I don't remember any of those, but as you can see, I ain't as good as most of you at rememberin' eps. I generally remember him with a plaid robe on. See if anyone else can remember and then give us the two eps. I'm curious. We're missin' some folks. May 29, 2003 - Msg 13963: Dearest TOM. I'm so sorry to hear of all the things that have happened. Your little heart must be just about broken. I wish I had a pretty poem or a prayer to put in here for you, like you do for us. We love you, TOM, and God loves you, too.

Boo, one ep that shows Andy in his boxers is when he was telling the story of Jack the Giant Killer to Otis in the jail cell. Remember, Otis kept calling Andy, and every time he'd come out to see what Otis wanted, he had taken off a bit more of his uniform. He finally sat in the rocker beside Otis, in his boxers, and told Otis the story. Another time was when he and Goober got Gomer a date with Thelma Lou's cousin, Mary Grace, and Aunt Bee was pressing Andy's pants just before they left. At some point, Barney announced to one and all that "Andy's got hot knees!" (Actually, his knees were kinda hot!) (teehee)

I'm trying to remember - when Gomer was their houseguest, and Andy got out of bed to see what all the racket was about, was he wearing PJ's or boxers? I'm not sure.

Well, I worked last night and have to work again tonight, so guess I'd better get a little sleep in between. You all have a great day. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Ro, there is one other episode that I recall Andy wearing shorts in and I saw it the other night. It was a color episode but for the life of me I can't remember which episode it was. I can just remember Andy trying to get his pants on for some reason and I was thinking, 'Good grief! Why are they always showin' Andy in his Boxers?'. Who know, maybe it was a dream.

I am still packing up stuff for the garage sale next weekend. What a chore!

May 29, 2003 - Msg 13968: Afternoon porch. I think the episode your thinking of Boo was when Warren thought he had esp and was trying to stop Andy and Helen from going out in the boat.
Sorry Tom about all whats going on with you. Your in my prayers.

Asa

May 29, 2003 - Msg 13969: No, no, no Asa. I'm sure the episode Boo is thinking of is the one where Aunt Bee watches the baby, and she crys everytime Aunt Bee holds her. Andy is trying to get some sleep, and he comes out in the hallway to tell Aunt Bee to hush up the baby and he is in his boxers. Aunt Bee says "Andy!!" and he quickly trys to cover up.

May 29, 2003 - Msg 13970: That's the one, Hazel! Now Asa, tell us more about the episode when Warren had ESP; why was Andy in his boxers in that episode? Anyway, I think it was kind of strange or that the writers of TAGS had a boxer short fetish or something. I don't remember seeing the star of any other sitcom in their underwear, repeatedly, Do ya'll? heehee

I feel for you, Charlotte. I am running out of places to put garage sale items but it sure has been fun getting rid of some junk. The only problem is I seem to have misplaced my husbands baseball that was signed by Micky Mantle (uh,oh). I did, however, find one in the closet that was signed by Ken Griffy, Jr., that he didn't even know he had. We have entirely too much stuff (but not for long)!

Boo

May 29, 2003 - Msg 13972: You are right Hazel. I'm thinking when Warren is at the diner with Goober and he keeps getting this feeling something bad is gonna happen. Then he realizes that what he is visioning is Andy and Helen on a boat at the lake the next day. So him and Goober run over to Andy's house (Andy is in bed I think) hooting and hollering and Andy is running around trying to get dressed, he even stubs his toe on a chair. I don't remeber if he was in his boxers or not but it seems like he might have been.
Boy Boo, I can't do no poetry. I'm inept when it comes to that. But you all will do a good job.

My wife's Mom came up from Indiana for Memorial Day, and her Dad came over from Hawaii, and they stayed all week, so I haven't been able to check the goings-on here at the porch with all the running around we've been doing. Things are sure to calm down though now that they've left. Thank Goodness!
No, we had fun.
Just thought I'd see how things were going here.
What's all this talk about Andy in his boxers? I can't really recall ever seeing him in his undershorts, but I guess I never really look in that direction while I watch the show! :)

I don't think I would call her a tomboy yet, though, as she still can be a bit prissy about getting dirt(or anything for that matter) on her hands. But she's getting better about that! June 01, 2003 - Msg 13999: Better late than never, I guess. I'm probably the only one on the porch, but I'll leave this message for morning, when everyone comes by. I just wanted to let you know how God has answered a prayer. You all know the situation I have with my dad, that he has Alzheimer's. Well, lately taking him to church has been a real adventure, and my brother and I have finally realized it just wasn't working. One problem is, he has become incontinent, and there are other problems as well.) It fell to me to tell Daddy that we couldn't take him anymore, and I was really dreading it. His weekly trip to church is the high point of his week. He generally gets dressed on Saturday, so he won't be late. I knew it would just crush him, just break his heart if he couldn't go, so I've been asking God to help with the problem. Well, yesterday I told Daddy on the phone that I wasn't going to be able to go, and that my brother couldn't either. I thought I'd just break into it gently, a week at a time. However, when I told him that, he just said, "Oh, okay", like it was no big deal. At that reaction, I thought I'd push it a bit further, and asked him if he thought it was getting too difficult to try to go, reminded him of how hard it is to get in and out of the car, how hot it will be this summer, all the negatives I could think of. His response? "Yep, that's right. I don't have to go, unless God won't like it." I assured him that God would understand, and it would be fine. "Oh, then I'll just stay here, if that's okay." So, there you are. God prepared his little heart and mind, and the problem was solved. So hard for us, so easy for God. Will I ever learn that?

Had another problem this morning. The Plum nabbed a bowl of cherry seeds when I went outside to move a sprinkler, and ate them all. Cherry seeds contain a tiny "nib" that contains trace amounts of cyanide, and enough of them could kill a small furkid like her. Long story short, a trip to the animal emergency clinic fixed the problem. They gave her H2O2 and charcoal, and she's fine, but if I hadn't realized she had eaten the seeds, she could have been gone within an hour or two. If she had swallowed the seeds whole, there would have been no threat, but she had crunched almost all of them, so the inner structure was exposed and would have been absorbed into her bloodstream. The bad thing is, this is not the first time I've let this happen. I can't believe I did it again, and poor little Sugarplum is the one who had to endure the treatment. All I had to endure was a drain on my bank account, and I deserved that. Maybe I'll just stop buying cherries, since I don't seem to be responsible enough to avoid leaving the seeds in her reach.

Well, good night, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Dirty me, dirty me! I'm disgusted with myself!

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14000: Oh, Romeena, I just sat here and cried when I read about your Dad. It hurts to think of him not going to church anymore. Sweet man. I pray that soon he will be worshipping God in God's very presence in heaven. God bless you for honoring your Father.

So sorry to hear about little Sugarplum! Hope she is feeling fine tomorrow. Don't be too hard on yourself .....

Goodnight,
Boo

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14001: She IS sweet, Boo! And thank you for the prayer. I second it!

Don't beat yourself up, Romeena! It's hard for anyone to think that cherries would be a danger to anyone, let alone know that Sugarplum would even like to eat the seeds!
And just remember that do..., er, furkids, have a tremendous capacity for forgiveness! All she wants is for you to love her. And we all know how much you do! And I'm sure she does too!

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14002:
I'm new to the porch, but I was wondering if I could have a set with ya'll?

Romeena, I read your message and it broke my heart. You know, once when I was at preachin', the man said, "God can turn a negative into a positive." I never knew anything about cherry seeds being dangerous. By sharing this unfortunate episode with us, you've helped out numerous people, today. I don't know if that helps. Romeena, I agree, don't beat yourself up over it, because you had no way of knowing. I wouldn't have thought cherry seeds could be dangerous, either. You hang in there. You're in my prayers.

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14004: Hi Boo,
I'm JimmytheGoat. It's nice to be here among ya'll. I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more...TAGS fans are the absolute best! I'm so glad I found the front porch.
What does it mean at the bottom, where it says, "let me know if the porch needs a sweep?"

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14005: Good morning, folks! Welcome, Jimmy, and what a neat name you've chosen. Boo, Jimmy and Sterling, you're very kind, but you see, I DID know! I've let this happen before, and I did know about the seeds. Still, when the timer rang for me to go move a sprinkler, I jumped up to do it without a thought for the paper towel full of seeds I was leaving on the table beside my chair. Observant, agile little Plum was watching me, and I'm sure had dived into those seeds before the door closed behind me. So, as I said, it's my fault and my sweet little furkid paid the price.

About those seeds, there's a warning here. Cherries are in the same family as peaches, according to Sugarplum's doctor. If you crack open a peach seed, you'll find a little structure in there that closely resembles an almond. In fact, my cousins and I, as children, thought they were almonds, and would eat them. (How do kids manage to grow up alive?) Anyway, those little "nibs" contain trace amounts of cyanide. Since it would be unusual for a kid to eat very many peaches at a time, we didn't eat but one or two "almonds" in a day, and I guess that's what saved us. The amount of cyanide is very small, too. Still, parents need to watch their kids and don't let them do the stupid thing my cousins and I did. Wonder what would happen if a kid stockpiled the "almonds" and ate a bunch at one time? Anyway, there is the same "nib" in cherry seeds, and when a great many seeds are eaten by one small furkid, they could be lethal.

Many unexpected things can be dangerous to our pets, not just those seeds. Chocolate can be harmful, as can onions if eaten regularly, or in large amounts. Also, never give a pet Ibuprofen. I was tempted to give my arthritic old C0ckerpoo some Advil, but her doctor said absolutely not. He recommended an enteric-coated low-dose aspirin instead. I'm sure by now everyone knows that pets are attracted to anti-freeze, which apparently has a sweet taste animals like, and it's lethal. Destroys their kidneys.

Well, that's my warning for today. I'm sure you can tell by the fact that I'm even here, that the Plum is fine, she's her old sassy little self today. Thanks for caring, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14006: You know, i remember cracking open those peach pits as a kid, too. I didn't like the taste of the "almond" but there was a bit of sweet juice inside the pit. You are right, there are alot of dangers out there for kids and furkids. I had heard about the antifreeze. You know, it seems like plums have the same little almond thing in the middle of their pits. Wonder if they are dangerous, too.

It sure is hot today. The kids from the neighborhood are all out on my back patio sitting in front of a box fan and it's only 11am. My water bill will be sky high because they have to play in the water everyday, too. Can hardly blame though for wanting to cool off.

Better go finish the chores. Again, welcome Jimmy the goat! Hope you will stay with us here in Mayberry.

Might I add, that had it not been for your quick thinking your dog is alive, and you've also helped the rest of us out with the information. So, chin up.

As far as interlopers go, it happens at another site I post at. After one episode, one of the other posters commented, "Isn't it amazing, how much courage people have when they know they can hide behind there pc." That is true. Thanks all, for the warm welcome. It's a pleasure to be here. I'm running down the corner for a pork chop sandwich, can I get anyone anything?

June 02, 2003 - Msg 14010: Thanks, Jimmy. You all make me feel better, and the Plum is just fine, stalking the mail slot at the moment. Just so you'll know, Jimmy - we don't use the d-- word, they're furkids. Very sensitive they are, too, that's why we avoid that word. The last time Sugarplum heard me say it, she thought I was getting her a puppy! (teehee)

Boo, just think. You're getting your lawn watered and the kids are having fun at the same time! Can't beat a deal like that. Around here, we are on outside watering restriction. Only a few times a week, after 6 pm. Since I leave for work at 6:30pm, that doesn't give me much time. I only get to water when I'm off work. I've been thinking of renting a couple of kids to play in the water in my yard! So far, they haven't restricted the recreational use of water.

Also, Boo, I think you're right about plum seeds. I think just about any of the single-seed fruits would have that little structure inside their seed. Peaches, apricots, plums, nectarines and cherries come to mind first. Anybody thinking of anything else?

Well, off I go. Lots of piddly little things to do today. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Once I got so hungry I ate dynamite. I don't remember much after that. I remember Mr.Andy and Mr. Barney cramming hay down my throat...and I think the Mayor wanted to shoot me. Can you get over that??? Talk about a bad day! Then they marched me out of town. My hooves ached for a week...but Barney does play a nice French harp though. I get tired thinking about it. I'm just gonna curl up here on the porch and take a nap... Romeena, don't forget your chocolate malt. Good night all, from the Jimmythegoat.

Ro glad you noticed that Plum got those, we need that little girl around here as much as you do! possum I didn't want to say anything until you mentioned it, I have done 'critter' CPR more than once in my line of work. Most recently, on baby guinea pigs, we had to deliver them C-Section & as little as they are I had to put their whole little heads in my mouth! Guess it takes all kinds don't it! LOL Another thing to remember if any of you all had 'feather-kids' like I do, avocado is lethal to them, so avocado, chocolate & onions go for the feathered ones too. Best get off to bed, got a new book today & can't wait to get started, I just discovered a wonderful mystery writer, Nevada Barr & her park ranger character, Anna Pigeon! Wonderful reading! A ROAD TRIP

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside
restaurant for lunch. They left the restaurant, after finishing their meal. The elderly woman left her glasses on the table, but she didn't miss them, until they were back on the road. By then, they had to travel quite a distance, before they could find a place to turn around.

The elderly and grouchy old man fussed and complained all the way back to the restaurant. He just wouldn't let up one minute. When they finally arrived at the restaurant, as the woman got out of the car to retrieve her glasses, the geezer yelled to her,............."While you're in there, you might as well get my hat!"

Thanks Asa for the welcome! Nice to meet you.

Now Ellen, I'm not sure I want my hooves done. I never saw Andy get his hooves done, so that might not be a good idea. Although I need a bit of a trim...I think I'll run down to Floyd's today.

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14040: Hey, Jimmy, great to see you here on the porch again! Hey to all the rest of my friends, too!

Just wanted to tell ya'll that we are getting our first Krispy Kreme here in Corpus Christi. Can you believe I have never had a Krispy Kreme doughnut? KK is big news here in South Texas.

Gotta go get ready. Hubby's dr's appointment is today he is supposed to get his CPAP (breathing machine for sleep apnea) today.

Wanted to tell ya'll that yesterday on Oprah, they had some home security experts on the show talking about how to make your home intruder-proof (especially for you single ladies). They had some very good tips and everything they used could be purchased at Home Depot. Look at Oprah's website and you can find all the info. Really, it is worth taking a look at. You know how sometimes you lay in bed at night and think a bout what you would do if someone broke into your home? Well, they tell you and they tell you the problem with home security systems. Look at it! (please).

Gotta run....my baby girl is looking at me with her crystal blue eyes...

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14041: Hey Boo,
My first flight instructor was from Texas, and he did spent some time in Corpus. Now my instructor was originally from Hemphill...where in Texas is that? When I was a kid we used to go to San Antonio for vacation. Had a great time. Always do down there. I miss the enchiladas and the people.
By the way-have any of ya'll ever heard that comedy bit Andy did, called Silhouettes? It's hilarious...I think it is anyway. All his comedy stuff is funny. Ya know, all jokes aside, Andy is a very, very intelligent man. He did other comedy skits about Romeo and Juilett, the opera, Carmen...now you cant make those skits up, unless you sat through them and understood them.
Anyway, I'm sure you can find some of Andy's comedy stuff at Weavers, or mayberrygifts.com. Somewhere. Check it out. It's almost noon. I'm heading down to the Snappy. Anyone want to go with me?

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14043: Hello all! Sorry I have been away so long. I have read some of the archives, I still have a little catching up to do, however.

Romeena, I was glad to hear how well your dad took the news about attending church. I was wondering if occasionally you could have a "visiting preacher" come and do church right there in his home. Might be kind of a treat once every month or two or something! I was also glad to hear Sugarplum made it through the "cherry-pit" episode. I guess she must have been thinking, "If life is just a bowl of cherries, why do I get the pits?!"

Welcome to Jimmy the Goat! I assume message 14041 was you! (Don't forget to sign your posts!)Sounds like the porch is even that much nicer now that we have you here!

I read where a few of you were having garage sales, I had one last weekend! Thursday and Friday were fine until about 3:30-4:00, then the rains came! Saturday was dreary all day! But all in all, I did manage to get rid of some gently used treasures! Now my hubby and I start the art-show circuit next weekend. We are looking at a very busy summer!

Charlotte, was it you who mentioned selling outdoor furniture? I would love to see what it looks like, who makes it? Any where us porchsters can see it? Maybe you could leave a few pieces on the porch so we can "try it out"!

Tom, I was sorry to hear about your father. May God be with you during your time of grieving. And then, you go and brighten up the porch with yet another one of your beautiful poems! Thanks, Tom!

God Bless every one here on the porch!

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14046: Wow, Hazel! The skins of oranges contain toxic substances? I hope you mean the outside of the skin and not the inside, otherwise I shouldn't be here. I used to love to eat that fleshy white part on the inside of orange peels. That was my favorite part of the orange! Anyone else do that?
-Sterling Holobyte

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14047: Mary Wiggins, Thanks for asking about our outdoor furniture. My husband builds PVC furniture from a furniture grade PVC pipe that won't yellow. The furniture is attractive and lasts forever! But he builds it all himself and it is both screwed and glued together for extra sturdiness so shipping is a problem. We are trying to deliver but that gets timely and costly too. My husband is thinking of trying to get some local retailers to carry it for him. If anyone has marketing suggestions locally, I'm all ears. Yuk Sterling, I hate that white stuff on oranges. I pick it all off!

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14052: Okay - this is sad. . .it is June 3 and I have a fire in the wood stove because the house is so damp and cold from the rain. Yuk!

FG - glad you are making your requests known. I am finished with IEP for the year and now I am in the process of packing 14 years worth of materials. Do you remember last year I told you about the family that didn't want their child to have his hearing aid because it made him look deaf? Well - that same family convinced the doctors to put in a cochlear which they aren't working with by the way and they want to send him to a special school in Cincy and have RideShare pick him up and drop him off daily. Can you imagine putting an 8 year old, mentally handciapped deaf child in Rideshare without a supervising adult? He has bus problems now because he can't keep his hands to himself and he screams at the top of his lungs when he doesn't get his way. Oh and they expect the school corporation to pay for this out of state school. But remember - he doesn't have any problems now that he has a cochlear. They make me crazy and I will not miss that family!

Jimmy - good to see you. Great name, great animal! Ask anyone - I am goat crazy!

I'll try to get on here more once I am off for the summer. Maybe I'll breakfast for all you early birds one morning.

If the weather warms up we need a picnic with badminton and croquet.
Any takers? I'll make baked beans and BANANA pudding!

June 03, 2003 - Msg 14053: All right, Ellen Brown! I think we'veheardjust aboutenoughaboutyourcoolweather! The rest of us are melting, you know. We've already hit 101 here in the Dallas area, at least twice so far. My flowers fall over and faint if I don't water them every single day, and that gets old real fast. So, what is my next project? Why, to put in another great big flowerbed, of course, so I'll have more to water. Now that makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

fungirl, I'm so glad to hear that your back pain has improved with your acupuncture treatments. That sounds so strange to us Westerners, but the orientals have been practicing it for centuries, so there has to be something to it. Nobody is going to lie around and let somebody stick pins in them if there isn't some benefit to it, for goodness' sake!

Mavis, you sure do give your all for those little critters in your care. Bless you for saving those little guinea pigs. I'd like to think I'd have done the same. Some sad news today - my grandson, the one who was in the Army, had a beautiful little Shiba Inu dog, and it was run over and killed a few days ago. Poor Toby, he was very shy, had likely been abused by a previous owner, but my grandson was getting him to come around and be much more friendly, and now this. We're all very sad. Such a lovely little dog. If you don't know what a Shiba Inu is, run an internet search and you'll find them. They look like they should be wearing a bow tie, very neat and prim-looking.

Mary Wiggins, thanks for the suggestion about the visiting preacher. Fortunately, the residence where my dad lives provides an informal worship service on Sunday afternoons for those who are able and wish to attend. The staff is good about helping anyone who wants to go, so he'll probably be doing that. Although, when I saw him today, he was pretty much out of it, took him a minute to recognize me, telling me some basically unintelligible story, just really not doing well. If his prayers are answered, he'll be with the Lord and my mother before too much longer.

Well, this grows too long. See you good folks in the morning. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Funny how the grass is always greener on the other side: I want cold weather and the cold folks want hot weather. Maybe we should all move out to California or something.

Sorry about your nephew's pup, Ro. I have a very soft heart for animals who have been mistreated in their lifetime. I inherited that from my mom "the animal rescue woman". Seems we were always picking up strays. I actually remember "stealing" an abused puppy from a neighbor and finding it a loving home. Mom can't bear to see anything suffer, bless her heart. We took in a big basset hound once that was found on the highway with a stab wound in his back. Can you imagine?! Found him a great home after he recovered. Problem was, while we had him he tried to fight with our Wire-haired Terrier and then our cat would jump into the middle of it to help the Terrier (what a mess).

Better go start the morning chores......I have enjoyed conversin' with all you fine folks on the porch today. Talk to you later...

ps--I kind of felt low because I didn't have a TAGS name like everybody else and then I remembered that I was in an episode of TAGS. Remember that one?? Gotta go...
