July 24, 2002 - Msg 8098: Happy Birthday dear Romeeeeena!

~ Mrs. Wiley

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8099: I declare, I think I'm gonna cry! (snif! snuffle! honk!) All those sweet birthday wishes, you folks make me feel all choked up with humbleness! Almost makes it worth being 63. Got a sweet card from the Plum, signed and everything. Her paw-writing sure does resemble my granddaughter's. Guess she must be the one who taught her to write. I had wondered who it was, or if she just picked it up. She's pretty smart, you know.
That party sounds like fun. Sugarplum and I will bring a freezer of peach ice cream, OK?
Well, gotta run. Have to take my dad to Sam's to buy more candy for him to pass around at the retirement residence. One of his main joys in life right now, that candy. Bless his little heart! --Romeena

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8100: "HEY" To ya'll .
Didn't get by for coffee this morning cause there was a break in the water line . The city water boys done a good job fixing it . Well got to go by Goober's to get the car's oil changed and have the tires rotated . Me and Joy is going to Tampa , gonna drive down during the night hours .
Will be eating Breakfast with the Seagulls by the Gulf ! See ya'll when we gets back !
-Stubby-

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8101: You really think so huh?...... Where is Rock anyway?

Hey Ro! If you bring the Peach Icecream I'll bring the sponge cake to go with it! And hey....while ya'll are passin' the candy how about tossin' some my way!

Stubby--You watch them strange people down there in South Florida. Sometimes us Panhandlers claim that they are a completely different state!

Had lunch and now are FULL. Time to Relax;-)

Miss Dixie

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8102: Hey Romeena...Wishing you the grandest of birthdays and a great year to match it. Let me know what time the picnic is and I will bring a bag of baby carrots for the Plumster. Bless her heart for thinking of you on your birthday and all. Well MDBE, I WISH that our Rock and WWE's Rock were one in the same. I can not wait for Smackdown on Thursday night. (At least it is on Thursday night here.) If you should see it, look for someone holding up a sign that says, "What ya gonna do BROTHER, when HULKAMANIA runs wild on you?" THAT WOULD BE US!!! I will be able to see all the awesome action all over again. I tell ya I don't know who was more excited, me or Little Opie. I screamed so much that you can hardly hear me talk today.

Well I need to go for now. Little Opie leaves on Saturday with Nana and Papaw for a tubing trip down the Current River in Van Burren, Missouri. And you know what they say about that state, Missouri loves company. I think Grover Cleavland said that, or was it Mark Twain? Then I am leaving for Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sunday, so I won't be around for about a week. I will miss you all, but maybe Tom and BDJ will be back when I return. I thing we might seriously want to drag the river. Maybe BDJ had drove off the Robert E. Lee natural bridge. Wonder if BDJ and RVD know each other, as they are both men who like to use their initials. (For those of you who are not versed in the ways of wrasslin' RVD is a little cutie named Rob Van Dam. He twangs the buds too!)
I'VESAIDJUSTABOUTENOUGTABOUTTHATBUDTWANGIN'. I'm gone, bye bye.

July 24, 2002 - Msg 8104: Stubby, be careful in Tampa - there are car muggings and break-in's going on in broad daylight. Also a string of fast-food roberies. Also Red tide in the gulf, but I think they have scooped up all the dead fishes from the beach.

Meanwhile, Tampa welcomes you and "happy motoring!"

I've taken some time off from work so maybe now I can catch up on all the news here at the porch . I've just plum tuckered my self out working none stop again. Now maybe I can finish remolding my trailer. I hope. You all Have a good evening and now that I'll be home more, maybe Aunt Bea can come over and post again, she uses my computer, but I've been to busy for her to catch me . she says HEY! to all.... July 24, 2002 - Msg 8108: Hey to everyone. Good to see the porch so full this afternoon. And guess what? I have arranged to have Carl Benson and the Wildcats band be at our party. Am I good or what?

Hope you have a good day, dear Romeena. You're special to us.

Still missin' AngeFan, around here. This is the week he's gone day and night. Heard from him Monday nite, but that's all. Never gone this long without seeing him, much less not hearin' from him. Miss him powerful bad. We'll pick him up tomorrow nite and go to the beach Friday. Don't know if I'll have time to check in. Ya'll keep my rocker warm. --Helen

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8111: Dear friends, I had a lovely birthday, thank you. Some local friends, known 'em nearly 30 years, took me out to dinner at our favorite fried catfish buffet. Yuummmy! They also have cold, boiled shrimp (big fat ones) and home-made french fries with the skins still on. And the best green tomato relish you ever flapped your lips over! Look out, blood sugar, here it comes!! I passed up the yeast-raised cinnamon rolls, though, so maybe it won't be too bad.
FunGirl, Sugarplum says she'll appreciate every one of those baby carrots, and will make sure you get an extra-large bowl of peach ice cream.
Everyone that's gonna be driving around the countryside, you be careful now, you hear?

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8113: Romeena - I am so sorry that I didn't get to post yesterday. . .so here goes "mememememtheythey. . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY " in my most operatic Mayberry voice. . .hope it was "plum spectacular!"
I spent most of yesterday trying to get reservations for us so we could take a weekend trip. Just about everything is booked up - we had to settle for smoking rooms just to get something. I don't mind people smoking but I prefer non-smoking rooms when I can get them. I may take a can of air neutralizer with me.
Now Miss Fun Girl - I think you had way too much fun at Smack-down! Maybe I'll see you in the weekend clips - we don't get Smackdown here. I hope you wore Red and Yellow if you carried a Hulkamania sign -LOL!
Oh Miss Romeena - my momma makes a cucumber relish that everyone just loves - my aunt from KY gave her the recipe and bless her heart, when she wrote the recipe there is a part where you let all juices stay together and you don't rinse. Well Aunt Chloe put on the recipe - "don't wrench it." So we call it the Wrench Relish. It would take 1st prize at any fair.

Well - I'll try to catch up with you all later -
Have a good day and Asa, be careful of the mustard.

July 25, 2002 - Msg 8119: Good afternoon - ham and beans sounds delish - a little hot for that but it still sounds good. We went to our sad poor little county fair last night. It is sad considering the one last week looked like the State Fair. Last week had nicer projects, nicer exhibits, nicer everything -oh well. . .We ate there and then I came home and made more supper for the hubby. So tonight I need to make a big supper for him. The Schwans man comes tonight (ice cream man) so the boys are getting their list ready for him. They like rainbow push ups and Sundae cones and as always, my husband needs his butter pecan! I just look and wish and think about forever on the hips.
MDB - you have fun there in Hotlanta! Be careful and catch a fly ball for the porch!

I think we need to put out an APB on Tom and Rock. What we have here is a case of missing persons. That's under section 304 dash 7,article 3, line 12. . .yessiree - a classic case of missing persons. I think we may have to deputize Floyd, Otis, and Gomer to help with this case. Asa has too many rusty bullets!

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8123: Hey MDBE don't go getting wild. You know what Patty Loveless says,
"When God fearing women get the blues,
Ain't no smack dab a tellin what they're gonna do.
Run around yellin,
I got a Mustang, it'll do 80.
I've stirred my last batch of gravy.
You don't have to call me baby. Be my, be my, be my baaaby."

That Lazer Light show up on Stone Mountain is sure a sight to behold. Maybe I will run down there during my vacation. I have not been since 1986. It was awesome then. I was born just 20 miles east of Atlanta in a little suburb called Covington, Georgia. We moved to Indiana when I was five, but I still have many good memories as we went there nearly every year on vacation.
Well I have rattled on enough. I have taken my medicine and am begining to have trouble typing, so I am gonna hit the ironing board. See ya in the morning.
Fun Girl

July 26, 2002 - Msg 8124: Fun Girl - it was Martina McBride who sang about God fearing women getting the blues. . .
I lived in LaGrange (GA) for a year - that's where I cut my teeth teaching hearing impaired children and learning how to make a teacher's salary stretch. I made a lot of good friends there - it was right down the road from Newnan (where Alan Jackson is from).

Well - there was a special "bored" meeting last night and the "bored" has decided to open up contract talks again with the teachers. The parents are getting wind of how upset the teachers are so maybe they will see the light before school officially begins. Unfortunately - the teacher's have lost respect for this set of "bored" members. Elections take place in November - could be some interesting changes.
I think I'll go back to bed for a couple of hours - got some laundry completed and my hubby's lunch made. Don't rattle the pans too loud and I'll make everyone scrambled eggs and ham when I re-awaken. And a bit of toast if you like.

Have a proud day ya'll.

Homemaker, I'd never known ya'll had lost respect for that "bored". LOL You'd never know it listening to you. Good luck with that whole thing. I know it has drug on for a while. I think you teachers should get together and make sammiche's for the "bored" and put some of that special mustard ypou was telling me about on it. That would learn em good.:)

You are right homemaker about Martina singing that song. I should know that, I even have the C.D.

Well I am off to get Little Opie's hair cut. He looks like one of those English Sheep Dogs. We aren't really picky about his hair, but the boy looks kinda scary. It may take a while to cut all that hair, so I think I'd best go for now. Have a good 'un.

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8134: Hi, Mary. This cyberporch, obviously, is occupied by fans of The Andy Griffith Show. We have created our own little Mayberry here, and have become almost like a big family, certainly like good neighbors. You'll notice that most of the signers use names associated with the show, but not all. If you'd like to create a handle for yourself and join us, we'd be glad to find you an empty rocker. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone is using "Mary Wiggins", so if you'd like to keep your first name, I don't see why that wouldn't work.
A suggestion - at the bottom of this page you'll find an "Archives" button. You might want to use that and scan back through some previous pages. It's a good way to catch up, like reading back issues of the newspaper in your new home town!
Ellen Brown, prayers for your brother and the others. Goodness, what a lot of sick folks! Sorta wears you out, doesn't it? We'll pray for your strength as well.

July 27, 2002 - Msg 8143: Evenin', all. Mary Wiggins, welcome aboard. You were just the cutest little thing when you were little, especially when your front teeth were missing!
Possum, honey, you have such a soft heart. These are indeed "perilous times", but praise the Lord, we know how it ends. We've read the Book! Meantime, we can all do our best to lighten each other's load.
This afternoon I was out moving sprinklers, sweating and grumbling about the heat, and it occurred to me that I should instead be thankful that I have access to water, and not just to drink, but enough to pour onto the ground as well, to keep my grass and flowers alive. Also, I'm thankful that I have the health and strength to get out there and sweat in that yard. (I passed "perspiring" on the fly in the first ten minutes.) Anyhow, things could be a lot worse, and I'm glad they aren't.
Prayers indeed for those whose concerns right now far exceed water, heat or perspiration. My heart goes out to them.

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8155: Good afternoon, all. I stayed up to watch all the miners get out alive. What a miracle! Then I had to get up early to watch the little ones at my church. If the outcome hadn't been as good as it was I would have had a much harder time dealing with the children. Praise God!! Remember when Barney "rescued" Andy and Miss Crump from the mine? I would love to have a friend that would go to such lengths to keep me from embarassing myself, (which I tend to do on a regular basis!) Well, I wish you all a GREAT day!
Mary Wiggins (the newbie)

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8156: Good afternoon, everybody! Just got back from church, and taking my dad out for lunch. Believe me, that can be an experience. The lunch, I mean. Today was a good day, though.
This heat is something else, and I've come to some definite conclusions. Way back after I sustained a badly sprained ankle, I happily agreed with my husband's edict that I abandon high-heeled shoes completely. (Never liked 'em in the first place, so "submission" came easy!) Well, flat heels often don't complement dresses too well, so have taken to wearing nice pantsuits, or slacks and a blouse in the summer, to church. I'm not the only one, so I don't feel too self-conscious. Back to my Dad, part of our problems at restaurants is his suit and tie and his efforts to keep them clean. Practically wraps himself in napkins. So, I've talked him into wearing slacks and a nice washable shirt. He's much more comfortable and at ease, and guess what? More and more men in his Sunday School class are doing the same thing!
I'm becoming convinced that we "church-goers" might find it easier to draw new folks in, if we didn't set such high dress-code standards. I don't mean showing up in tattered, dirty or immodest clothing, but we don't have to be in high heels and frills, or the men in coats and ties. It's not a fashion show, it's a worship experience. Well, there. I've said my piece. Sugarplum says hey!--Romeena

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8157: Hello Miss Romeena - I too wear nice dress slacks to church and the boys are definitely in wash and wear. Have you seen 4 and 5 year olds with glue and/or markers - WASHABLE is the word. When I was little, our church definitely believed in frills but having worked in an inner city mission, I just don't think God gets hung up about what's on the outside of the body, but more what's on the inside.
Oh yes - hey sugarplum - you sweet thang!

Our mini vacation was just that. My littlest one was so homesick that we came on back early. He is supposed to go to Florida in November with grandma and grandpa and if you ask him today, he doesn't care about Mickey Mouse, he wants to stay with his Mommy.

Well - it's almost time to pick up the critters from Vacation Bible School. They have a goat at their mascot this year. Ain't that a hoot!

July 28, 2002 - Msg 8158: Hey homemaker, if the mascot is a goat and that makes VBS a hoot, would that be considered a hootenanny?? Sorry I have been up way too long today. Happy Birthday to Possum!Don't let having another birthday get you down, hon. When you have as many as I've had, you get used to them. (teehee)
docmoore, your offer is generous, and tempting. I'm sure you'll understand our hesitation, however. Those of us who have all the eps went through at least a couple of years of sitting up at all hours, remote in hand, editing out commercials, watching schedules to see when that last elusive episode would be shown, etc. To hand them over to someone we really don't know is a difficult decision to make, and is not one we'd make lightly.
Do you have some qualifying credentials - were your people the Charlottesville Moores, by any chance? Did your aunt marry that man who fell down a lot? No, wait, that was the Tucker family. Just thought I'd pass along a prayer request that I received via email today. It seems that the N. Koreans and the Chinese governments are doing some heavy duty persecution of Christian missionairies in those areas. We should keep them in our prayers. It sounds awful. You can check out the website at gajo.org. Most of the prisoners are given a cup of muddy water and a piece of bread for daily supplement and at least 20 are crowded into a 9 x 9 cell.
