Hey everybody! Hope everybody's had a good Sunday.
Had a sick young un' so I stayed in all day. Send him off to sleep on a battleship, ate bad eggs, came home and soon got sick. Wonder what causes that? Welcome Mrs. Wezee, you'll like it here. Mavis, I know about adventure sleepin' with those critters! I tell you, you can't move! Was that the Primitive quartet you were talkin' about? That's one of our favorites if it's the same people. Especially, my son's. He love bluegrass. Get some rest Asa, you deserve it. I'm sure it'll calm down soon around there. Around here it'll be wild. I'll have my niece's (3&1) most of the week.
:) Mr. Schwump, I'm sure if I knew more about NASCAR, I would like it better too. I like the last lap. I would like to know more about the stratagy of it. Ya'll have a good nite, come on over for sausage biscuits in the mornin'. --Helen

February 17, 2002 - Msg 5113:
How do, friends! Yep, it's me, back home after my surgery. All went well, still got a trail of staples, looks like a zipper, and a vacuum drain that stays in until Friday. Bein' a nurse myself, I was able to come home a little sooner than other folks, because I can take care of drains and things. Not a problem. I'm feeling just fine, tired but relatively little pain. I read back over the past few days, and you were all so kind, askin' about me, and prayin' for me and all. Sure do appreciate it.
My daughter-in-law's sister is doing better. They moved her to Zale-Lipshy, which is a teaching hospital in Dallas, and right away they started a different treatment and she's already improving. Can move her feet some now, and the docs say there's a good chance of total recovery. Thank the Lord, and thank all of you for your prayers.
Helen, that breakfast sounds good. If I put Sugarplum's little backpack on her and send her over, would you send me a couple of those sausage biscuits? Be sure to zip that backpack good, though, or she'll sample them on the way home.
Asa, I'm glad things are lightening up for you a little bit. Remember, this too shall pass! Mrs. Wezee, you're most welcome here, and you're gonna love it, just LOVE it! Mavis, I wish I could get the Plum to you. She needs a bath, and I'm not sure I'm up to it just yet. Make that "I'm sure I'm not up to it". Oh, well, at least Maltese don't get that "doggie" smell. Wonder what causes that?
Have a great Monday, enjoy the day off for those who have it, and those who have to work, just slow down and take it easy!--Romeena

Hi there, Porch pals. How is everyone? Hope everybody enjoyed a good weekend. I got me some spaghetti and meatballs on the stove, so can't catch up right now. Prayers for all who need 'em, though. I'll catch up after dinner.
Was thinking about Dale Earnhardt today... it was a year ago today that I was sick as a dog on the couch when I saw the wreck and then heard the news. It was so surreal that I thought all the medication was playing tricks on me, but alas, it was true. God bless you, D.E.
We had a great weekend. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we were treated to free V.I.P. passes to the welterweight championship fights in San Antonio on Saturday (we were live on Showtime -- did you see me wavin' at y'all?). Afterward we went down on the Riverwalk and ate Chinese food and walked around, taking in the sites. Yesterday we worked in the yard, getting our gardens ready for planting.
Sadly, my friends in Tulsa have not heard anything about their little dog. Breaks my heart. Who'd steal a person's pet? That's just the lowest. There sure are some evil people in this world. Thank you all for the kind words and good thoughts for my friends. She might turn up yet.
Would also like to add, R.I.P., Howard K. Smith.

I waited for the sunshine,
the clouds were dark and gray,
prayed that God would hear me
and cast me not away.
it seemed as if forever
i cried to him in vain,
then it happened, oh, so quickly,
came the best and greatest change.
it wasn't what i asked for
in my selfish soul-torn way
but much better than i hoped for
all my fears he did allay.
so my friend do not be anxious,
he will answer in his time
and send blessings by the millions,
you alone could never find.

Sweet Jesus, just hear that boy! Tom, that's your best poem yet. What depths of truth, and so beautifully expressed. Thank you, friend.
Mercy me, I'm just so humbled by all of your sweet words to welcome me back. It's nice to be missed. As for "first lady", I'd never be able to accept such an honor. There are too many here more deserving than I. Just to be known as a Mayberry Lady is quite enough.
In all honesty, this wasn't just a "little" surgery, but compared to a really BIG surgery (you know, a BIG one), like a bypass or something, it's relatively small. Two procedures at the same time, actually. Let's just say that gallstones will no longer be a problem, and the rest I'd better just whisper to the girls some other time.
Helen, I'm glad your little "sprout" is improving. The Plum got home with the biscuits. One was a bit tattered and she had sausage breath, but that's okay, I share with her all the time. *Mavis, thanks for the offer. I did manage to comb her out this afternoon, she'll hold a few more days until I'm feeling better. I just couldn't bear to send you another dirty puppy.
Had a wonderful meal tonight - homemade veggie soup and cornbread - brought over by a church friend of nearly 30 years. You know the kind of friend I mean - never asks anything, but always gives. Makes good soup, too! She's not a TAGS fan, but she should be. She has all the qualifications.
Well, this grows long, and I grow dizzy! Back to bed, I guess. Welcome to all newcomers, greetings to all old friends. Tomorrow is another day.--Romeena

Miss Ellie helped me pick that name since my real nickname since I was 3 years old has been Hardrock. The nickname is a long story and I'll have to tell it to you some time. Well at the Bulletin Board someone else had already registered as "The Rock" so I registered as "Here at the Rock". Well I was just at The Cutless and the other "The Rock" had signed the guest book. My question is: To avoid cunfusion do I need to start signing my post here as "Here at the Rock " or just keep my old "The Rock". My fate is in your hands

Remember him saying Here at the Rock...etc..etc. I'm new hwe on the porch so I'll let you converse with the others on this, I just wanted you to know I too saw that at the cutlass... I like...
..Here at the Rock. I think it sounds Mayberrian But my name has nothing Mayberrian about it. But thats my name I feel a little out of place but after all I am new in the neighborhood and I hope every one is ok with my name and that I don't have to run into what you have. Rock, since the other Rock doesn't post here, I don't know why you should have to change your name, but what do I know. I'll defer to the others since I don't get to post too often.
Did any of you see Hank Williams, Jr. and Kid Rock together on CMT the other night? I'm not much of a country music or Kid Rock fan, but Mr. Tilley loves Kid Rock, so I recorded it for him. I think Mr. Tilley is going through a mid-life thing. hahaha I watched it with him the next day and it was actually pretty good. Sure seemed like a strange pair to put together.

Evenin', all! Asa, to answer your question, my day was exceptional, to put it mildly. I'm gonna be a bit blunt here, friends, so forgive me. 22 years ago I had a mastectomy for cancer. I had many, many positive lymph nodes and was given about a 40% chance of 5-yr survival. Yet here I am. Now, the "other" part of my double surgery last Friday, that I said I'd whisper to the girls, was to have the second mastectomy. It was my choice, for several reasons. Balance, freedom from prosthetics which put a draggy weight on one's shoulder, potential new cancer, whatever. Anyway, it was strictly an option and required some very creative talking on the part of my surgeon's staff to get my insurance to approve it, because I had just had a clean mammogram. Well, guess what. Today the surgeon's office called and said the routine microscopic exam of the tissue that was removed showed "several" areas of pre-cancerous cells! No true cancer yet, but it was a matter of time. Now, I ask you. Does our Lord work behind the scenes on our behalf, or what? That surgery was strictly an option, following what I thought was just a notion on my part. Now I know it was not just a notion, it was the leading of God. I seriously considered cancelling that part of the surgery, as late as the night before it was done, but just felt like I'd come that far, I should go through with it. I can only say, "I stand amazed in His presence." Peace, friends.--Romeena

It is a mild day with rain here in Indiana - the weatherman said it was a typical May day with a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. FG - are things crazy at your school too? Maybe it is the construction here? Also - when do you do your IEP? Let me know if you need any suggestions.
Well - I'll stop rattling! Mavis we may head your way this summer on our way to North Carolina. . .

Howdy, friends! Thank you all for the kind words of support. Our God is indeed a great God, faithful and true, and able to bring about the very best in our lives if we'll let Him lead. I'll know on Friday if any more surgery or other treatment is needed. I trust my Lord, I trust my surgeon, so whatever is indicated, I'll do. I think there's a good chance that nothing more will be needed, but we'll see.
Asa, I keep watching for you at those Olympics, but haven't spotted you yet. Maybe Andy would loan you the squad car, and you could cruise around in that. You'd be more noticeable, and besides, it doesn't hurt to let some folks rest their eyes on a sheriff's badge now and then - the one on the car door would do nicely. Might help you to keep order!
Would someone tell me how an 8-lb puppy can have a 40-lb foot? When The Plum stepped in the middle of me last night, I thought she was an elephant! She didn't mean to hurt me, and has apologized many times, poor baby. No harm done, of course, and she's been extra-cuddly, so it was worth it, actually.
Well, here I go, to curl up in my big chair with some good iced tea and some left-over homemade soup. Yum. Good soup is always even better in a day or two. Wonder what causes that??
Have a great Thursday, friends!--Romeena

Rock you was here first so you don't go worrying yerself none, besides, my brain is all fuzzed up with 20 years worth of dog hair & trying to remember you was "the porchster formerly known as the Rock" I'd had a headache! Almost forgot a great TAGS quote story I have. The other night when I went to see the Primitives, me & my aunt were looking at the tapes they had for sale, well one of them was all their acapella songs & the first thing that came to my mind was Barney, so I ask my aunt "remember Barney? Acapella, acapella...." one of the Primitives turns to me & says, "I can't remember how the rest of it goes" I just about died laughing! I wasn't expecting that! But it made my night! I'll hush now.

February 20, 2002 - Msg 5189:
Hey, friends. New Neighbor, I feel for ya, hon. I raised four, and never did they all get sick at the same time. Nope, always one, then another one, etc. One night at work another experienced nurse/mom and I were working together discharging a young couple and their new baby. They were so proud and excited, and the new dad looked lovingly at the new mom and said, "I just can't wait to get my little family home and settled in." She replied, "I know. It will be so nice to just get all cuddled up together and get some rest." Well, my friend and I looked at each other, fought down the hysterical laughter that was rising in our throats, and I said to her, "Let's don't tell them." She answered, "No, let's just let it be a surprise." --Romeena

I waited for the sunshine,
the clouds were dark and gray,
prayed that God would hear me
and cast me not away.
I cried to him in vain,
then itb happened, oh so quickly,
came the best and greatest change.
it wasn't what i asked for
in my selfish soul-torn way,
but much better than i hoped for
so my friend do not be anxious,
he will answer in his time
and send blessings by the millions,
you alone could never find.

Mornin porch. Homemaker, Mrs Rock was born in Somerset but grew up in Danville. Besides East Tennessee not many places purttier than the horse country of Kenyucky. Mavis loved your story. Just goes to show TAGS fans are everywhere. Romeena your are right about raising kids. I don't know how my parents did it. If it had not been for the Laz-E-Boy recliner and cable TV those all nighters with them would have been a lot tuffer. Asa and Mr Schwump, I heard a good line the other day about golf. Joking with a friend of mine after he had moved his ball out of a divot, I told him that would cost him a stroke. He immediately told me ;" I don't play golf like Tiger Woods so I'll be danged if I play by his rules." Salty Dog noticed there was no coffee made to day. That's OK hun I'll put on a pot and tell everybody you did it.
Come to the decission, after reading everybody's opinion, that I will continue to post as "The Rock". That way if I do something stupid I can always blame it on the other one.
