weavers, or at any of the shops in Mt.Airy, NC. The very best TAGS DVD as far as picture quality and theme music (thats right, some of the TAGS DVDS, don't have the theme music, but some instrumental version of it), but the very best I think is the one with Barney on the cover, with a big number 16 (16 episodes) in the corner, available at Weavers. Hope this helps. Have a Mayberry Day, ya'll.

April 18, 2004 - Msg 20957: Welcome, Les Bell. We hope you feel at home here and will sit and visit with us often. This is an expandable porch - whenever we need to add a rocker or two, why we just push the sides out a bit, and everybody fits!

Spot, I declare I can't even read your posts without my blood sugar going skyward! MMMMmmMMM! It all sounds so good. Possum, I can't imagine wasting perfectly good grits by rollin around in them! Wby honey, that's a pure shame. Instead of pollutin' those grits, folks should be eatin' them! Ham and grits, pork chops and grits, bacon and eggs and grits, grits and grits, just nothing quite so homey and comforting as good hot grits!

Mavis, I'm so sorry about your friend, and that's just heart-breaking for those kids and the husband. Some things are just so hard to understand. I've finally learned that sanity lies in being able to cease trying to get my mind around the situation, and let the One who does understand take over and handle it. It's not easy.

Charlotte Tucker, right off I can't think of anything similar to a hosta that would tolerate that much sun, but a lovely plant that loves sun is a day lily. There are a zillion varieties, check out www.waysidegardens.com. One that I have a little experience with is "Stella D'Oro". It's not a particularly spectacular flower, but it's prolific, producing very pretty golden colored lilies for about 8-9 months out of the year, the graceful green fountain of foliage is very nice, and it loves the sun. Check Wayside's zone chart for the plant's hardiness in your zone.
Rob was here for a couple of days, and we had a nice visit. We went to a concert by the Vocal Majority last night. Mercy, those men are good. When 150 male voices are singing in barbershop-style close harmony and you can understand every syllable, well, it's just incredible. If you ever get a chance to hear them, do it. They sing delightful oldies like "Smoke Gets in your Eyes", and "Puttin' on the Ritz", "Joshua Fit de Battle", and such. Lovely.

Well, guess I'd better go check the roses for aphids and those wretched little leaf-roller caterpillars. I just hate those things, they'll bind a whole cluster of rosebuds together, and eat the heart out of each one. Miserable pests. It seems like no matter what you plant, there's some bug or worm out there with a bib around his neck, ready to sit down to lunch. Humph! Where's Mr. Weaver when you need him? Well, no matter. I have my trusty Neem sprayer, and when all else fails, I just pull the dadburn little worm off and squash him on the ground! Eat MY roses, will he? I think not!

Have a great week, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
