March 16, 2004 - Msg 20092: Mornin' porch! 20087, I'm likely the worst offender. Please understand that it's not intentional. Sometimes so many conversations, trivia games, prayer requests, etc. happen all at once and I just don't have the typing skills/arm strength that I had a couple years ago to respond to every one of them! Some days it gets so busy on this porch, all I can do is stand in the corner and read. Then other times I get all in a rush and don't read every post, but that's not too often. But I do LOVE ALL OF YOU. Every character, critter, porchster and lurker.

Ro, glad the Plum's alright! Whew!! Happy (belated) birthday Goober - 40's a biggun. homemaker, sorry your menfolk are ailin, sounds MESSY. I'll keep ya in my prayers and hope you don't catch it.... see now, I've read back prety far and I STILL missed some greetings... but I can't type any more for now, so I hope this will cover me..."HEY Y'all"

Just a note to message 20087: no offense ever intended and no body is ignored on purpose. I don't think any of us can respond to every single post, especially those of us with small children (never enough hours in a day!). One great thing about the porch is we can drop in and visit for a spell when we find a little time in our busy schedules. We care about everyone, though.

Barn: That little kiss on the jaw felt mighty good didn't it!
Andy: Well, it felt better than a mule's nose.

I hope that interloper returns for some conversation. At last count there are 34 active

Might I suggest that if you feel your being ignored to just post a little more often. Seems we get a few who roll in for a day or to and then leave and we never hear from them again. So just jump on in here and talk some. We will respond.

March 16, 2004 - Msg 20112: Hey porch. sorry it's been awhile. Things have been crazy around here. My dad came through the heart cath ok, found one artery over 90% blocked so they did a stint and corrected that. It's a new procedure with medication on the stint so it cant close back up again. But last night he had a light heart attack which they think was caused from a blood clot. He is still in the hospital but no longer in ICU he is in a step down room right now. I dont know how long they will keep him now. He was supposed to come home today. So not only that but my best friends baby stopped breathing for about 10 seconds the other night, so they were in the hospital with her as well. The Dr's think it was just sleep apnea and nothing serious, but they were going to do some tests and keep her to monitor her. And on top of all that, my uncle is in the hospital too with the same procedure as my Dad had. I've been torn between all three and just dont really know what to do right now. Just keep them all in your prayers. I hope you are all doing good, and I'm sorry if I ignored you too whoever was posting about it. I get busy sometimes and dont take time to answer each one. But this is a great place to be, and I hope you'll come back soon. Ya'll take care, my love to each of you--Salty Dog

Hey Folks,

pipeman, I was thinking of you the other day (because of all the trips down memory lane) when we visited the first Fisher-Price factory. They had some of their original toys on display, pull strings and all.

MDC, favorite baseball without a doubt is Field of Dreams. I love the whole idea of second chances. I know I'd love to have a game of catch with my Dad again. "If you build it he will come."

Mrs. Wiley, you have a kindred spirit here with regard to typing. My arm strength is fine but my eye hand coordination leaves something to be dissuader.

Mary, we are getting blasted with snow here again today. We've had about 6 inches of the white stuff with another 8 coming they say.

Goober A belated Happy Birthday. I turned the 40 trick about 3 years ago.

Asa, I'm sorry if I've already asked this but what part of country do you live in. I had a list here next to computer that had everyone's general whereabouts but I think I canned it, by mistake of course.

As for the person who felt ignored, I just can't imagine that. I've been stopping by here for a few months now and that's dropping in one day and maybe not stopping in again for a week or so. I've never felt ignored quite the opposite. The people here on the porch seem quite friendly and welcoming.

March 16, 2004 - Msg 20118: Hey to the Porch. First off, let me say a BIG (and belated) HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my old pal GOOBER! Congratulations on makin' it through another year, bud! The same goes (today) to EMMA and *Mavis (where's that girl been, anyway?)! Happy birthday to those three, and to EVERYBODY who's celebrating one this week!

Hey 20087, I know how you feel. I guess just about everybody here has felt left out or left behind from time to time. It's just that some folks who can come and post here all the time get to know others who can as well, and those who can't read or post as often are sometimes overwhelmed by the number of messages left since their last visit, so give up on trying to catch up, and instead just "jump in where they can and hang on". But it's nothing personal, really. Folks have been that way forever. I've been coming to this Porch, off and on, for almost seven years (back when Sheriff Frank ran the Porch). And because I haven't been able to post as often as some, I haven't become as close to folks as some others here have. That's why I use the term "bud" when I talk to folks here (whether they're male or female doesn't matter; "bud" is a gender-neutral term in my mind). "Bud" is my term for anyone I would consider a friend, if I truly KNEW the person, and didn't just post messages back and forth to them. Some folks who have met at this here Porch have gone on to become TRUE FRIENDS. I envy them, but at the same time I'm glad for them. They've made a connection to someone who they probably never would have met had it not been for venues such as this. As for me, I've even met some folks from this place viz-a-viz (hand-to-hand), but still I can't honestly call any of them a "TRUE FRIEND" because we just haven't been able to experience the closeness that true friendship requires. I'm afraid it's my fault, 'cause I tend to put people off somehow. If I could figure out how I'm putting people off, maybe I could STOP IT and I could make some TRUE FRIENDS here. But I'm off on a tangent. Sorry about that. The point is, some folks who post here are more familiar with a particular group, and it takes awhile to become part of it. But don't give up. Nobody is ignorning your posts intentionally. It just takes time and familiarity to do the trick. I hope this (lengthy) explanation helps you a little. Sorry to be so long-winded. (Maybe that's one'a my "off-putting" qualities, you reckon?)

I'll see ya.

March 16, 2004 - Msg 20122: Hey to the porch -
My birthday wish got swept so I'll say it again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMA!
I've been visiting here since Sherrif (ain't that how he spelled it?) Frank's days too, first came to the porch in the summer of '96 and started posting regular-like sometime that fall. I think the ones of us who really hit it off and became FRIENDS were the ones who also visited the old OCKCC site (or KCOCC or whatever it was) and were the very first ones to visit the original Sarah's chatroom when Otis started it. It was so much easier to get to know each other in the chat than on the porch and we all found so much that we had in common besides a love of TAGS. That led to our visits and get-togethers and card-mailing and parties at Mayberry Days and other places. Rafe, although you haven't been to all of the gatherings you've been a big part of the ones you have attended and you are part of the 'die-hards'. We all pull for you at the trivia contest when you're there.
I guess De§ is the only one who was here when I first sat in a rocker and who still visits regularly. And I don't visit as often as I did, that's for sure. The porch is differnet now. Not worse or better, just different. It was what we needed and wanted it to be back then and now it is what y'all (the REAL regulars nowadays) need and want it to be for y'all. That's great. And it's great that Floyd restarted it and keeps it going for ever'body. ANYway, that's my ramblin' for today. Y'all keep the rockers rockin' and we'll check back on ya ever now and then.

March 16, 2004 - Msg 20125: auh2o, doesn't "dissuader" mean: Someone who tries to urge someone else to do the opposite of what yet another person is trying to persuade them to do?! ;) That's from the Sterling Holobyte dictionary.

Hey Angefan, I don't mind if you move back. This porch is big enough for all!

I have some interesting news. I just found out a couple days ago that my cousin-in-law just won the Miss Maui Pageant in, ...well, Maui. I guess that is a stepping stone to compete in the Miss Hawaii Pageant and then of course, Miss America. What I find pretty neat is that she danced a hula at our wedding(my Wife's family put on a little Hawaiian show at our reception) back in 1999, so now I can say that Miss Maui, and possibly and hopefully Miss America, danced at our wedding. Of course I want her to win for HER, mind you.:) I just think it is kind of neat.

Looks like Field of Dreams so far in the favorite baseball movie poll. Cast your vote.
I just had a thought, if we could send these idiot people who blow things up, a box set of TAGS, maybe they'd look at the world differently!

Thanks for bein' here for this Darlin' Cuz.

March 16, 2004 - Msg 20127: Hey to the porch - I guess I'll vote for Field of Dreams too. We went a few years ago to the site in Iowa where it was filmed and played in a fantasy camp with some former major leaguers.

March 17, 2004 - Msg 20132: Did you hear the one about the defense lawyer who was questioning potential jurors for an upcoming trial. Upon asking one elderly lady and prospective juror if she knew him, the lady replied, "Yes, John Johnson, I have known you since you were a little boy. I know you are a dishonest, underhanded, poor excuse for a lawyer who cares about nothing but lining your pockets." The defense lawyer looked shocked because he didn't recognize the lady. Next it was time for the prosecuting attorney to question the prospective jurors and when he asked the elderly lady if she knew him, she replied, "Yes, Sam Samuels, I have known you all your life and I know what a low-life, sneaky, adulterer you are. I know about your long-time affair with your secretary, too.". The prosecuting attorney was speechless! The judge then called the two attorneys up to the bench to convene with them. So very good to see you AngeFan. I, along with Hazel was wondering how Helen was doing. (Hazel ain't got the corner on the wondering market)
Now I feel impressed to say this. You folks are the kindest dearest most wonderful folks I have ever gotten to know over thie eletonal marvel. I suppose there may be at times folks who don't feel welcome here, and for that let me say I am sorry. BUT, I will say this. I think there are times when folks are maybe just a little too sensitive about responses. Seems to me that it ain't really Mayberry like to get on here once in a blue moon and take a swipe at folks here on the porch. Like I said earlier, the folks that post here the most often usually get the most responses. I just hate for so many of the good folks here to go beating themselves up inside over this. No need to to that. Cause you is all wonderful folks.
Now back to your regular posting.:)

Mrs. Wiley, you were the first to say it, so I will be the second! Maybe Irishter will drop by and say "Top o' the mornin' to ya!"

It isn't very green around here today, and it is cold!

Possum my prayers are with you and your family. I am sure little Laci is quite the little fighter and will do just fine, it is hard, though, when they are so tiny. Tommy may just be getting a wake up call to take better care of himself, and nothing worse will come of this episode, at least that will be my prayer.

I am a little shook up right now. I was a bit behind in my mortgage, to the point they wanted a certified check. I sent it registered mail in February, getting our account all caught up, and they can't find the check! That will make the old blood pressure boil. My bank shows it was cashed, but they can't make out the stamp! I don't know if the check was stolen, was it stolen from me, or from them? The postal service does show they recieved the letter, and it was cashed 8 days later. Prayers on this situation would be vastly, greatly, hugely appreciated. I guess the best thing to do is trust God to take care of it.

I plan on having a fun St. Patty's day anyway! Anyone for green eggs and ham?! LOL

"Nothin' but hearthache I tell ya!"

Anybody here like College Basketball? Getting ready to watch seemingly 1000 games over the next few days. If it's nice weather though my wife will have a springtime "honey-Do" list longer than my arm.

March 17, 2004 - Msg 20150: McDarlin's Cuz here! Good to hear from you cousin Briscoe.
I would sure like to retire in a small town in a few years. For the last 6 years the Phoenix area has grown by 10,000 a month! That's a true fact that is just mindboggling! many are frustrated Californians, but many also from the east.
Possum- Prayers for sure. Know you must be hurting as no ==SMILES== from you this time!
One thing about this here porch, we aint afraid to pray! All those 10 Commandment monuments can be placed on this porch anytime! As some of you may know, St Patrick used the shamrock to show the people that the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
are all one God! (3 connected "leaves" on ONE stem).
Spot, tonight, corned beef brisket, cabbage greens, (even fried if ya like)and a little lite

March 17, 2004 - Msg 20152: Hey folks, Happy St. Pat's Day!

Got my computer all fixed up so I'm finally back. Sure missed everyone. Hey to the new faces on the porch, BH and felicia, and anyone else whose name I didn't catch. A Mayberry "glad you're back" hello to AngeFan, too.

Prayers for all who need them, and rejoicing for those prayers that were answered.

Homemaker - hope all of your's get to feeling all better soon. My daughter had the yucks for about 4 days last week. Pitiful, it was, seeing her so not like herself.

Ready for the big nite tonight, too. I'll partake of all the goodies, too. Your Irish fare sound real good, McCuz. ;)

What varieties of roses did you put in, Romeena? I bet your place is just a spot of heaven on earth, isn't it? Sounds wonderful.

I only lived in the big city for a few years of my life, mostly small towns and in the country. No stoplights, a couple of gas stations, and one grocery store. Used to love to sit on the porch swing at our home on Main St. when I was a teenager in a town of less than 1000. Small town and rural living is the life for me.

Well, just wanted to stop back and wish all my Mayberry friends a good day.

We ain't much for TV other than Andy and sports over her but we love our music. We listen to lots of old time music and of course bluegrass as well. It's our nature up here in these hills. Myself, I whittle spoons from all sorts of wood and also play some mandolin and washboard. My wife will slap the spoons and even sometimes whistle the jug...but she ain't no Briscoe yet.

Happy to see everyone had a good day for the most part.

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20169: Got a cute TAGS story about my 3 yr old daughter to share. I'll preface the story with this - Evie's favorite show is TAGS and I have an Andy Griffith "Just As I Am" CD that she loves to listen to. Anyways, the story is this....She was being REALLY cranky tonight and was going on and on until we came in the front room where "Man in a Hurry" was on and Ange and Barn are singing "Church in the Wildwood". She was just fighting that att*tude so hard and finally broke out in a big smile as they were singing. (The song is on the CD). If anything can make a body happy, I believe TAGS would be it.

Saw the awards show and it was pretty good. Nice to see Andy and all the gang, and to get a glimpse of Cindi Griffith, too. She and Andy are coming up on their 21st wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks (April 2).

Glad to hear your good news, Salty.

Gosh, Frankie (that's my sister's name, by the way), wish we were all in Mayberry where gas was 30 cents a ding!

BH - I love Bluegrass music, too, although hubby doesn't care much for it. Just got done listening to The Three Pickers (Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Ricky Skaggs) CD - it's gooood!

Well, I'll sign off here.
Lotsa luck to you and yours ; )

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20186: Hey, Rafe! Good to know you're still around. You were one of the originals when I first joined the porch. I'm delighted to see that you still include your little blue link (*).

Possum, bless your little heart. You're carrying a load there, with little Laci still having problems, and now her daddy being so sick. As a diabetic myself, I can empathize with Tommy - it's hard to behave oneself sometimes when food is the question, but he just must do it. Diabetic ketoacidosis (when acetone builds up in the blood) can be life-threatening, and he's not the only one with something to lose. His family has a stake in this, too.

Hey, AngeFan. Don't be such a stranger. We miss you! We need every single porchster - can't afford to lose even one, so stick around.

Salty, prayers for your dad, honey, and for you, too. You've had a lot going on here lately. Wish we could do something to help. I'd send the Plum over with a casserole, but am afraid she'd nibble it on the way.

Goober, I'm sorry things aren't improving for your dad. I know how you feel about "the place". My dad spent his last three years in an assisted living facility, but it was a lovely place, very homelike and comfortable, and I think he was happy there. He said he was, anyway, and I hung onto that.

homemaker, I was afraid you'd get that stuff, taking care of the family like that. It was inevitable. Now, just lie back, and let them take care of you for a change!

Saw the award show last night. Pretty good. Some lame moments, of course, and I have to say it, though it hurts, that I wish Ron Howard wasn't associated with anything as unwholesome as "Arrested Development". I didn't see a thing in those clips that would encourage me to watch the show. And what was up with the disappearing act that Lisa Loring and Butch Patrick pulled? You could tell that Brad Garrett was puzzled, too. Weird.

Well, gotta run. More on the roses later, AFD, this has grown too long. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

AFD- Cute story about your little one being calmed by Andy and barney!
HM- I missed the "barney" spelling too! I guess I read it too fast! (See we ALL need to slow down)!
Finally, last night's local color ep was of Aunt Bea's ROSE. Thought of you, Romeena!

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20188: I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about "Arrested Development", Romeena. Disappointing to say the least.
I'll have to rewatch and see what you're talking about with Lisa and Butch - I must have been out of the room when that was shown.

Let's see, for supper, how about steak and BBQ ribs, potato salad (slaw for spot), corn on the cob, baked beans, and, as spot says - "a tear from the roll of paper towels". I think I'll raid the pop cooler over at Wally's for drinks all around. (spot - have you ever been to a Lamberts Cafe. They serve pass arounds to you on paper towels they keep at the table. And they throw rolls at you, too - Good eatin').

Gonna take Evie outside in the 70° weather. It's beautiful.

Have a great day everyone.

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20192: Hey Porch!

AngeFan, I don't know where Sarah's mother injured her hip, I hope someone else can help you with that info.

I missed seeing TAGS, and then the start of the award show! Boo hoo hoo :( I was at church last night, and by the time I arrived home the awards show had already started. I assumed that if they were doing a special award for TAGS, that it would be toward the end, so I sat there watching the entire show, and it never happened! I just read someone said it was rerun today at noon, but of course, I didn't know that at noon, so guess what...I missed it again! Oh well, it may be on in reruns again, I will just have to watch for it. I don't mean to insult anybody, but didn't they make a big deal out of Dick Van Dyke last year, and now this year Mary Tyler Moore. She's alright and everything, but I was never THAT big a fan of her show. I think they could give more attention to the really big hits like THE MUNSTERS!! Just kidding, but they do seem like they gush over Mary Tyler Moore, in both shows.

I got water boiling on the stove for pasta, so I best be running along!

Y'all have a great Mayberry Day!

Mary Wiggins

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20193: AngeFan - Sarah's momma hurt her hip at the bowlin' alley.

Seems like they don't say much about westerns and police drama (or shows that have major stars no longer living on the awards), either. Dragnet, Adam 12, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and all those seem to get left out. : (

Save some of that pasta for me, Mary, I'm a big fan of it. Wish my hubby was.

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20195: For AFD and anyone else who is interested, there are 22 rose bushes in the rose island, and about ten other varieties scattered around here and there. Names like Heritage, Marmalade Skies, Reine des Violettes, Mr. Lincoln, Barbra Streisand, Just Joey, Veterans' Honor, Mirandy, Moonstone, George Burns, Cherry Parfait, Gypsy Carnival, Double Delight, Love and Peace, Peace, McCartney Rose, Joseph's Coat and others. There are several of the feisty and fun Knockout, and one tree rose that's a double graft - it will bear the beautiful white Iceberg on one side and Pink Iceberg on the other. There are five China Doll miniatures, framing the back side of a long, low boulder. They're in my mom's memory, because she loved the little China Dolls. Heritage and Gypsy Carnival have not leafed out yet, but they have some very tiny bumps that I think are leaf buds. Everybody else is fully clothed in leaves, and appear to have grown at least three inches since they were planted last week. My landscaper friend set each bush up with its very own bubbler to keep it watered without wetting the foliage, so that should help to eliminate mildew and black spot. (I hope.) OK, I'll yield the floor to someone else now, enough about roses. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

March 18, 2004 - Msg 20196: Hi Homemaker, hope ya'll get over that flu soon. I don't know where I've been for so many days. I was checkin' the archives to see how long it'd been since I posted. Guess it was about the time Mrs. Wiley was insultin' my singin' around msg 20037! Mary Wiggins, I, too, missed the award show and the rerun. Think they'll re-rerun it? My baseball movie vote goes to Sandlot too. Cute movie, great sound track. Prayers for all who needs 'em.
