January 22, 2004 - Msg 18724: Speaking of the old sitcoms, I always did like "My Favorite Martian". And I'm right there with you on "WKRP" and "Barney Miller". I also love "Mr. Ed". I'd like to see them show repeats of "That Girl" and "The Partridge Family" too. I really am sick of "Sanford and Son" (no offense to S & S fans). Well, those are my thoughts for the day.

I actually saw an ep on a local channel today that I don't think I've ever seen before. Ricky thinks Lucy is a kleptomenerac because she keeps bringing home things and hiding them in the closet. (she's really collecting donated items for an auction).

And I bet little Barney is just adorable. Fun Girl, congrats on the 11 pounds. I started Atkins at the first of the year and have lost 18 pounds so far and I'm excited about that. Keep it up girl. I kind of had a shock this morning, some of you may remember my cat Cracker Jack I had for a few years, and then last March he dissappeared and I haven't seen him since, well this morning my new puppy had found his body somewhere and dragged it to the yard. Which was a hard thing to see first thing this morning. His little collar was still on. I had pretty much given up hope of him being alive, but it was still hard to see that. January 22, 2004 - Msg 18731: Good grief, Salty! Since last March? Apparently the kitty was relatively recently deceased. Where on earth had he been all that time? You poor thing, what a way to start a day! I'd have been a basket case.

I, too, have had about enough of Sanford & Son. It's a funny show, and I enjoy it, but one episode a day would be plenty. I'd like to cast one more vote for bringing in some variety. It's not like there's nothing to choose from. There's a wealth of good TV shows out there, we just don't get to see them. I wonder what will be in reruns in 20 years, or 30? I shudder to think.

My little "herd" of lighted deer (a buck, two doe and a fawn) are still gracing my back yard, near the gazebo, and they look so pretty. I really hate to bring them in, am tempted to just leave them up, but I know they'll last much longer if I shelter them until next Christmas. They'd never survive our summer - the sun would ruin the wiring and light sockets, everything. Oh, well, maybe I'll take them down tomorrow. For tonight, I'm still enjoying them.

Did anyone else ever wonder why Howard and Goober didn't call the Fun Girls to round out Howard's party, celebrating his freedom after his mother got married? You'd think Andy would have thought of that, but I guess Helen would have had a fit.

I always think during that one that too bad Andy dint just dance the night away with the "hello doll" girl. But then I guess there wouldnt be a show would there!

Ro, I don't remember Howard's mother getting married. I was wondering what happened to her on the episode where Howard and Millie decided to get married (and then break it off).

Well, my dad is supposed to get back home from Colorado today. Yipee!! He is somewhere between here and Lubbock, which is a very long drive. I am glad I could help with mom but I am worn out. I had a melt-down today and cried on the phone to my husband for awhile, and then I was ok. I started my son on the Zoloft the other day after doing some reading and praying. I got so many different opinions from what I read on the net that I just got more confused. He is struggling so much that I decided to just try it and see how it goes. Thank you all for your prayers. Sometimes it gets really hard having a special needs child (or any child, for that matter). I am finding though, that there are certain wonderful hidden blessings that are revealed through these difficulties. One is the prayers and love I had recieved from friends like you. We all have our struggles and aren't afraid to share them when we need love and support. I thank God for all of you. When it comes to good people, you are supreme.

I hear my 2 yr old scattering tapes all over the living room and the funny thing is I am willing to let her make a terrible mess in order to have a few uninterrupted minutes alone. I think I will go tackle the mess now! Love to you all--

We're always glad to have someone new come up here on the porch with us and fill one of the rocking chairs! TV Land seems to "try" to run the shows in some order. (We haven't figured out what order it is yet!) Hopefully, they are just about ready to get back to the black and white episodes again. Most folks that love TAGS prefer the black and white episodes, and I have to admit that I am one of them!

Irishter, I am intrigued that you moved from the U.S. of A. to Ireland. How long ago did you move there, and do you like it? What are the best things about living there, and what do you miss the most from America? My Grandparents and so on hailed from Ireland, so I love all things Irish. Hope to visit there one day. My daughter was asking me yesterday if I could go anywhere in the world for a trip, where would I choose. I told her to bed!, but I was just kidding! My hands down choice would be Ireland...alas, someday!

Sad about Captain Kangaroo. I had a stuffed rabbit(toy) when I was little that reminded me of Bunny Rabbit on Captain Kangaroo, and I kind of modelled his personality as being like Bunny Rabbit. I called him Bun-Bun. I wonder if he's still over at my parents somewhere. I know my Mom threw a bunch of our stuffed animals out a long time ago because they got all mildewed(she says anyway!) ;) But maybe I should check anyway. He might have been one of them that made it. My daughter might like to have him, even though as I recall the last time I saw him his "fur" was almost all rubbed off(due to excessive playing time. Hey, I had a big imagination and Bun-Bun had a lot of adventures1:)). I think he was probably the only stuffed bunny rabbit I've ever seen with male-pattern baldness!

My family and I are from Huntsville and have lived here in County Kildare for nine years as of tomorrow (the 25th). Will stop in on the proch every now and again to see how things are going. We watch tapes of the show almost daily. We have everything on tape except the last special which was done in November. BTW, I am a missionary pastor of a small Baptist church.
January 24, 2004 - Msg 18765: Welcome, Irishter! Please come as often as you can. I have been sitting here on the porch nearly everyd ay for about a year and a half. I have a very busy life taking care of my family but find that even if its only a few minutes that I spend here each day, it helps me tremendously. We share each other's joy and burdens. Hmmm, a missionary to Ireland....sounds like a blessing. My family and I attend a small Baptist church here in South Texas.

Sterling, you have such wonderful wit! A rabbit with male pattern baldness! Too funny. Reminds me of the Velveteen Rabbit. Have you read that one to your daughter? According to the book, having all your hair loved off is what makes you "real". Hope you find Bun-Bun (or maybe the fairy turned him into a real rabbit, like in the story!).

I took my son to see Cheaper By The Dozen tonight. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Sweet movie with a good message about family. It's not extremely funny but very enjoyable and makes you feel good, I think, and kind of appreciate the family you have. No bad language or harsh sexual humor (none that I recall, anyway). I give it 3 stars ***.

I think I will try to go back to bed. My 2 yr old woke me at 3:30 and I can't go back to sleep!

January 24, 2004 - Msg 18769: What a joy it is to come here after a long night shift, and spend a few minutes on the porch with good friends. Irishter, what a lovely place to end up in as a missionary. I have a smidge of Irish blood, and have always wanted to visit the old sod. My son and his wife were there on 9/11, and were so impressed with the kindness and sensitivity shown them by the Irish people. Several even offered to put them up in their homes if they had trouble getting a flight back to the states. These were strangers, people they met in a very casual way, but they were treated like family. As for wanting to go to Andy's front porch, I think I'd rather make that on a Sunday afternoon, because then we'd have just finished one of Aunt Bee's Sunday dinners.

Farrah, you stick around, honey. We need you young'uns to keep us on our toes. Keith, you come on back, too. No fair just passin' through!

I'm watching 13 doves, 5 rather pudgy squirrels, a flicker and countless sparrows right now, just chowing down on the peanuts and seeds I put out when I got home. It's like watching a circus, and I never get tired of it.

Irishter, a belated welcome to the porch. Yes, we did get hit by the storm on Thursday and Friday. I'm afraid I have to respectfully and in the sense of friendly discourse disagree with your assessment of the war in Iraq but new Gallop and AP polls both show Americans support the war by 65% and 67% respectively. Also, polls in Iraq show that Iraq's support the troops with a solid 75%. However, they understandably want to take control of their country as soon as they can. I think the only place you'll a majority of people opposed to the war is the left wing of the Democratic Party and of clowns like Michael Moore who opposes anything short of full scale socialism.

Mt brother is dropping of the "new" Costner movie "Open Range" tonight. I just can't wait.

Irishter, I have a few copies of The Andy Griffith Show-Back to Mayberry left. I made several copies for the folks here on the porch. Is there an address I could mail it to you at? It was very touching and definately worth a look. I'll warn ya though, have a box of Kleenex on hand when you view it. It's a tear jerker. My hubbies ancestors were from County Wexford. Do you know where that is? I am from Indiana. Just about half an hour south west of Indianapolis.

I thought of Velveteen Rabbit too when Sterling was describing his Bun Bun. Sterling, I wonder if your ma could have put him in a warm oven to kill the mildew, if he truly did have it. Then she could say she had "a bun in the oven." Hahaha
I just kill myself. LOL

Gotta go and rustle up some grub. Kyle is at my brother's in Ohio and it's kinda lonesome here without him.

January 24, 2004 - Msg 18788: Irishter, The Plum and I are from Texas, and I too, am a Baptist. The Plum, in case you haven't figured it out, is actually Sugarplum, my little Maltese furkid. (No, not a maltese cat, she's of the canine persuasion, but we don't use the d-word here on the porch.) My daughter-in-law's mother is of Irish extraction - I believe her name was Marrinan. When my kids were in Ireland in 2001, they were accompanied by her parents, and looked up some old family ties, I believe. They spent a lot of time in the Galway Bay area. My DIL is great to "journal" trips like that, and send them back in emails. I saved them, and I have pictures, too. Just lovely.

It's a gray, drizzly, chilly day and I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring, hoping I won't have to go to work tonight. A very good night to just tuck in and rest, then get up early for church in the morning. If I have to work tonight, I won't get to go to church, because it's very embarrassing to fall soundly asleep in church, and that's just what would happen.

Sterling, I love your Bun-Bun story, and I want you to know I admire a man who is not afraid to tell the world he once had a well-loved stuffed rabbit named Bun-Bun. That speaks of a solid sense of self, and a kind and well-adjusted personality.

January 24, 2004 - Msg 18799: Howdy to the Porch! Welcome to all the newcomers & a big hey to all the oldies. I haven't been here in a month of Sundays & the only thing I have to say for myself is "Dirty Me, Dirty Me, I'm disgusted with myself!" I have been so busy with the new job & the old job 400 miles away, sick puppies~my 16 year old Boston, Blarney gave me a big scare a couple of weeks ago, I thought I had lost her, seizures, not eating, & I was a basket case. Took her to the vet & he promptly informed me she's no spring chicken anymore but not in those words, my only answer was "I know she is 16, but fix her!" I know the time is closer now than it ever was, but that don't make it any easier. She is doing much better, eating like her old self & no more seizures. Thank goodness! I also have been working on a website for our shop The Pet Stop & we are expanding the business as well. So I don't mean to be gone so long, just hardly have time to sleep anymore. Irishter I am not Irish, but I married a first generation Irish/American & have learned alot about the Irish, have to, we have a son that is really interested in his heritage, so we keep up with the Irish traditions (on his daddy's side) & the Native American traditions (on his mama's side) I have alot of Cherokee in me. Anyways, now that I have run my mouth & messed up Hazel's fine sweeping job, I'll sign off & hit the bed for the night. Hugs & prayers to everyone!

That'd solve the problems in Iraq, Northern Ireland, and Palestine. January 25, 2004 - Msg 18813: Hi Porch, I just talked to some missionaries today whojust returned from iraq. They say 80% or better are glad we're there and really want the help. These are good people, so i believe what they're saying. They are very open to a bit of a Christian view and all the help of the missionaries. (they spoke at service today) As for the rest of em, another good lesson from TAGS would be like taking the spoiled kid to the "good old-fashioned" woodshed! (heehee)

A little about myself...I am a 34 yo stay at home mom to a darling 3 yo daughter - Evangelene Rose (nickname Evie - rhymes with Chevy). My hubby and I will celebrate our 13th anniversary on Ground Hogs Day. He is a 3rd yr Lineman Apprentice with the local utility. We live in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks.

My favorite episode is A Date For Gomer. My nickname comes from the episode, A Wife for Andy.

My hubby worked as a line clearance tree trimmer for 18 years (10 yrs contractor/8 yrs with the utility) before the utility phased out his dept and the 5 remaining journeyman trimmers had to move over into the line dept as apprentices. He is liking it pretty well - lots of things to learn but it will certainly pay off in the end.
