Maybe if i keep playing with them and taking lessons from them I can be in the 90's. The weather is great here in East Tennessee and I sure do hate it. The English language must be the most frustrating language in the world to learn, for someone coming from a language like Spanish, which is totally phonetic and almost devoid of multiple definitions. How many ways can you think of to pronounce "ough". #19033 touched on some of them, but there are others. And how about this: "We'll eat our dessert in the desert, unless we desert first." There are many more ridiculous things like that in English, such as our wacky plurals. You know - one goose, two geese. One house, two houses. One moose, two moose. Why not two mooses or two meese? One mouse, two mice. One house, two houses, why not two hice? Oh, this is endless! It can give you a brain sprain. --Romeena

Those are pretty funny. I never knew so many people could not spell
until I began entertaining myself on the Internet. You do know that
the English language is one of the most difficult languages to
learn. I pride myself on my spelling but I too found out that I was
making mistakes that I had been making for years. Being on the Internet
has improved my skills. I get very impatient with those who can not
spell or don't even try to learn how to do it correctly. I can't do a
lot of things that others can with their eyes closed. So, I am trying
to learn to be tolerant. I call it the homonym terminal illness and
there are many with it. So let's all be patient like Andy would.

One of my daughters is an English teacher, and a self-admitted poor speller. She keeps a dictionary on her desk, uses her spell-checker when she writes on the computer, and still mistakes get through. She's pretty ingenious, though. She tells her classes that she will occasionally put in a misspelled word, on the board, in a handout, whatever. The first student to spot it and tell her will get an extra point added to a test grade. Thus, she avoids embarrassment, and makes the kids spelling-conscious at the same time. This is the same teacher/daughter who uses Andy's Shakespearean tales to introduce her classes to the works of the bard. They never find Shakespeare boring after that.--Romeena

Spelling has always come easy for me, probably because I read a lot, and am also a very visual learner, so when I read a written word, the spelling just imprints itself in my mind. I can spell words that I can't imagine where, why or how I learned them. I've also been accused of being rather, shall we say, verbose? However, a math problem can send me into a tailspin. If it you can call it arithmetic, I can probably do it. If it deserves the designation of "mathematics", then I'll crash and burn. I have a friend who can barely spell his own name, but is a computer whiz and can do very complicated math problems in his head. Go figure! (No pun intended.)
I guess it just goes to prove that we all have our niche in life. What would Mayberry have done without Gomer? Remember the traffic jam at Andy's when Wally fired Gomer? I think of the young, mentally-retarded man who so capably handles a lot of the environmental-service work at our hospital. He can barely write his name, and I'm quite sure he can't spell or punctuate properly, but he knows his job and does it well. Pushing a trash cart may not look too important, but if he wasn't there for a week, we'd be up to our misplaced apostrophes in trash. We all have different abilities, thank the Lord, and as the Bible points out, where would one member of the body be without the other? It's just one glorious mixture of talents, abilities, skills and interests, and when each part does its best, it works beautifully! Now that's not to say that we shouldn't try to improve ourselves. I'm not proud of my poor math skills, and should try to improve, but I probably won't. So, you poor spellers out there, I'll forgive you if you'll forgive me, okay?--Romeena

They haven't called us yet and told us when or where we need to go at Duke but I will let you know when I find out. I don't even know what they plan to do the first day. From the way the doctor here talked he is turning her completely over to the specialist there and I would think it would be up to them as to what they do first. I just know I am really scared about the whole situation and I have my Dad and am concerned about him too because he has to go back next week to have a procedure done to see if his bleeding ulcers are healed inside him and this requires a day at outpatient surgery. But I know everything will be for the best.I will let you know when I find out the date. pinkcloud

Please read this through carefully. It could save your life.
Let's say its 6:15 p.m. and you're driving home. You're really upset and the more you
think about it the more uptight you become. All of a sudden you start experiencing severe
pain in your chest that starts to radiate out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are
only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home; unfortunately you don't know if
you'll be able to make it that far. What can you do? You've been trained in CPR but the
guy that taught the course neglected to tell you how to perform it on yourself.
Many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack. What can you do? Without help,
a person whose heart stops beating properly begins to feel faint and has about 10
seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by
coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each
cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let up until help
arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into
the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The
squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm.
In this way, heart attack victims can get to a phone and, between breaths, call for help.

*With 17,500,000, I'd give the rest to my wife, 16,500,000
*Buy me a Harley, and grow a beard, buy a new Zebco (my last one was stolen from our lakehouse), and maybe buy a new T-Shirt while I'm at it.
