June 10, 2002 - Msg 7365: Once again Cancer has reared it's ugly head. One of Little Opie's best friend's father passed away this morning from pancreatic cancer. My poor son has had a hard time this year. Opie and Zac have spent almost every weekend and some week days together since school has been out either at their house or ours. They have been friends since kindergarten and they will soon be in sixth grade.
Prayers for the Carey family and what they are going through. Makes you want to hug your spouse extra tight and not let go.

June 11, 2002 - Msg 7381: Just a word of advice DB, you may want to get a special education endorsement along with your eled degree. Some school systems around here are requiring all new eled teachers to dual licensed in eled and spec. ed. Special Ed. is a very fast growing field. There are so many isms and syndromes out there - you could shake a stick with them and create a new one. Me - I stuck with hearing impaired kids but I also have a regular eled license.

Wow BDJ - the Little River Band - haven't heard that in quite awhile. Glad your vacation is going great! Glad also you took us with you:)

June 11, 2002 - Msg 7392: Mrs. Wiley, I'm curious about which episode you're speakin'. I will check later tonight to see what's on TV Land. Good luck with the summer classes, Dixie Belle. Lots of sad news here with all the cancers and all. We also have a male friend from our church who has cancer and not lots of hope. He is in early 40s with wife and two boys. We are all prayin' and he is still comin' to church. He has a bag attached that feeds him his chemo. Never seen nothin' quite like that. Prayers for all those fightin' cancer. Any good news from Utah, Asa? I never seem to get a chance to watch the news anymore. Had another sad deal with my little girl awhile ago. Went to pick her up at basketball camp and couldn't find her. Finally found that she'd been in the hall cryin' for 45 minutes because they paired up into partners. There were 21 kids and nobody paired up with her. The poor sweet little thing. She has so much trouble socializing. She's a beautiful sweet little girl and my heart just breaks when she gets left out. I wish I could teach her to be more assertive. Lord knows she doesn't take after me. I'm plenty assertive for the both of us. Prayers for my little Abbie everybody. It's gonna be a long haul gettin' her through school I'm afraid. Love to all you Porchsters and thanks for bein' here to listen to my little insignificant problems.

Possum is on summer vacation and should'nt even be up,but gotta go take care of Mama possum. Will you porchsters include her in your thought and prayers please? She goes in for spinal fusion surgery on Monday. She's the best Mama and has been in terrible pain.Sure hope this surgery helps her. Thanks.
On a lighter note,did anybody watch the tv show "American Idol" last night? People were auditioning as singers for a chance to go to Hollywood and become a superstar. Lots of talent,but LOTS of horrendous singing too! I kept thinking that Barney Fife ought to have been on there-he would've been much better than a bunch of 'em! METHEYMETHEYMETHEY.....

So much pain and sorrow in the world. Charlotte, I really hurt for lil Abbey...I was much the same. Ended up leaving school because I couldn't handle the emotional stress. Ever consider home schooling? Many here on the porch can attest to it! Maybe there's someone in your neighborhood doing it that she could attend there. She's got a hard road ahead of her, I know you're helping her all you can. I'll be sure and lift her up in prayer today.

Zac's family are doing well considering what they are going through. Just can't imagine it myself. Amanda, Zac's sister, is having the hardest time of it. She doesn't want to talk about it and wants to save all her tears for the funeral. Rough times ahead for her I am afraid.

The hubby is in Vegas with his brother and they are having a great time together. Dennis is 62 and my hubby is 45, so he is kinda like a father figure as well as a brother. Mike says he really reminds him of his dad. (the way he dresses and all) Mike really needed this vacation and I am glad that they are having a good time.

Well I am off to the grocery store. Gotta feed Little Opie and he is a growing boy and we know how they eat.

Sounds fun huh?

CT-- I used to be REALLY shy too. Then one day I realized that I had to start talking to people so they could get to know me so I in turn could get to know them then all the sudden I had friends :). Maybe things will soon get better for yer girl ... I hope so anyway and will remeber her in my prayers.

June 12, 2002 - Msg 7406: Howdy, friends! Been away for a few days, and about to be gone for quite a few more. There was an unexpected opening in the assisted-living section at my dad's retirement residence, and we jumped on it. Had almost no notice, but we got him moved. It wasn't easy, new apartment is much, much smaller and we had to find storage for excess furniture and "stuff". Emotionally rough, too, but he's being a very good sport about it. He's so precious.
Tomorrow he and I and Sugarplum will get on a big silver bird and fly away to Florida, to be there for 12 days, staying with my son and his sweet wife. It's like going to a resort. You old friends may remember when I've posted from there before. Beautiful home, on a private lake, lovely private dock that faces the sunset, orange blossoms, good food and wonderful family fellowship. How did I get so blessed??
Prayers for all who need them (they are legion), and I'll probably come and sit on the Florida end of the porch now and then while out there. Sugarplum says hey!--Romeena

Just like the little guy from school who gave me the penny run over by a train. I asked him if he
had ever watched the show and he said no but the boy standing behind him said, "Is that the show that's in black and white and has that skinny guy in the sherriff uniform." Yep, that's him and he can't sing a lick, not a lick.

Seems like a lot of the porchsters are in the field of education,from what I gather. Add possum to the list-I am a teacher's aide with special ed kids. I'm always using "Mayberry-isms" with them. My favorite would have to be when they are up to something devilish and I threaten to "NIP IT-NIP IT IN THE BUD!" Don't think they have an inkling about TAGS since they are little 4,5,and 6 year olds-but possum gets a kick outta it!
Hope everyone is having a nice Thursday-ossum is staying under the rock where it's nice & cool. Gonna be in the upper 90's here today-very hot and sticky.

We had a new driveway done in gravel so I gained more muscles raking and I also am still mucking out goat pens. A real stinky job especially in hot weather.
Glad to see everyone so lively on the porch - I think it is time for a big picnic to get everyone together. Okay - I volunteer to make pan fried chicken and baked beans. Now who else is going to pitch in???? I could bring goat BBQ - it is deleeesh:)

Well - the laundry is almost dry. That means I can almost go to bed.

21 years Charlotte, way to go. Bet it seems like yesterday when you said you did. :) To answer your question about the milkman, he spotted a car in the area on the morning in question. They have been looking for him ever since. He has stolen liscence plates twice now since then and put them on his car which tells me he is up to no good. As far as a family member being involved, I think that is the press doing what it does best, speculating. The father has been given a polygraph test, but it is my understanding that is S.O.P. in cases like this. Hope she is found soon.
Thanks for all your ideas for my hiccups. Perhaps I should just quit eatin like a pig and then I wouldn't get them in the first place. Lord knows I don't need to gain no 5 pounds.

I watched 5 hrs of the Conf. of Catholic Bishops yesterday. It's a shame that this problem was not dealt with sooner. Looks like when it's all said and done it will be a smaller, but Holier Church. My doc cancelled my checkup today. 3 ladies decided to go into labor at the same time. He's booked solid all this week, and is on vacation the following week. So you know what that means...an extra week off of work!!
