March 19, 2004 - Msg 20204: Howdy friends, Just popping in to chew the fat about the TV Land awards. Gave me chills, at the begining when Andy was whistling the theme and the kids were at the foot of the stage holding fishing poles. Then they got up and Andy put his arm around a couple of them. I thought, "Those kids will never know what a wonderful person he is and what a priviledge it was to be included in that part of the show." (kinda like a family friend and awesome basketball player, who received a pyramid of success statue from John Wooden. Her mom said that one day she may realize how awesome that was, but right now, she is pretty much clueless. Coach Wooden played or coached Martinsville High School Basketball and after we won the Girls State High school championship two years running, he sent the girls the plaques. kinda shows what a neat guy he is!!

For some reason everytime something TAGS related came on I teared up. I guess it was because when you see them in person, you realize many of them will not be with us much longer. But I guess what is important is that we still have TAGS to watch and everytime we do, we will remember what a large contribution they made to our lives.

Are all classic TV fans as fervent and loyal and intense about their favorite shows as TAGS fans are?

I enjoyed Brandon Cruise singing the theme from Courtship of Eddie's father. I don't remember watching the show often, as I was pretty young, but I do remember some things about the show. Just kinda cool that they let the boy who played Eddie sing the theme.

March 19, 2004 - Msg 20206: 75 and sunny in GA... spot, that thought makes something stir in me...thoughts of that first week of warm weather, skippin school and goin down to the Chattahoochee to enjoy the good earth with my friends. I grew up in Atlanta, and there's not much better than springtime in the Big A before the pollen starts dropping. Dogwoods in bloom, daffodils popping up, green leaves all shiny and new in the tall trees.

Florida is nice, but I prefer Atlanta. Even if I sneeze my head off for 6 weeks a year up there. You a "luckydawg" spot!

Ro, how'd you lke those commercials? I was too young when they aired live to remember them. I thought that was the best part, aside from seeing our boys together again. The interview with Rance Howard (on the website) is really good too. My family moved to Atlanta in 1964 from up north. My brother didn't want to move there because they had seen the Andy Griffith show, and he was certain that Atl. was just like Mayberry and the people in it, too. Funny how now he tell's people he's From Atlanta and that he's a Southerner! haha.

My Dad, grew up in a town, not unlike Mayberry. A little,coal mining town. It's gone down in the past few years.
I wish they kept the "40 acre. back lot"(Mayberry) up at Desilu studios, and made a public park out of it. Isn't it now a tennis court? But Mount Airy, I beleive, is the closest you can get to Mayberry(when we went for Mayberry Days 2002, I found my self calling it Mayberry--OOPS!)

Someone asked about Laci's heart condition affecting her growth-what's happening is there is so much stress on her little heart that she tires easily when taking her formula-therefore she isn't gaining weight because she's not taking the amounts she needs.Lil' thing breaks out in a sweat when she's taking her "baa-baa".We will find out Tuesday if the doctors want to do surgery while she's a baby.Please continue to pray for her.Thanks-y'all are the best.

March 21, 2004 - Msg 20249: Hey, pulled out the ol' Mayberry cookbook and whipped up some of Aunt Bee's fried chicken and cream gravy. Made real mashed taters, corn on the cob and an apple pie. What was I thinking?! The whole dinner was an arterial nightmare! Sure was good, though. One of those meals that makes you feel like a kid again and my poor Mama can't cook anymore.

Watched the movie Radio tonight (with Cuba Gooding, Jr.). I thought it was very good. I give it 4 stars because it made me boo-hoo at the end (it does NOT have a sad ending, but a happy one).

Possum, I wanted to cry when you said Laci is having a tough time. I will certainly pray for the sweet baby. I know the Lord has her in His hand.

Got the result of all the psychological testing on my little boy and they told us he has: Generalized anxiety disorder, Tourette Syndrome (which we knew), and Attention Deficit Disorder. His tics have gotten so bad he is causing himself physical harm now so we started him on a new med today. I know the Lord is helping us through all this. Thank you all for your prayers.

I am really confused about some things. I realize that the news can be biased so its hard to know what to believe but my sister told me that they never found any evidence of weapons of mass destruction and that Bush admitted using that as an excuse to go to war with Iraq. I am wondering if that is true and why he was dishonest about it (if he was). I am glad that Saddam was caught and for all the good things that are happening in that country but now am starting to question Bush's motives and am confused about how to vote. Any input would be appreciated. I want to believe that Bush is a good, moral man.

That is a very tough question, and I doubt any one can know for sure what were all the workings going on behind the scenes. But I can tell you, and you can read reports in any and every paper about it, is that the United Nations believed there were WMD in Iraq, President Clinton and his cabinet believed there were WMD in Iraq, and the intelligence of our partners in the fight against terror, such as England, also believed there were WMD in Iraq. Many intelligence sources say they may STILL find WMD there, and that some WMD may have been exported to other countries, i.e. Syria, just before the war. I don't know of any report suggesting that President Bush admitted using the issue of WMD as an excuse to go to Iraq. I believe he thought, as did many others, that Saddam Hussein was an enemy of America, that he was brutalizing his own people, and that he did have, and was willing to use WMD. I think the President was also concerned about terrorist camps being present in Iraq, and that Iraq was giving aid and comfort to terrorists. I think a lot of these attacks against the President are because it is an election season, and there are people who HATE President Bush, and they don't care who is elected into office as long as it isn't Bush. I may not agree with everything President Bush has done as President, but I remember how clear it was in my mind that the solution to the September 11th attacks and others like it was not going to be easy or fast, and that it would take a significant effort to root out those who intend to do harm to others. I believe President Bush made that clear also, many people were mad at him for not taking quicker action right after September 11th. And now, many are complaining we should not have taken action without the full support of the U.N. I believe a job such as a leader of an entire nation is going to automatically create enemies for that leader, and we should be very careful to listen to that criticism without a critical ear of our own to sift the facts from the fiction.

March 21, 2004 - Msg 20263: I expect to go and see The Passion of the Christ this afternoon. I am a little nervous to see it, because I know it will make me cry, but I have heard nothing but good reports on it. My 22 year old daughter saw it and said it was a wonderful movie, that made her realize how much Jesus loves us. Praise Jesus!! Guess I will run along now, the Pistons will be on the telly in a bit, and then off to the theater.

If I could add one thing to all the evidence you cited concerning WMD's is that Saddam himself admitted to having these weapons and would not offer any proof they he had gotten rid of them. He was given 12 plus years to mend his ways.

I find it hard to believe that adults can't discuss politics or other such matters. I for one saw no soap box in any previous posts. Just adults maturely discussing important matters. I don't believe Andy would have a problem with that.

March 21, 2004 - Msg 20270: Hey, all. Boo, check your email. I just forwarded something to you that I think will set the record straight, as to why President Bush did what he did. I cannot imagine a more difficult position to be in, than to be faced with the choices he had.

I'll be out of touch until late Wednesday night, going to Natchez with a group of church friends, to stay in a neat old hotel and visit some lovely old homes. Sounds like fun - a long time on a bus, but fun nevetheless. I know this group, there'll never be a dull moment.

Mercy, auh2o! More snow? Here on the Texas end of the porch, we've got buds just a-bustin' out everywhere. My mountain laurel is covered with lovely purple flowers, smells like grape candy. Roses are blooming, pansies are putting on a spectacular show once more, before the heat gets them. Snapdragons and dianthus from last year are popping out everywhere, and the daylilies are several inches tall, will be blooming soon. I love it!

If I might add, we have a President now(and you want to add a "finally" in there, feel free) who is...and this is very important... doing what he said he was going to do! Going after terrorist's and countries that harbor them wherever they are.
Boo, please keep this in mind, people are upping their attacks on the President because I think alot of them have gone back to their old lives and they are getting comfortable again, and going back to their old routines because Sept. 11 is past, and it is time to move on and get back to life. And why can they move on and settle back into their old routines? In a very large part due to George Bush's leadership during and after that troubling time, plain and simple. I don't think you have to worry about him being a moral man Boo, because like Mary Wiggins said, some people just out and out HATE him, and I think that is because he is a moral and religious man and isn't afraid to show it.
ok, end of moulage. From me anyway. :)

And now for something completely different! And nicer to talk about.
I know summer is just around the corner, do you know why? I saw(and heard) three robins today! A sure sign of summer. I would say spring but as you know I don't care for spring so I go right for summer!;)

I finally watched the TVLand awards tonight. I know, I know, what took me so long right?! I guess all I would have to say about that is "what's your hurry?" I thought it was nice seeing all the TAGS gang(sans Opie) up there, but I kind of wish they would have all had a chance to talk. I also think it was nice seeing Tina Louise(Ginger) with the Gilligan's Island team. I'm glad she has finally come around to realize that people love her and Gilligan's Island and stopped trying to distance herself from that show and character.
I'm also glad they toned down the raunchiness of those dancers. Wasn't it last year the girls were wearing some pretty risque outfits that caused kind of a moulage around these parts? I think the producers realized this year that it is the stars people will want to watch, not the dancers.

March 22, 2004 - Msg 20282: Well - the old homemaker is starting to feel better - at least so far today. . .fingers crossed. That nasty stuff lingered all weekend. Made it through baseketball, goat auction, and delivering our horses yesterday in the snow. We have our beloved little donkey back home and I helped load one little truck of grade A #1 goat manure this morning. Trying to make out a grocery list and get some vittles in the house. We ordered ourselves a new computer last night through Dell - so I might actually get to work on my website and do a little more fun stuff to it.

As far as soap boxes go - I think we can discuss what we need to discuss here on the porch and not be totally offended by someone's point of view. I think who you vote for President is your own business - it may not be my particular choice - but that is why we have free will and we have the election process. I think it is our duty as members of this country to support whomever winds up in the office of the president. It is a tough job to please all the people all the time and it doesn't happen. It can't happen. Sometimes decisions are made that upset some. We hope that the man in charge has more information than what the mainstream media provides. My own children do not like the arbitrary decisions that I make. Opie didn't always like what Andy said, but in the end there was a mutual respect. I think that respect for our people in office is lacking -sometimes they don't deserve it and they themselves take away by their own actions (both Republican and Democrat fall into that category).
So that is part of my soap box for the day and I even included a TAGS moment for those who need it - I said it and I ain't taking it back!

March 22, 2004 - Msg 20286: Hey auh2o! You need to visit Texas but I suggest coming in the Spring. I think it is the most beautiful in Spring with all the wildflowers. If you visit in the summer you will think you dropped straight into h-ll! Yes, it's THAT hot. Here on the coast we get a bit of breeze but the humidity makes it unbearable. Out where Romeena lives it the heat is horrendous. Texas is a great place, though and has a wonderful culture all its own with lots of very proud Texans. Lots of great home cookin' and Tex-mex food, too.

My husband says Dell is a good computer to buy because they have great service after you buy it. He buys and maintains computers for the government so he has expertise in that area.

Never really watched Green Acres before, Boo, but I have turned to it several times recently and I might have to start watching as it looks kind of "down-homey", and I like that kind of show.

Emmett, I am so sorry I offended you. I was afraid of that, but Boo asked a question and I felt obliged to answer. She may get some opinions that run counter to mine, but that's okay. By the way, I wrote so much in that post I almost forgot to sign it, but I did own up to it in the very next post when I realized I had forgotten my signature.

I went to see "The Passion of the Christ" yesterday. I was quite moved. Half a box of kleenex, but I am very glad I went. Oddly, while buying the tickets I noticed there was a large disclaimer sign regarding "The Passion" advising that it was gruesome and hard to watch. I didn't notice any such advisory for "Taking Lives" or "Dawn of the Dead" which happened to be showing in the theater next to where "The Passion" was shown. Just a thought.

Around my porch the sky is blue and it looks just lovely out there, but it is only in the 20's! But, they are saying we will be pushing upper 50's and maybe even 60 by the weekend! Yahoo!! I hope they are right, because this is one winter I am ready to say good riddance too!

Emmitt: As an avid tags rerun watcher, I want to remind you of several episodes that were VERY politcal...remember when Aunt Bea ran for town council, or when barney ran for sheriff?
Remember when Bea led a group of protesters about the highway going thru a man's property? And there were several more. The writers were not afraid to bring up such subjects and the thing is,
they ended with a moral, and so I see nothing wrong with a LITTLE political discussion, as long as all opinions are respected, and dicussed openly! (ie: political INcorrectness aint a bad thing!) Like look at that disclaimer on the movie!
That should be on ALL movies with some violence
or not put up at all!

March 22, 2004 - Msg 20294: Asa, I was waiting till today to comment on my catching arm. Just came from my PT review. On top of the impingement of my arms, I have rotator cuff spurs, neck issues, a bottom rear rib that's bowed way out, and 1 leg 1/2 inch shorter than the other. Got shoulder-poked in all the wrong places so I'm a bit testy right now. He wants to get me sleeping before starting any therapy - says I should have no less than 5 pillows! Goodness, won't be any room for Big Jeff! But he thinks that there's been no muscle deterioration, and I may get 1/2 the strength and ROM back! With the weak arms, I didn't realize my dental care was suffering, now I have to deal with gum disease. It ain't no picnic, but really I see so many people suffering so much more than me that I still feel blessed. God is so good to me!! The arm that got operated on is coming around. They say it could be 6 months before I get full feeling back.

Hope I didn't raise too many eyebrows back there. While I'm all for being in Iraq, I'm not real happy about what's happening here at home. I also feel if we are part of the UN, we should play by the rules or not play at all. OK, I'm takin' down my soap box.

I have read most of it and it shows such good pictures of everyone. It brings back wonderful memories of my child hood. I loved Andy and always pretended he was a dad that I would of loved to had. Not saying my dad was second best, but I just loved the ways about him and how he related to everyone and life. What a wonderful world this would be if life could be built around Mayberry. Andy Griffith blessed us with a show that taught us all a little something about life and ourselves and If ever I could contact him and let him know how much he touched my life I would.Thanks for letting me introduce myself and enjoy the front porch,fresh air, blue sky, and count your blessings.

Read some of the discussion above...One of the things I love most about Mayberry is that people do have the right to their own opinion...and people respect them for that! It's not hard to know which side of the political fence I sit on (just check www.hillbillyshoes.com), and I wont miss a chance to chime in anywhere I can, there are several things that I have not agreed on with The President...but I beleive he's a good man, with a good heart and has only the best interest of the nation and the world. I also beleive he answers to a much higher power than the congress, and am thankful for a leader who listens to that small inner voice, instead of the loud outside voice of the media!

Aside from that...I'm all ready for some steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, a little apple butter...hmmmm.....sounds GOOOD!

Of course, I'm not as up on the TAGS dialogue as some of the people here, that and I'm not a very good conversationalist to begin with, I just tend to ramble on and on and never really say an...
But you get the picture.;)

Hey Boo, your story about your baby girl just reminded me about my 3yr old baby girl. I was watching TAGS the other day and my daughter was playing in the other room. Well, when she heard the TAGS theme she dropped everything and ran in and stared at the tv.
I often wonder why such a little kid would like a Black and White tv show, but I guess TAGS is universal for all ages! There is one episode that she likes in particular and we watch it on dvd quite a bit. It is the one where Andy and Barney meet Ernest T for the first time. My daughter loves to re-enact the scenes with me, and she'll tell me to be Barney and she'll be Andy, then she gently slaps my face like Andy does in trying to wake Barney up, then snaps her fingers(as much as she can which basically amounts to her waving her hand up and down). Then she has us switch and she's Barney. It's funny when she pretends to wake up a little bit and then go back to sleep(until I snap my fingers). She's quite a character.
And she just loves when Ernest T does his serenading! She laughs up a storm! And I laugh up a storm when she mimics his tuning up and when he says, "do you want to hear me sing 'Eatin goober peas'?" (that is what he says isn't it?) Anyway, then she'll say it(after she is done laughing, it really cracks her up).
Anyway, I'd better say goodnight for now!
