I was playing around with that Barney caricature a few days ago (the one on the main page of this site, and I had some fun. Of course, I didn't draw that fantastic pic of our illustrious deputy, and I hope I haven't done anything wrong by "borrowing" it. Anyway, hehehe....if anyone wants to see my modest "creation", just copy and paste this URL. The last time I put a link on here, it really messed things up.

Any Dick VanDyke show people here? I have a few on tape and over the weekend watched them.
The funniest is when Laura tells the nation that Alan is bald!
On local tv was the tags ep of Opie's friends and the hobo. Here's a good dialog from it I like:
Opie: Pa, are we rich?
Andy: Rich? You don't get rich being a sheriff.
Barn: Yeah, you get investigated if you do!
(Laughter all around)
You see Op, it isnt only the materialistic things of this world that makes a person rich. There's love and friendship; THAT can make a person rich.
Andy: I don't believe I've ever heard that said any better.

Sterling, I simply cannot understand anyone being so cold and cruel as to abuse a helpless animal. Anyone who will do that will eventually abuse a child or some other helpless person. The prisons are full of them. I believe God will have a special place for animal abusers and those who abuse people, and they will often be one and the same. The scripture says "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." Then don't you agree that the converse would also be true - "Without blessing are the unmerciful, for they shall not obtain mercy." I suppose you could say "Cursed are the cruel, for they shall obtain misery." That's the gospel according to Romeena.
About those reruns on TVLand. I wonder if it would do any good to ask them to run uncut shows, old commercials and all, and maybe run two episodes in a 90-minute segment? That way, they could get in all the ads they want to throw at us, but I'd be happy to sit through them in order to see an uncut show. Anybody agree?
Well, off to scratch up some supper. I think I've got enough leftovers to make a good meal, and I love leftovers. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Remember on Hee Haw when they asked Grandpa what's for supper? Yum Yum
Asa - congrats on your new furkid - like the rest - what did you name him? Probably Otis or even Gomer, I can see you now calling him to you - Otis, Otis, Otis and he is sleeping in his favorite cell snoring!
Well - no new assistant yet. . .I wish the director would make up her mind.
I heard an interesting comment this morning on the radio about seeing the good in bad people. . .Judas was not a good person and yet he was in the Lord's company. He was a thief and even being in the Lord's presence, his heart did not change and he still betrayed Jesus. But yet Jesus does not lie so there must have been something good in his heart for him to have been in Jesus' company. These are taken out of context a little because I can't remember it word for word but I just thought it was interesting. I would like to read the book by Max Lucado that they came out of - so even when you think people are not good - there must be some hope or some flicker of good in them. I say this because my special ed. director is not an easy person to deal with and I have been smiling all year and trying to maintain a positive att-itude.
Okay - I'll shut up for now -
Everyone have a great morning!!!

I can't do a link, but copy and paste that in your address bar, and the site will give you more info. I did note that it goes to 6th grade only. If I am not mistaken, I think your daughter is a bit older than that, but maybe they could steer you towards other resources!
auh20, I heard Mr. Dean on the news this morning, and I couldn't help but start laughing at him. I hope he isn't somebodies favorite candidate, but I do think he is a bit....intense!!
Homemaker, hang in there with your director, you may be a force for good in their life! You just never know what God has planned for certain people. Speaking of smiling by the way, I told one of my son's kindergarten buddies on the way into school this morning, that if he smiled outside today, it was so cold that the smile would freeze on his face all day. He tried real hard to wipe it off, but I was right, he couldn't stop smiling ;)!
Oh, and Bulbsnatcher...YAHOO! Good for you on the quit smoking thing, that is quite an accomplishment!

Good morning Folks,
homemaker, that's an interesting view about Judas. I always felt that Judas represented fallen man. I think his heart did change after the fact. He did return the money and said he did betray an innocent man before he hung himself. But, your right for Jesus to always know that Judas was would choose to betray him and yet Jesus always treated him as he treated all the other disciples is quite a tough lesson to follow at times. Good luck with the special ed. director. By the way, that was an excellent analogy I think. It's also 13 degrees here (western New York) our warmest temperature in 10 days although the wind chill is minus 4.

Oh friends, I went to a seminar put on by the weight loss clinic I am going to. It was good and surprisingly the food twanged my buds. But by far the best was a woman who does laughter therapy. I just know all my porch friends would love it. Just a couple of exercises we did, to get you giggling today. You stand across from somebody and as you are giving each other a high five, you miss slapping hands and instead give a loud HA! You can not help but laugh cause you feel kinda foolish. Another was that you pretend you are holding a tea cup. You pretend to sip and as you take the teacup back to the saucer you say tee hee, tee hee, tee hee! You feel so silly, but it does get you to laughing. After I had the fusion surgery last year, I was in pain alot and one thing that helped was to watch TAGS and just laugh myself silly. This woman said that it actually changes chemicals in you body when you laugh. Now we know why the good book says "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine."
Did anyone watch the Oprah where they showed the woman how to lower her stress by a breathing technique. I doctor showed us how to do that too.
On the ride home, I was stressed cause it was dark and slick on the road, but I did the breathing technique and it worked like a charm.
My education was worth every penny. LOL

Hey Homemaker, I am reading a Max Lucado book right now. I think its called Living In The Love Of God (or something to that effect) and the chapter I read last night talked about God's attribute of kindness. I thought about it when I was reading Ro's post about cruel folks. I guess the kinder a person is, the more Christ-like he is and the more cruel the person...well, that goes without saying. It IS pretty neat that even though Jesus knew that Judas would betray him, he still treated him well. The subject of Judas is an interesting one, isn't it? There is just so much that we don't know.
I have had a very stressful day today and could use any prayers ya'll send my way. Caring for my elderly mom is a difficult task along with caring for the kids. Since mom's stroke she has been very demanding. When we woke up this morning (I was staying at her house) there was smoke in the house so I had to get mom and the kids up and out of the house. Turns out the furnace had a problem and started smoking. I took mom and her 2 dogs to my sister's house and "called the man" about the furnace. In the mean time, I was trying to find someone to sit at mom's when "the man" came because I have to take my son to a dr's appointment (he's sick). So, my 2 year old was hanging on me and my son was crying and my mom was making demands! Then.....my 2 year old opened the door and let the dogs out into the front yard and they ran away. I managed to catch one but could not get the second. I am stressed out! Now I have to get ready to go to the dr! Remember me when you are relaxing this evening! heehee

I hope things go more smoothly for you. I will say a prayer for you right now!....
I am back! Boo, I know how hard it is, I have been in your shoes at times in the past. Things are a little calmer in my life right now. One trick I used to use was to do a job like washing the windows, (which you couldn't do around here right now, they would freeze!) and then, at least I would know the tops of the windows would stay clean for a few days. (With toddlers I tried not to look too low down the window!) Then, when I saw a sink full of dishes, or a totally destroyed child's bedroom, with toys scattered all over, or was being paged by mom, grandma, sister, needy friend, etc., I could look at the tops of my windows and see that I had accomplished some small task! You just have to realize that a clean house and an organized life are not the domain of a full-time, stay at home, volunteering, mother of young children! And I promise you, tonight, when I watch the Pistons go for their 14th straight win, which will be, (hopefully) a franchise record, I will think of you! (And then I will watch the game again!)
I am, everlastingly, a sports nut! (Can't help it!)

That's who history remembers people who stuck to their convictions and tried to do the right thing. Discussing religion can have the same effect with some people. I remember in a book I read about 20 years ago, "A Tramp for the Lord." The story is about the life story of Corrie Ten Boom. She was a Christian who's family hid a Jewish family during the Holocaust. She recalled all the times her father and the father of the Jewish family would debate religion. Both men were firm and proud in their beliefs and never spoke with animosity toward each other. Neither man was converted to the other beliefs but both men would come away better for their discussions. Well, to make a short story even longer that really stuck with me. I highly recommend the book (for what that's worth).
Ok, I'll shut up.

Speaking of tomatoes, I have always considered them a vegetable but I hear and read where some folks call them a fruit. Now I don't want to start no molauge but I just can't see a tomato as a fruit! What do you think they are? Lets settle this debate right here and right now! LOL
Hey Ro, my wife loves doing jig saw puzzles but she don't let me join her seeing how I always bring my hammer to the table to persuade them parts together. LOL I just don't have the the right stuff huh?

Howdy, friends! Thanks, Floyd, for removing that garbage before I even had a chance to stumble into it. I enjoy my computer so much, and I really resent it when somebody turns its use into a bad experience.
Asa, I think Barney is a perfectly wonderful name for your new little friend, and I love the bullet, the "rock" sign, and all the things you're doing. What a lucky little puppy, to have fallen into your loving hands.
AuH2O, we seem to think alike on several things. I thoroughly enjoyed "Barney Miller" - excellent writing, interesting characters (Abe Vigoda as "Fish" was wonderful), and I miss the show. Wish they'd put it back into reruns. I love fried green tomatoes, too! My aunt could make the best in the world. I have her recipe, but mine just don't turn out the same. As for W, I know he's not perfect, but he sure comes a lot closer than the womanizing scuzzball that preceded him. He isn't afraid to express his convictions, and probably comes about as close as any of us, to living up to them. If you factor in that he is privy to information that we are not, and is under pressures that we can't imagine, then I have to say he's doing a pretty good job.
About tomatoes - aren't they a berry? I was taught that they are. They do grow on a vine. Hmmm, does that mean that grapes are berries? I guess they are. Do we have a botanist in the house, who can clarify this for us?
Boo, bless your little heart. I wish I was close enough to come and help you out. You do indeed have your hands full. I was very fortunate in that when my dad reached the point that he couldn't manage alone, he was able to live in a very nice assisted living residence, where he was well-treated and happy. Still, it kept me very busy, visiting him, taking him to the store, running his errands, picking up prescriptions, taking him to church, explaining the same things over and over, assuring him that those were indeed his clothes hanging in his closet, whatever. It's hard. It's very hard. The role-switch that comes about is very difficult to accept. He's with his Lord and my mother now, and he's happy, I know, but I still miss him. I enjoy my leisure time, but I miss him.
Have a great evening, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Hi, folks! WKRP? Yep, another of my favorites. AuH2), you're right about Deitrich on "Barney Miller". He was really great. You just never could be really sure about him. He really had the others spooked a couple of times. And old Fish! Remember when someone warned him not to use rubber bands to hold his socks up because it could impair his circulation? His reply was, "Circulation? I have no circulation. Wherever my blood is, that's where it stays!" Back to "WKRP" - that was indeed a classic, and sometimes on weekends can be found on TVLand, in their "TVLand Kitschen" thing. I wish they'd bring all those old ones back. Here in the Dallas area, we don't even have a local channel to provide respite. We used to, but it went to all Spanish-language programming a couple of years back. Hablo un poquito de Espanol, pero no deseo ver programas en Espanol, prefiero mi favoritas, y en Ingles.
Goober, what charge did Barney pick him up on? Littering, probably! That's pretty funny.
Asa, my prescription for a howling puppy is to pick him up and put him in your bed. The Plum has never known sleeping anywhere but next to me, except when myu parents kept her for a few days. They made her a bed in an old hospital bath basin lined with a towel, and she slept right next to their bed. My mom made a lot of concessions in her ideas about how furkids should live, but taking one into the bed with her wasn't one of them! Sitting in a chair next to her at the table, yes. In her bed, no. Anyway, just put a thick, folded towel next to you, put Barney on it, and everyone should be able to sleep. Of course, you have to plan on this arrangement being for life, because once established, Barney is not about to allow it to change!
