Hey Hey BDJ, good to see ya. Try not to be so scarce. Just wondering how it goes crossing the Robert E Lee Natural Bridge with all the weather we got going on. Could you and the boys play a little Almost Home for me. That 'un definately still makes me cry.
I would want to be trapped with Andy. Then who cares who got you out. I am sure we could think of something to keep us warm. LOL Otherwise, I would probably want to be trapped with Barney or Floyd or maybe both. They would keep ya laughing...that's for sure. And Otis and Briscoe would have something refreshing to drink I am sure. I would not want to be trapped with Earnest T Bass if there were any rocks anywheres close by. And Howard would absolutely drive me crazy. Constant yammering. If I was with anyone besides Andy, I would probably want Briscoe and the boys rescuing me. I hear them mountain men are pretty ept at life in the wild. Or as tough as Aunt Bee was with Otis, I imagine she would be good in a trying situation. Now if we were talking about one of the Return to Mayberry specials, I would want to be trapped with Opie hands down. Them Red headed men twang my buds. Or int the old episones, then maybe Rafe. He could just sing the hours away. As you can tell, I pretty much take people as I find them. I could handle just about anybody. Except Howard. Pompus wind bag. I just read over this and noticed I did not mention one woman I would like to be trapped with. Guess that's just cause I am such a......

Good afternoon folks,
Buffalo Police questioned two Iraqi nationals who were seen videotaping the city's water treatment plant Wednesday. This was the first sentence in a local news article this morning. It was the third time in the last few months that men of Middle Eastern origin were seen video typing local (Buffalo is actually about 60 miles north of here) water "works." I absolutely mean no disrespect to the people the Middle East but this is a bit alarming to me. I'm sure we all already do but lets continue to keep the safety security of our Country included in our pray lists. Lately while reading the newspapers or watching the national news it appears that many people, present company excluded of course, have forgotten about 9-11.

I just had to sit down and share an answer to prayer with you. Today I received some information in the mail from The Homeschool Legal Defense Association, of which I am a member. I asked for the information on children with learning problems (for my son). Anyway, I was sitting reading the info and it was talking about finding someone who is trained to teach to help tutor your child. I was thinking, 'Well, that is a great idea but I wouldn't know where to begin to find one.'. All of a sudden the phone rang and it was a friend of ours who is getting his master's degree in education. He said he wanted to tutor Sean twice a week because it would be beneficial for Sean and for him. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! I never even said a word about needing a tutor for Sean. I just started crying the minute he asked. God is so amazing. Thank God for friends who are willing to help out and for those who pray. Thanks to all of you for praying!

January 29, 2004 - Msg 18980:
Chalk up another vote for Miracle Whip! I'll eat mayo when I must, but much prefer MW. As for fried bologna, it's usually too salty for me after it's fried. I love a good flavorful bologna cut thick, on fresh white bread, with Miracle Whip. A couple of lettuce leaves and some sliced tomato make a good addition, but it's fine with just the bologna. Goober, I believe you mentioned grape Nehi - laawww, does that bring back memories. When I was very small, my folks would buy Grapette for me to drink, and I loved it, but as I got a little older, and could handle a larger drink, I graduated to grape Nehi, and I felt like I had arrived! Loved the stuff, and still do, actually, but haven't had one in years. I have a mountain laurel tree in my front yard (brought from San Antonio in a coffee can many years ago), and when it blooms, it smells just like grape Nehi. Delightful!
Who all is coming to the Super Bowl Party? Come one, come all - I've got plenty of room. If we overflow the living room where the big TV is, some can go to the sunroom. Regular TV, but for those of us who are only token football fans, it'll do fine. I'll have some tamales, some chicken salad and good bread, and tea. Also making lemon squares. Bring something snack-y and come on!
About that big-screen TV - it's a 50" screen, and very clear picture, but I have noticed that there's some lateral distortion. Everyone looks fatter, wider. Cars look extra-long. Everything is sort of stretched out. I guess that just comes with the wider screen. Not a problem, you get used to it. The surround sound system is awesome, by the way. Startles me at times, as sound comes from everywhere, and I can't always tell that a certain sound is actually coming from the TV. I almost answered Samantha's doorbell this afternoon! Even fools the Plum sometimes.
Well, guess I'd better get a little housekeeping done, if we're having a party on Sunday. Have a lovely day tomorrow, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
January 30, 2004 - Msg 18981:

Count me in on the Super Bowl party, Romeena - if just for the lemon squares. MMMMM - haven't had those in a month o' Sundays. I'll have to ponder a bit on a suitable snack to bring.
Boo - what a faith-booster!! God is so good! The Bible says that the "effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much!" God knows how much prayer you have put into this situation and how can He not do something miraculous!! I'm rejoicing with you!! And still praying! :)

'Mornin' porch! I'm with Goober on this "global warming" stuff. Why, I had to put on a denim jacket this morning to go out and fill the bird feeders! (teehee) Speaking of feeders, I'm sorry to say that a flock of pigeons has (have?) discovered the buffet in my back yard, and they can eat the seed faster than I can put it out. They're beautiful, and I love them, but I wish they'd just feed nicely and move along. No, they camp out and eat until they can hardly fly, the greedy things. I guess the seed lays on their chests. Stumpy and Stumpette, my one-legged grackles, couldn't even get to the seed this morning. The pigeons have left now, because it's all gone, guess I'll put out a little more and see what happens. I've tried shooing them away, but they're very bold, and just fly up on the fence and wait for me to go away. Every now and then, a squirrel will make a full-force charge through their ranks, and they do fly then, but they come back.
Well, got errands to run and a house to clean - guess I'd better get busy. Wish Opie would come along and help me carry my packages. Maybe I'll pull the wagon along with me, and put stuff in that. As long as I don't buy any meat and try to carry it in the wagon, maybe the dogs won't follow me. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Last night's local tags was Opies fortune when he finds the 50 dollars. I think the last scene is my favorite of all eps when Opie gives back the money and Andy had thought he spent it! I think i like it cuz when i was teaching, I was the one in Andy's place in a very similar situation with a pupil. Make us adults stop and think!
Here's another good dialog from it:
Andy: You took out Feebie Gilbert?
Barn: Yeah, I took her out a couple of times.
Andy: (big grin)Does Thelma Lou know you took her out?
Barn:Well, no.
Andy: Where'd you and Feebie go?
Barn: Well, that place out on the highway, The Blue View.

I nailed Hazel once with one of homemakers meat balls. Best 5 wood shot I have ever got off. Got her right smack between the eyeballs bless her heart. She's been kinda goofy ever since. (just kidding Hazel)
I love old Gordon Charlotte. Got everyone of his C.D'S. Old Briscoe takes off on him purty good, don't you think?

Asa if'n Hazel is bringing her meatballs to the party, will you leave your golf clubs at home, we don't want no more incidents, don't think poor little Hazel could handle another whack upside the head. I guess I'll have to pass on Ro's party, the band is booked to play another Super Bowl party, but I'll be thinking of ya'll whilst I'm eating that smoked turkey, smoked salmon, deer roast, shrimp & all the other stuff, they usually have oysters too, but I let them pass on by. Yak at ya'll later, gonna gather up the critters & hit the ironing board, it's 19 degrees here so I think that qualifies for a "3 Dog night" don't it. Howdy, all! Auh20, The Plum (Sugarplum) is my little Maltese furkid. That's the canine version of Maltese, not feline. We don't use the d-word here on the porch much, as it offends some of the furkids. Now, Spot, the talkin' dog of the porch, doesn't seem to mind. We have a link here to a site where some porchster pictures are posted (say that three times real fast), but I've lost the link. Anyway, there's a picture of the Plum and me, with her little face all pink after she ate some lipstick. If somebody can give me the link, or instructions, I have another one of her that's pretty cute and would be very proud to post it.
Sterling, I've often wondered, just what is the difference between a hermit and a homebody? I'm very definitely a homebody, but don't consider myself a hermit. I'll admit, I hermitized myself big time for the first two or three years after I lost my beloved husband, but I've conquered that. Maybe the difference in the two lies in the motivation.
Irishter, I attended a gathering last night to hear the son of some friends tell about his mission work. It was thrilling, to say the least. He functions as a "covert" missionary, and couldn't even reveal where he serves, but he really opened our eyes to a new way of thinking about mission work. He says he's not in physical danger necessarily - his family is with him - but if his purpose was revealed, he would be ejected from the country. Very interesting.
Mrs. Wiley, bless your heart. You are in our prayers. When you're feeling better, please let us know just what's going on.

Well, I am a little late, but I say MAYO MAYO MAYO. As far as the childhood books go, I read All of A Kind Family when I was a kid. Much like TKAM I read it several times. After I became a mom and worked at an elementary school, I became a fan of children's books. Among my favoites are the Junie B Jones series and The Tub Family and The Tub Grandfather. The Tub books are wonderfully written and the pictures are awesome.
As for the Super Bowl tomorrow. I would love to attend the festivities, but since my Colts were eliminated, I just have not had much heart for football. So, in honor of Payton and the boys, I respectfully decline.

Mary Wiggins, I guess you're right. I never heard of any team calling themselves "the pigeons." I do like pigeons, though, even if they are greedy. They're so pretty, and I like it that they mate for life. Did you all know that? I'll never forget something I saw along the freeway one day. Someone had hit a pigeon and it was lying all crumpled on the road shoulder, and its mate was pacing up and down beside it, obviously distraught, ignoring the traffic and just pacing and stopping beside its mate every few seconds. It about broke my heart, poor little thing.
Mrs. Wiley, I visited your care site, and believe me, I sympathize. That scare I had a year ago, that resulted in a thoracoscopy and a chest tube for three days, gave me a little insight into what you're feeling now. I've had a lot of surgery, about six in all I guess, and nothing left me with residual pain like that "simple" scope procedure did. I can only imagine what an open thoracotomy would do. You're going to be sore for a WHILE! There are major nerves underlying each rib, and when you start messing with them, you're going to have some local pain, referred pain, and just general PAIN! I still have numb areas across my abdomen as a result, which is fine - I just use those areas to inject my insulin. (heehee) Anyway, I found that warm packs worked well to help me sleep. Try one of those grain-bag things that you heat in the microwave. It really did help me.
